In 2004, Obama walked up to the podium at the Democratic National Convention as a political novelty. The speech he delivered established Obama as a natural leader and transformed him into a future presidential candidate. Rich in demonstrative rhetoric, its purpose was to unite the American people through nationalism. The exploration of his rhetoric and style throughout this paper will cement why the speech was beneficially identity transforming for Obama's political career.

Do traffic signals make a difference when drivers are conducting their vehicles? In U.K. the roads have less signs and are smaller roads than in the United States. The United States has great amounts of traffic signals and symbols all over the road to make the driver more aware. In the U.K. accidents do occur but not that often has in the United States. In response to Geoffrey Shepherd's article “It’s clear the US should not have bombed Hiroshima and Nagasaki”. Shepard tries to pull us into his claim by using pathos, logos, and ethos. He uses estimates of 500,000 Japanese soldiers died from the atomic bomb. Then Geoffrey begins to state that we had an alternative spot to drop the bombs, the alternate spot we could’ve dropped the bomb would have been Tokyo Bay. It was idle and estimated that less lives would’ve been taken and would showed more of a threat to the Japanese leaders.

So, the Republican National Convention is finally over! And I may sound like a broken record, but this really, bothered me. As you all have probably heard already, the whole thing was basically about fear.

Today’s world is filled with advertisement, whether it is in public areas, automobiles, or even on television. The world is filled advertisement and it has been part of society’s everyday life. The advertisement being presented today is AT&T, an American multinational telecommunications corporation. The advertisement takes up an entire page. The visual shows an AT&T cell phone along with a panda bear surrounded with bamboo sticks. The cell phone is located between the bamboos and takes up approximately ⅕ of the page. The panda is hiding behind the bamboo, but the panda’s face is still visible. It appears that the panda is looking at the phone with amazement. Excluding the cell phone and the panda, the colors that are shown in the advertisement are green with a mixture of yellow. The bamboo has designs of hands and some have more fingers raised than others. Some fingers are even longer than others. The bamboo also has the hands facing in all different directions. However, the process for each option is not only time consuming, expensive, painful, but can also have severe consequences. Lambert points out that most people, a while after they have been tattooed, figure out the useless of their body art, and decide to pay any price to get them removed. He affirms that the laser option, in addition, to being expensive, extensive and painful, can also cause skin disorders with the uncertainty of complete removal. It is said that people fear what they don’t understand. The unknown has always inspired anxiety in us as a species. Feelings such as that are to be expected, even healthy, to have. If we had no fear, it is quite unlikely humans would have survived until now. Self-preservation is paramount to survival; yet, in the era in which we live it is often used against us. Fear mongering is a device used by advertisers, media, and politicians. Russia’s government is a perfect example, as mentioned in Maia Szalavitz’s essay, of how fear can blind one to long-term damage while concentrating on instantaneous threats. Governments such as Russia’s use so called politics of fear as a weapon to maintain control over their people by repressing or removing those who oppose them; this is exceptionally evident in the assassination of Putin critic, Boris Nemtsov (Gel’man 8).
