How would I ensure that my work goals and plans reflect the organisation’s goals and plans?
To ensure that my work goals and plans reflect the organisation’s goals and plans, first I would identify what the organisation’s goals and plans are. The identification can be done by examining the organisation’s strategic and operational plans. Strategic plans sent out an organisation’s goals or what it hopes to achieve over a specified period of time, usually three or five years. Operational plans also focus on an organisation’s goals. Unlike strategic plans, they focus on a shorter period of time, often just one year and they tend to be more detailed and outline exactly what each work unit needs to achieve in any given year. Besides examining the organisation’s strategic and operational plans which can be time consuming, another way to find out about the vision and strategic direction of the organisation is to consult a manager or a supervisor. In particular, ask them to explain what the goals for the organisation are with facts and figures. Tell the manager or supervisor what tasks I can be doing that will help the team.
