Goal setting is the process of writing down specific, measurable, and time-targeted objectives. You figure out want you want, you write your desires down, and then you work towards achieving them.
Benefits and Importance of Goal Setting
Without goals or a destination, you are like a heat seeking missile with no heat to seek.
In addition to letting go of the chains that pull you in every direction, another benefit of goal setting is that it naturally helps you stay away from the circumstances you want to avoid in life.

Specific
Be specific. Buying a 3 bedroom house with a two car garage in downtown Chicago is a clearer target for your mind than merely saying you want to own your own home.
Measurable
It is easier to stay committed if you can measure progress. If you set a goal to increase sales by 10%, and sales are up 5%, you can see the progress.
Positive
Say what you want to achieve instead of what you want to avoid. I will attend all classes vs. I won’t miss any classes. When I say don’t think of a pink cow, what is the first thing that pops up in your mind? Right, a pink cow. Your mind doesn’t hear the words won’t and no. So when you set a goal of not missing any classes, your mind automatically visualizes you missing classes, and that is not what you want your mind to do. You want it to visualize what it is you want, so always state your goals in the positive.
Deadline
Set a date that you want to accomplish your goal by. Deadlines make you more serious about your goals; otherwise you might find yourself always postponing your efforts to get started. Set deadlines appropriately. Remember that some goals may take years to accomplish, while others can take as little as a day. Also, some goals don’t have a deadline necessarily to complete something by, rather a deadline to start something.
