In Hesse, Germany several cows suddenly died after they were fed Syngenta’s genetically engineered maize cow food. As a result of this incident authorities were forced to slaughter the rest of the cattle to avert having this cryptic disease contaminating other cattle houses. What if I told you that the same protein used in the cattle’s feed was also used for human genetically engineered foods? Of course after Syngenta’s cover-up of the dead cattle was exploited, they promptly removed the protein from human genetically engineered foods.
So the question is, what other harmful GMOs are in our food today? Without proper research this question is impossible to answer. So let’s start with an easy question, what is a gmo? “Genetically modified organisms are living organisms whose genetic material has been artificially manipulated in a laboratory through genetic engineering. This creates combinations of plant, animal, bacteria, and virus genes that do not occur in nature or through traditional cross breeding methods.” In layman's terms, gmos are basically unnatural foods that scientists have created in a laboratory somewhere.
That fact alone should be unnerving enough, but

However, studies haven’t shown they are safe to eat. Many scientists are concerned that by eating GMOs, they may pass their mutant genes to the bacteria in our digestive systems. We have no clue how these new strains of bacteria may affect our body system’s balance. Concerns are that there can be allergic reactions; and other effects such as toxicity, organ damage, and gene transfer. A major worry is that GMOs may cause antibiotic resistance. Antibiotic genes are placed within the DNA of crops to make them more resilient. The use of GMOs could be a contributing factor in “super bacteria,” like MRSA. Sadly there is no national-level requirement for food with GMOs to be labelled. GMOs can be placed into products and we wouldn’t even know
Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO) is currently one of the biggest controversial topics in the United States. Some people believe GMOs is an incredible discovery because it allows farmers to mass-produce while saving millions. Other Americans believe that GMOs are toxic chemicals and the leading cause for diseases. The disgusting side effects of GMOs hits home for me. Amanda Krysa, a family friend and vegan for fifteen years was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer at the young age of twenty-eight. Amanda’s doctors have speculated that the GMOs in the soy products caused her cancer. U.S.-grown soy products are injected with GMOs. This is done in an attempt to help produce mass quantities of soybeans as well as to help make the foods last longer. Ultimately, however GMOs are hurting us. Ironically, Amanda began a vegan diet in order to live a healthy and long life, yet it’s possible that the GMOs she ate in order to meet her protein needs
Advancements in technology have boosted our abilities to travel. It is now normal to travel large distances when before most people would have never left their home state or town. Now because of globalization we have billions of people traveling every year to different parts of the world twentyfour seven. This huge and drastic change in lifestyle is what gives globalization its edge, it has allowed boundaries to be crossed when before they were no physical ways to travel large distances. This has helped create the very integrated societies of today. One downfall is that where people roam so do their illnesses, stager in behind them.
As said before, GMOs are genetically modified organisms, and can be dangerous, so experts say. They say that the GMO process causes diseases such as cancer or diabetes, and some also say that GM foods can cause allergic reactions. They are saying this because, as they have discovered, some companies have mixed protein from nuts and inserted into beans, which can be harmful
Genetically modified foods are altered so that there are genes within them which are not normally found in their organic counterpart. These crops have benefits such as reducing the need to use pesticides which differ from normal organic crops which highly depend on them. For example, a GMO's called BT-Corn has built in bacteria called Bacillus Thuringeinsis (BT) which produces a crystal protein that acts as a pesticide within the crop's cells. The protein is selective and is toxic to harmful pests but to many beneficial species such as bees and butterflies, are harmless. When the protein is produced, as soon as a pest ingests a sector of the plant containing it, the pest will die within hours.
Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), have turned into an exceptionally questionable theme here in our reality today. GMOs are life forms that have been developed through a quality joining methodologies of biotechnology or genetics building. This is a moderately new type of science which permits DNA from an individual species to be injected into another species in a research center. This produces blends of plant, creature, microscopic organisms, and viral qualities that don 't show up in conventional crossbreeding systems or found in nature. GMO’s have been liked to several health-related issues, and should be banned by the FDA (Genetically Modified Organisms, N.D. ).
The American Academy Of Environmental Medicine have found out, Gmos also cause organ damage, gastrointestinal and immune system disorders. They also discovered the GMOs leave material behind that leads to long terms problems
GMOs have a positive impact on humans and keep us very healthy. GMOs can help you by giving different types of nutritions. GMOs can also help food sustain more longer than non GMOs while growing crops. With this being said, GMOs can possibly change our lives around. People have been consuming food containing GMOs for a good 100 years now. It wouldn't make sense if people stopped eat the foods that were genetically modified instead of being natural. Though in reality, GMOs are more positive than being negative.
According to a survey done in 2015, “Nearly 9 out of 10 scientists from the American Association for the Advancement of Science say GMOs are "generally safe" to eat. Though if you're like more than half of U.S. adults from the general public in that same survey, you think you probably shouldn't eat them” (Siegel and Verity). There are many reasons people believe they should not be consuming GMO’s from them, having too many chemicals used on them when they are grown, to them not being “organic” and genetically altered, or not being as healthy as non-genetically modified organisms. But those beliefs are not true. GMO’s are still the same plant but with one or two added or deleted genes to make them fit the profile scientists are looking for. Thus, making them still have all of the nutrience they started with if not
Undoubtedly, GMOś are unhealthy and are bad for our health. The farmers contaminate their crops with pesticides and many more harmful substance.
One of the greatest accomplishments since 1982 is the invention of GMOs. They were first approved by the FDA in 1982 for Humulin, insulin that has genetically engineered E. coli bacteria. The thinking behind GMOs was to develop crops that were resistant to pests and diseases in addition to improve nutritional content. GMOs have helped numerous people around the world. They have made farmer’s crops have better yields and a more successful growing season. GMOs are beneficial and should be promoted because they are more economical and they increase productivity in agriculture; however, the opposition believes GMOs potentially cause health issues.
While these are valid concerns, they are entirely wrong. According to the World Health Organization in 2005, “GM foods currently traded on the international market have passed risk assessments in several countries and are not likely to present risks for human health” (Novella). Many of those who are anti-GMO claim that GMOs are not safe because they do not know enough about them or they have heard far too many conflicting reports. While there are many reports that claim that GMOs are detrimental to the environment, the three agencies that oversee GM crops, the FDA, USDA, and EDA, have ruled that these crops do not pose any real threat. Since the beginning of the GM crop in 1996, there have been 2,497 approvals of the safety of GMOs in the environment and 1,129 of these approvals have been for the food safety of the products (Monsanto). This further disproves the claim that GMOs are unsafe for humans and the environment and reassures that there is no risk involved in either the consumption or the planting of GM
A strong reason as to why people should stop eating genetically modified foods is because they have never been tested. The people testing the foods are the same people as the everyday consumer buying a pack of Doritos® at 7-Eleven® without knowing what may happen. GMOs have unknown possibilities this means anything can happen to the consumer. A credible author writes, “Foreign genetic material in a host can cause other genetic material in that host to behave erratically. Genes can be suppressed or overexpressed, causing a wide variety of results. One consequence of overexpression, for example, can be cancer.” (care2.com) CANCER. Is food
The taking in of GMOs is destructive because of the unexpected effects, resistance to antibiotics, and the deleteriousness of the pesticides. When ordering or buying food at a restaurant or store, it is important to remember the harm that GMOs cause. The harm that is caused is not worth it. Change the eating lifestyle for a healthier
Genetically Modified Foods (GMOs) are known to cause a swarm of controversy; a lot of experts disagree with the notion that if it’s economically successful, then the potential health risks found in Genetically Modified Foods can be overlooked.
For the most part GMO’s give a great threat to the health of humans. Allergies For one, by taking a gene from one organism, then inserting it into another can lead to people having serious allergic reactions. For example, if someone is allergic to shrimp and scientist takes the gene that makes that person allergic and implanting it into a banana, some one can get really sick from eating genetically modified bananas. The risk is way too high due to the unknown outcomes and possible reactions people's bodies might give to it. To add some statistics, there are 60 countries that have banned the sale and production of the GMOS. On the contrary the U.S approved
