In today’s society, no matter where you are, there is always a good chance that you have seen an advertisement. These little creatures are everywhere. You may see them when you are reading a magazine, watching TV, or surfing the internet. We have become so used to them. Advertisements are good at making us stop what we are doing and giving them our full attention. What is an advertisement? An advertisement is an announcement made to the public. In Jib Fowles’ article, “Advertising’s Fifteen Basic Appeals,” he is informing us that companies are spending millions of dollars on advertisements to grab our attention in order to manipulate us into spending or thinking of spending our hard-earned money on their product. Although false advertising laws differ from country to country, in the United States there are two ways that in which false advertisements are regulated. The first way of regulation is taking the company directly to court. This works best if a consumer is able to prove that the advertisement is misleading. In court, if the decision is made in favor of the plaintiff the company must immediately end the advertisement, be forced to pay fines, and may even have to recall their product. This rarely happens because of the time and money that must be spent concerning the legal system. The second way false advertising is regulated is through a mediating association. The association that specifically
Advertising is protected by the First Amendment of the United States constitution. Conversely, advertising requires less control from the First Amendment, but requires the majority of control from the government and most importantly, the Federal Trade Commission. The Federal Trade Commission controls the content and images that are being advertised to consumers that seem to be exaggerated or just plain over the top. With that being said, false advertising is one of the biggest rising issues amongst many companies, celebrities, business, and much more. False advertising is when an individual(s) attempt to betray consumers into believing they are purchasing an absolutely amazing product, when in reality, they are

For me when I watch sports (which is almost on a daily biases) it doesn’t take very long to see an advertisement for a fantasy gambling website such as Draftkings.com and FanDuel.com. Both of these companies have had issues recently with their advertising. Recently there have been two issues of false advertising against Draftkings and one issue against FanDuel.
For example virgin media ad was misleading it said that there speed was 40mbps faster however virgin is slower also The Advertising Standards Authority has banned two Virgin Media broadband adverts for promoting “unlimited downloads” with “no caps” on data usage because the ISPs Traffic Management Policy was found to contradict this by imposing an “immoderate” restriction on customers service speeds. Advertisements are a huge part of our everyday lives. We see different types of ads everywhere we look; while watching television, listening to the radio, riding on the bus and even walking around your school campus. It seems like the whole world is being flooded by advertisements.
All of my chosen advertisements come from the same origin, www.classifiedads.com, and as such each one contains similar basic information: a brief description of the creator (40 year old divorced male, for example), photographs of the author, methods of contact, and a 100-400 word blurb covering everything from the writer’s favorite hobbies to what he or she looks for in a possible partner. As the rest of the characteristics are not relevant to the prompt, only the last aspect of each ad (the multi paragraph description) will be discussed.
Conversely, websites maintained by anonymous entities, or named entities or individuals without any verifiable credentials in the field of information may not necessarily be such good candidates for credible sources of online information. Furthermore, there are many websites that are maintained by commercial interests; they may provide information that is factually accurate, but out of context or without referencing other points of view. For that reason, it is important to know whether a given potential source of online information is owned or sponsored by commercial interests.
