Throughout the years Goodyear has been distributing its tires only through the company-owned Goodyear Auto Service Centers and franchised Goodyear Tire dealers. The decision of Goodyear Company to broaden its distribution to Sears Auto Centers will have several advantages and disadvantages related to this action.
Advantages: 1) Increase in sales in the short term, which will create an increase of market share in the long term. Goodyear’s sales are declined because of multi-branding among mass merchandisers by warehouse membership club stores and discount tire retailers. Also, customers are price sensitive and they seek inexpensive tires at places such as Sears. 2) Expanded distribution. Sears has a strong market presence and can

2) Goodyear’s Tires brand image maybe hurt. Due to the fact that Sears sells mostly tires that are not premium quality, consumers may start to think Goodyear as a moderate brand and not as a high-quality product as it has been positioned. 3) Consumers of tires are becoming more price conscious and less brand loyal, thus they easily proceed into brand switching and erode the importance of securing replacement sales through original equipment sales to vehicle manufactures. 4) Dealer-sponsored private-label tires accounted for 15% to 20% of total replacement tire sales in the US in 1991.Many dealers are able to influence choices and push their private-label tires to obtain higher margins.
The above decision of Goodyear Company to distribute its tires to Sears Auto Centers should be carefully implemented. As we know Goodyear tires have been positioned as high quality products and as the advertising slogan communicates, “The best tires in the world have Goodyear written all over them”. This means that well studied actions should be taken when it comes to distribute to places such as Sears Auto Centers. The customers that go to department stores to replace their tires, they are not really knowledgeable about the several types of tires. Thus, they choose on the basis of price or others patronize with their dealers. As mentioned earlier, consumers are not brand loyal and they are becoming more
The competitive advantage for Canadian Tire stems from the dependency on its dealers and how they interact with their local economy and community. As the dealers are at the front line in garnering profits and attracting and retaining customers, it is critical that they adjust the supplies and stocks accordingly to the needs of their community. The competitive advantage for the Canadian Tire brand relies on three key elements that the dealers possess in order to support a growing and profitable business. According to the Canadian Tire Annual Report (2010), the brand depends on the “business instincts, [the dealer’s] connection and commitment to their communities and their local market insights to ensure [they’re] offering relevant products at competitive prices” (p. 29).
If I were to be accepted into the National Junior Honor Society, which is one of the highest honors that can be awarded, I would consider myself to be a very lucky person. Throughout my life, I've always considered myself as someone with good character and values.I've always prided myself in always doing the right thing and helping others. In addition, I view myself as a leader, not a follower. Being a leader comes naturally to me. I'm a leader amongst my friends and siblings. They always look up to me when they have a problem or when they need advice. I have a good standard education with an A average which will help me achieve my goals in the future.
I may not be the best candidate for the next member of the National Junior Honor Society, but I certainly believe I could be a great addition! Overall, I am a great learner, leader and student. I have not had any major discipline problems since kindergarten! I have always had top grades and have been top of my class at some point or another. I have good grades that I always maintain and standards that I never lower. My character is not the best but it certainly isn’t the worst. I try to help out in my school or community when possible but regrettably I have not given much of my time to my school or community. At the end of the day, I am a good student, friend, son and brother.
Different retailing businesses have very different distribution methods based on the types of product that they sell, some arguably more effectively than others.
I believe that I would be a good representative for the National Junior Honor Society because I represent the five qualities of a member of the organization: scholarship, leadership, service, citizenship, and character. I have leadership skills from programs like Girl Scouts, softball, and Student Council. I’ve volunteered in many service projects including Christmas bags for foster children, playing piano at a hospice center, volunteering at a food bank, teaching brownies (2nd to 3rd graders) how to camp at a Girl Scout camp, passing out flowers to rooms in a hospice center, and passing out care packages to the homeless. I have amazing citizenship skills such as following rules and laws in not only the classroom but in my community, teaching
The National Junior Honor society, to me, represents the highest honor someone can achieve while in Middle School. Being accepted into such a prestigious society would not only give me an environment where I can improve my character, but it will also give me an experience which will help me gain a leadership position in the future. My intentions while in this society are to gain knowledge on what I can do to better my household as well as my community as a whole. While in this society I will work diligently to make positive changes to my community and school.
I would like to become a member of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), because it is a great honor to be recognized by the teaching staff of the Andrews Middle School. I feel that I exemplify the five pillars of the NJHS and show leadership amongst my peers. I am glad that my hard work has been noticed. In addition, I am proud to be placed amid a group of students my own age, who are all working towards the same goals. Being a member in the NJHS will also look impressive on my future job applications.
As defined by the dictionary, honor is a high respect that is earned through deeds and reputation. But, what is honor, and how does one receive it? Honor is like many things that are hard to put into words. Along with that, honor can be totally different, depending on your perspective. In the play, A Few Good Men, there is a central theme based around honor, who is doing right and who is doing wrong.
They had gotten just that from new CEO Steve Bachand. Steve was a Massachusetts native, who had spent his teen years working in a hardware store on weekends and summers. He later on acquired a master’s degree in Business administration, and had just built a US home improvement chain basically from scratch to a $1 billion company. At the time, shopping experience at Canadian Tire was like “waiting in a hospital emergency ward and lining up at the welfare office” (Silcoff). With profit at its lowest, Steve also had to deal with internal affairs between dealers and head office, and the threat of US big brands expanding into Canada. Canadian Tire had poor ownership structure, where “dealers own 20% of stock, inventory and fixtures” (Olive), and could not agree on anything with head office. Through customer research, taking polls of their shoppers they had been able to agree on a few things. According to Olive, they “learned that customers wanted lower prices, greater assortment, an end to out-of-stock [problems], better services, and a store that was easier to shop in”. Bachand had turned the company into an “agenda setter” (Silcoff). At first, it had been simple changes like properly lighting up stores and improving product display. However, more importantly they had focused the chain on “sports and leisure, auto parts and home products” (Silcoff). Furthermore, in order to
JC Penney had to undergo and withstand several competitive issues to include changing of brand image, selling strategy and marketing strategy. JC Penney also had to account for Environmental Factors to include: a population that continued to age and also unemployment rates. JC Penney tried to influence customers by portraying an everlasting sale. No matter how hard JC Penney tried to market their products, if people didn’t

First of all, a strong brand can be seen as the condition for organisations to expand products, offer more service, and introduce new products (Chernatony and McDonald, 2003). Secondly, a strong brand can lead to growth marketing communication effectiveness (Keller, 2009). ‘To build a strong brand, the right knowledge structures must exist in the minds of actual or prospective customers so that they respond positively to marketing activities and programs in these different ways.’(Keller, 2003, p. 140) Furthermore, Kay (2005) asserted that the strong brand can be seen as a resource of management, which make brand extension easier and useful to build distribution network. Companies are not treated by the intermediaries (Chernatony and McDonald, 2003). Moreover, companies are comparatively easier to change price if they have strong brands. As Henderson, et al (2003) said, a strong brand can allow for premium pricing even still remain loyalty customers, which help companies to survive in the intensive competitive market.
In order to determine which option to choose, Goodyear weighed the advantages and disadvantages of each. The advantage of having a ‘premium’ tire is being able to charge more, thus generating higher profits. On the other hand, consumer perception at the time was that buying tires is a ‘grudge purchase’ and they were not willing to pay the extra money for features they didn’t want. Goodyear’s tires had always been marketed toward the average consumer who wanted a good tire at a good price. The possibility of losing those loyal customers was high. The second option of which distribution channel to go through also has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantage of moving to a large wholesaler, rather than just independent tire dealers, was greater exposure and possibly higher profits. However, Goodyear’s past revenue mainly came from loyal independent dealers, and it could be devastating to business if Goodyear lost that loyal base. In addition to the cost, independent tire dealers didn’t feel Aquatred’s ‘premium’ features warranted the high cost or that it would appeal to their customers.
This means that a slight change in consumer demand can hurt Ford’s profits dramatically. The average accessibility of replacements allows customers the choice to go elsewhere. This strongly suggests that Ford needs to increase customer gratification to deal with outside elements.
