Part 3: Test Instructions Before the students began the assessment, I explained how they will use the different strategies they have been learning to solve addition and subtraction problems on the worksheet. I expressed how this worksheet will let me know if we need more practice with any strategy that we have learned so far. I continued to go over the various components of the assessment. I began by declaring that there are only five problems they need to solve and each problem has directions above it. I emphasized the importance of reading the instructions because the problems ask you to solve the equation is different ways. I also communicated that I will be circulating the room to ensure that there are no wandering eyes. Also, that I will be there to help students understand the directions. In my class this school year there are 8 English Language Learners who may be able to read the directions but could have trouble understanding them. I explained that I will not tell them how to use the strategy or tell them the answer but I will provide help in terms of understanding what is being asked. Many strategies and tools are being utilized throughout the assessment. I have provided clear instructions for each problem. The directions are given before the problem and are specific to that one problem. The directions vary from each problem due to the strategy being used as well as the operation being used. The assessment demonstrates the representativeness of the assessment
(a) There are typically six assessment methods that we can chose to employ within your role. These are listed below along with examples of when and how they could be implemented:
What were the objectives of this lesson? How well do you think your students understood the overall purpose and relevance of the lesson? (APS 4.A–C)

The pre-assessment used to establish students’ baseline knowledge and skills for this lesson is first to watch the video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Z2gpbYiEXo. After the video engages the students to bring back prior knowledge, they will be given a white board. The students will work out a subtraction problem on the board for me to see what they already understand about solving subtraction word problems. I will use the data to know what parts of the instruction on how to solve subtraction word problems need to be more emphasized to the students.

This October 2017, practicum observation at Sharpsville Elementary consisted of a third grade Math Assessment interview and observation. The third grade teacher works on formative and summative assessment in the math class. The teacher uses different ways to assess students in the classroom. In most cases, whether the child is above level or at the level where the child should be she has many options and strategies on how to solve mathematical problems as a whole-group or individually. This reflection will discuss the formative assessment, summative assessment, how students respond to the instruction, and a student interview observation..
The following are the eight (8) steps that are included in the manual, which is used in the assessment process: (Fisher, 2013)
