BSC 120 Glucose Effect on Diabetic and Non Diabetic Blood Abstract: This lab was developed to investigate blood glucose and diabetes. Diabetes is a lifelong chronic disease in which there are high levels of sugar in the blood (Diabetes). The spectrophotometer was applied to this lab to determine the absorbance of blood glucose in diabetic and non-diabetic blood samples. In order to prove this, tests were conducted by taking the blood samples at different times right before a meal was eaten then 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes after the meal. The 6 test tubes had been placed in the spectrophotometer to measure the absorbance of blood glucose in the diabetic and non-diabetic blood. Tube 1 measured 0 minutes right before consuming a meal. Tube 2, 30 minutes, tube 3, 60 minutes, tube 4, 90 minutes, tube 5, 120 minutes and tube 5 that contained water used to zero the spectrophotometer because our solutions are dissolved in water. Each test tube was placed in the Spectrophotometer to measure the glucose absorbance. When finding the absorbance the water will already have been subtracted from the total absorbance of each sample, allowing for a reading of just the absorbance alone. The data results were then averaged among the class and Microsoft Excel was used to formulate the line graph presented in the results section. Results: According to Table 7.1 for the non-diabetic blood glucose sample measured in tube one .012, tube two .138, tube three 38, tube four .15 and tube five .06. For the diabetic blood glucose sample measured in tube one .16, tube two .71, tube three 1.5, tube four 1.05 and tube five .69. Line Graph: Part C Table 7.1.
