When I was in high school, college was something I only dreamed would one day be an opportunity for me. Coming from a tough childhood with little opportunity, college was one of many things that I felt was just out of my reach and unattainable. With hard work, perseverance, and dedication I made my dream come true. One of the proudest accomplishments of my life was earning my Associates in Arts, and continuing on to my Bachelor of Social Work. This experience has taught me to value my ability to work hard toward what I want to accomplish, dedicate myself to what I am passionate about, and persevere even when things get especially hard. These factors make me a strong candidate for entering the Master of Social Work program at Western …show more content…
Becoming a young mom at fourteen to a child with special needs and later spending time in foster care taught me how one person can truly make a difference in another’s life. I learned how important it was to advocate and speak up. These experiences opened my eyes to the need of social workers. My experiences have greatly contributed to my personal knowledge. While it does not define who I am, it has shaped the person I am today. I will bring my passion for learning and knowledge to the classroom. Education is so important to me. I believe that I can contribute to classroom diversity by sharing my personal experience, values, and my own point of view to help others consider other backgrounds and experiences. In addition, I hope to do the same and learn from my classmates.

I am currently completing my BSW Practicum. I am completing my practicum at Woodland Elementary School Family Resource Center (Hardin County Schools). Since beginning my practicum, I have gained a lot more experience and knowledge of the skills and roles of a social worker. In the beginning of my practicum, I was not sure what to expect. However, I have learned more about social work roles and have gotten to gain experience as a case manager, broker, advocate, educator and facilitator. I also feel more confident and comfortable utilizing social work skills like active listening, assessing

On many levels, I secretly desire to be this professional social worker that has experienced many different realms of social work practice. As I maneuver through my first couple days of field, many questions run through my mind as to what’s to be expected of a master’s level social work. Although, I’ve only had the pleasure of working children and families as a social worker; it has broaden my desire to want to know more.
In applying to Arizona State University’s School of Social Work (ASU SSW) Ph.D. program, I aspire to peruse a career as a social work educator. I plan to use this platform and newly acquired skills developed with the university, to advance the field

Senior year rapidly is coming to an end, I’ve had the opportunity to see many of my friends come to the exciting moment in their life when they sign that dotted line and I was still waiting on my chance. My entire life I had dreamt of the day to finally committed to a college basketball team, this was my goal and it had to be my purpose in life. January 18, 2015 at 4:41 PM I got an exciting text from Truett-Mcconnell’s head coach, Matt Sanders, stating,” Good afternoon Claudia this is Coach Sanders from Truett-Mcconnell College, and I really feel like we need to begin the recruiting process with you! Sorry to bother you on a Sunday, but I just didn’t want to let time slip away! I look forward to hearing back from you!” Here was my chance!
It is with great pleasure that I welcome you back to another academic year here at Prince George’s Community College. As our students return to campus and our faculty and professional staff prepare for the busy weeks and months to come, I wanted to take a few moments to look ahead to an exciting fall term and beyond, as well as share a few of the College’s highlights from the past year—a year that has seen us continue our growth and evolution into one of the most dynamic and exciting institutions in the region.
When I was six and placed in the Foster Care System for three years away from my mother, it made me value the importance of family one needs a young age. This childhood experience I hold with me will benefit in the field of social work, which is what I want to pursue in college as my degree. I believe one of the most difficult obstacles I had to face being taken away from my mother while not knowing the problem of the situation and learning how handle at such a young age to be away from my mother's warmth. I give complete gratitude to my mother who fought her best to win us over when the odds were against her, and to the thoughtful social workers who understood the situation my siblings and me. As I now enter college I have taken a look at
During the last three years of my attendance here at Mt. Edgecumbe High School, I could not think of a teacher who has influenced me more than yourself. You’ve taught me to not only appreciate music, but to appreciate life. I’ve spent a total of four semesters in your Choir class and one semester in your Accounting class. We’ve traveled to two music festivals through Choir class, which are two of my most memorable experiences here in MEHS. I’ve also been apart of the MEHS award-winning Radio Club under your supervision. You’ve certainly witnessed my development as a maturing adult. It would be an honor to have a letter of recommendation from a teacher like yourself. Thank you for making my high school years enjoyable. If you choose to write
Some people have asked to read the commencement address I delivered this morning to the 2013 graduates of Butler University. So here it is.
Hello my name is Joshua Simpson! I am 16 years old and I live in the Great Lake State! After graduating from SC4, I plan on transferring over to Wayne State University to earn my Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering. When I am not in school, I play the piano and the organ. And I love to draw!! The reason why I am taking this class is because I want to learn about the body and how it works, and also to learn how I can have a healthy life. I hope to gain knowledge from this class about how I can live a healthy and happy life. If I were to chose 4 words to describe me I would chose, hardworking, determined, diligent, and silly! I picked this words because I am always hardworking and diligent in my studies. I am very determined to finish school

Hello Jodie,My name is Kyle McKenna I am currently grade 10 and attending Latrobe High School.
For several years now, I have felt drawn to support and strengthen the communities similar to my own. From an early age I witnessed how social workers can help those struggling to find the resources they need to foster change. Although it took sometime to trace my passion for helping those in need, upon reflection, I am able to clearly see a pattern of people, agencies and institutions that provide the additional support I need to be successful. Understanding these patterns has not only impacted my experience, but also serves as the primary reason I have chosen to pursue a career in social work.
Over the past years, I have been working in the social care field, I have come to realize that my passion lies in helping people who are less advantaged, and therefore, I am taking a next step by pursuing a higher education course in becoming a social worker.
Every worthwhile journey begins with one step. My social work journey began when I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Utah in 2003. I thought my next step would be to immediately pursue a graduate degree. In my undergraduate career I had taken numerous classes from the College of Social and Behavioral Science and had done well in those classes. In my Social Work as a Profession course I had an assignment to shadow a social worker and write a paper about my experience. I chose to shadow my father-in-law, a social worker with over 30 years of experience, and in my paper I expressed my desire to go into the social work field. I knew I liked helping people. I knew I liked problem solving and critical thinking. I thought my 22 year-old self was ready to embark on that journey, but I wasn’t. I realize now that what I lacked at graduation was one crucial step… perspective. Over the past twelve years I have gained that much needed perspective and have taken many steps forward in my journey, and with those steps and that increased perspective, I now feel more fully prepared to begin my social work career.
