Gouts are a very painful form of arthritis, caused by the accumulation of uric acid crystals in the joint space, and inflame the joints. These crystals only form when there is excess amount of uric acid in the blood; uric acid (a waste product that is usually filtered from the blood by the kidneys and expelled from the body through the urine) is formed when the body breaks down some compounds called purine.
