It’s during this stage that children tend to gain self-esteem and a sense of identity. Also, dramatic physical changes and develop interests and abilities that can last a lifetime (McCoy, 2015). Some children, at this stage, tend to struggle with social interactions and to fit in with their peers. The social institution would allow the family to have cash assistance, food stamps, Medicaid and assist with safe housing. In an ideal world Leticia would seek assistance without fear of being reported to immigration. Social is the highest priority at this time because the family needs housing assistance. Their current living conditions have poor waste water systems and toxic fumes which can aggravate the children’s asthma and cause health problems.

Latino/as family do express a strong support system. I do admire the belief that a child’s behavior does reflect the honor of the family, that right there is a strong statement. This makes me think that Latino/as take pride in their families as a whole. Even down to the language. I know it’s being mentioned that the language is fading or weakening from their culture, but I believe that it is not. I feel that the Spanish language is returning especially in the classroom, in which all student will have the opportunity to learn it.
Most of the Hispanic/Latinos believe in God, they believe that God is an active force in everyone’s life. For Latino families, faith and church play a crucial role in understanding illnesses and healing process of disease conditions. A majority Latinos worship every day and most of them believe in attending religious services at least once a month. Latinos believe that “Familismo is the value of family over individual or community needs and the expression of strong loyalty, reciprocity, and solidarity between family members” (CDC, n.d.)
Thanks Yafah, it is a pleasure to meet you. You have great goals and plans to increase your ability to engage with the Hispanic population, so I believe your views about engaging contains learning and training about the Hispanic culture and their families. Culturally competent social work practice with Latinos is crucial for ensuring effective access to and treatment delivery to this population. Furman, R., Negi, N. Iwamoto, D. Rowan, D., Shukraft, A., & Gragg J. (2009). You are right in your research about the importance of family among the Hispanic population, so here is some research that I gathered about Hispanic families as well. Familism is a cultural value and belief that the family is central in the life of the individual. Family diversity,

Growing up in a Hispanic household has taught me many things. I have learned to see things as an optimistic person, and that it doesn’t matter where you come from as long as you work hard for what you want anything is possible. My family has always implemented the values of life that lead me to perceive what it was about to throw at me.
For many centuries, the reputation of Latinos and Hispanics both have been discriminated and have inspired many people through ethics and culture. Some people may think there always out of jobs, or they have no level of education and dropouts. Latinos are just like anyone trying to get by and put all the effort into becoming better and giving their all into any situation. Mexico in American eyes is looked upon poorly but But they also maintain strong reputations of work ethic, family oriented and passionate.
One of the issues that the family is encountering will be financial since they are a lot of members living in the same house. Another family member is Alejandro living with them who works and goes to college. Alejandro is fully bilingual and is trying to help his parents but dislikes his job and has been feeling emotionally unstable. There is also Carmen who is hearing impaired due to Celia contracting rubella while pregnant. Carmen needs help figuring out what college she wants to attend and how to get scholarships and this will possibly put the family at a financial hardship. There’s also the other daughter Emilia who had Joey and he’s being with parents’ in
Adolescence describes the transitional stage in a teenager’s life, from childhood to adulthood, where an individual evolves physically, psychologically, emotionally, cognitively and socially. It is a defined social category that is expressed through immaturity and unpredictability and allows an individual to learn and discover their sense of self and identity. The idea of adolescence came into perspective after children were expected to take on adult roles as soon as they were mature enough to, going straight from puberty to adulthood. As society changed and moulded, so did the ideas about life stages, which is evident in Erikson’s theory.
Erikson’s stage of Identity vs. Role Confusion (13-19 years old), was a crucial time for my brother and I, as my parents decided to put us back in public school. I was thirteen-years old at the time, just entering the eighth grade as a “new kid” in a very small rural community. This was beyond some of my toughest

No one knows what each person is going through. Could a person spot someone going through hardships? Is the person who wears a grin from ear to ear truly happy? While many people put on a brave face for the public, not everyone is satisfied with the way their life is. Emmanuel Gonzales can walk into any room and be noticed from his strong presence. His pearly white teeth are always showing through his big grin. Emmanuel was always a happy man, with a hurting heart. He kept his sexual orientation under wraps for seven years for many reasons. Emmanuel was afraid; afraid of what everyone was going to think, afraid of how people were going to treat him. His secret was eating him alive. When he officially came out in 2013, his life changed in a way he could not put into words. Even though he felt free, his struggles still
