On January 20, 2018, the United States government shutdown when the Extension of Continuing Appropriations Act of 2018, a bill to fund the federal government, failed to pass Congress. The reason for this was due to disagreements between Democrats and Republicans on a proposed extension to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy incorporated into the bill. In response, Democrats, those who supported the DACA extension, led a filibuster in the Senate that effectively halted any legislative progress on the bill. Despite Republicans enacting a a cloture vote, a vote to forcibly end a filibuster, it failed to garner the sixty votes necessary to end the filibuster. As a result, the government shutdown will furlough thousands of federal
The Republicans first priority with Trump becoming the new president is to repeal Obamacare and to start the process by developing a reconciliation bill and to take a final vote in the beginning of February. Although, many Democratic lawmakers in Washington, DC are still trying to slow the process as much as possible by proposing many amendments to the table. Furthermore, Republican Senate Budget Committee chairman Mike Enzi suggests that the program has caused more harm than good by causing many businesses across the country to withdraw from the market and to leave many families with much less options than before to obtain the care that they need. In Conclusion, the result of repealing Obamacare will cause the elimination of fundings
According to NBC News’ article, “Sorry, we’re closed: Government shutdown ripples across the country,” published on October 1, 2013, written by Matthew DeLuca, it describes how many of the general population were affected when Congress members failed to reach a consensus regarding the government’s finances and budgets. The Senate rejected laws proposed by the Republican portion of the House, which led to delays in the cancellation of the Affordable Care Act. This shutdown lasted sixteen days, which angered many people. People were upset over the fact while they were going to work, the government workers were not showing up for work. During the shutdown, many Senators’ offices were closed, meaning they weren’t able to respond to requests from
The word on the hill is that if Republicans don’t cave and fund Obama’s DHS amnesty scheme that they will be blamed by the people and pay for it at the polls. Where have we heard that before?
Today, Supreme Court Nominee’s, Neil Gorsuch, Confirmation hearing came near conclusion on a very confrontational note with the Senate’s Principal Democrat threatening to filibuster. This would complicate the way the senate “conducts its business”. The Republicans eager to confirm Gorsuch only have a 52-majority instead of the 60-majority that is necessary. However, they say he will be confirmed anyway, even if it means removing the filibuster option and allowing nominees to be confirmed with a simple majority vote. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer’s decision to filibuster was not unexpected but it will increase tension in the senate. “If this nominee cannot earn 60 votes — a bar met by each of President Obama’s nominees, and George Bush’s last two nominees — the answer isn’t to change the rules. It’s to change the nominee,” he said. Although the democrats do not have the votes to block this motion, his filibuster will publicize the resistance in the Congress.
Neither side ever wanted the issue to become so out of hand that it was forced to shut down, but that is what it led to. The shutdown was tough for both sides. Most Americans believe that the shutdown was the Republicans fault, (National Journal) but it was actually fault on both sides. Both sides were too bullheaded to realize the consequences that could arise and solve their problems without a fight. There is no perfect way to solve this problem. Mainly because it is over a big issue. Potentially if one side would have been more willing to work together, maybe some of the dispute could have been resolved
Throughout the 19th century, the Senate left ending the filibuster up to the filibustering senators and when they felt they had been adequately heard, they could give up the floor and allow debate to move on to a vote. In 1917, at the request of President Wilson, the Senate adopted a procedure known as the cloture vote, which could end a filibuster. If a cloture vote is called for, a supermajority of senators can force an end to debate and bring the question under consideration to an up or down vote. Initially, achieving cloture required a vote from two thirds of all elected senators; the number was later changed to three fifths of all elected senators. In 1975, the Senate made a change that made it significantly easier to filibuster by adopting rules that allow other business to be conducted while a filibuster is, technically underway. Since 1975, senators have not needed to stand up on the floor and make their case to their colleagues and their constituents in order to halt legislation. Instead, these “virtual filibusters” can be conducted while a Senator is absent. These filibusters aren’t just being used to extend debates or stall votes—today, senators filibuster motions
In 1789, the Senate and House of Representatives ordered a rule where only a majority vote was needed to conclude a debate. Although the House of Representatives kept that rule, the Senate got rid of it in 1806 without replacing it with another. This soon led to the opening idea of a filibuster. The initial purpose for a filibuster was to ensure that the minority opinions were apprehended and understood. Currently, some people still regard the filibuster as a strategy to protect the right of free speech and minorities.
Executive order is a rule or order issued by the president to an executive branch of the government and having the force of law. Executive Order (EOs) were used since President George Washington but were not mandated to be publicly released until 1900. To date, there have been thirteen thousand eight hundred and seven executive orders. Many argue that these orders are unconstitutional as it gives one-person authority to make changes without consequences and without the consent of Congress. The term executive order is not a principle found within the Constitution. EO is derived from Article II, Section I of the Constitution in which it states, “the executive Power shall be vested in a President of the United States of America”. The term executive power was never defined, leaving it open to the interpretation of each president. That statement coupled with Article II, Section III “he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed” has been the backbone of how presidents have been able to create these orders.
Should the President of the United States have to be born on United States soil?
Sometimes, the end does not justify the means. Stephen King’s “Quitter’s Inc.” explores Richard Morrison’s process of giving up his smoking habit under the guidance of his counsellor Victor Donatti. Throughout the narrative, Morrison is pressured under the “ten-step punishment scale” Quitter’s Inc. operates while being tempted to smoke. After realizing the stakes at hand, Quitter’s Inc, through Donatti, can be viewed as the antagonist in this story. Donatti considers himself a pragmatist, stating that “a pragmatic problem demands pragmatic solutions”.
On Tuesday June 28th, president Obama attended the North American Leaders' Summit with Mexico’s President, Enrique Peña Nieto and Canada’s Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau as the leaders of North America. Why did the three leaders stand together? The plot to the summit was for their ambitious new pledged. The three leaders further harmonized trade to boost clean energy production. Moved and turn into a thesis. Can we stay unified after Obama is out the White House? Will it be possible to continue unification as the United States faces the challenge of Brexit, strong presidential leadership as we near the presidential election?
The shame on the Democrats for not attending the inauguration seems to be childish. Pete Aguilar and Kamala Harris recognized Trump as legitimate. I am delighted that my White House will be occupied by sound and sane soul and glamour and gracious First Lady. Trump has a chance to turn sixteen years of bad governing making America Good Again. I look forward scrapping Common Core, re-negotiate foreign trade, correct currency manipulation, stimulate the dismantle of the Euro Zone, correct trade deals, negate relationship with Saudi Arabia who are responsible for ISIS and spread of Wahhabism and encourage Iranians to dispose a government who implemented the idea of suicide bombers as a correct view of Sharia Law. The green light of human bombing began with Khomeini who justified sacrifice as duty Syria picked up on the idea, and used it to kick the Americans out during President Reagan Administration. Unfortunately, Americans vacated void of addressing the ideology using the human bomb. Forwarding the clock, the radical ideology of Islam spread throughout Arab states, Africa, and Europe. Arabs successfully sold the idea that America evil in nature, and proceed to propagandize and managed a false perception.
When a government’s spending exceeds its revenues causing or deepening a deficit it is called deficit spending. Deficit spending is only one of numerous tools used to help manage the economy. There are advantages and disadvantages to deficit spending that we will discuss further below.
Luckily, with spending cut didn’t include furlough days. Furlough days are mandatory days off during the day that are unpaid. This means less pay for the year and fewer days for employees to do their job. Furlough days would make a hug impact on departs within the legislative branch, such as the Library of Congress and The Government Printing Office. If those departments have furlough days than this means the whole Library of Congress would be closed. This also means less work getting done so things would fall behind and work would pile up. This article was about the legislative branch in 2013 and how the spending cut affect big departments within. (Hicks, J)
The care for the mentally retarded has competition on other organizations that offer the same as Jay Carlos’s facility, but however it is on friendly terms. Although there may be of new threats that new homes are popping up to help care for mentally retarded individuals, it does not seem too much of a threat because ultimately they are doing the same as in caring for each individual.Jay seems to be concerned about these individuals as much as his wife and they are working hard at keeping OSHA at bay on the terms of the procedures and policies of blood-borne pathogens and Hepatitis vaccines. The conclusions that can be drawn are; OSHA is only there to ensure that the homes are safe and in healthful working conditions, Jay has not been in contact
