Many people believe that teaching is a very challenging career and wonder and wonder why anyone would ever choose it as a lifelong profession; but then I realized there is no other career I would love most than the teaching profession. Since my childhood, I have been fascinated by my fourth grade teacher Ms. Amo-Dako because and her dedication and passion for her students, and I desired from then on that I wanted to be like her. However, being a part of someone’s life, making a positive change and affecting the world through the next generation attracts me to this occupation.
As an aspiring teacher, it is my intent to foster a classroom that will allow the progressive growth of my learners. My goals here are to encourage my students to

John Dewey believes in pragmatic learning which is centered on practice focusing on the process of learning through constructing meanings from direct experiences. “John Dewey, explored education as a social process (Dewey, 1897). He understood that children learn best when they interact in a rich environment with other people through the responses they receive from others (Mooney, 2000; Rushton & Larkin, 2001). Children attach value and social meanings to their activities which adhere mostly to the learning memory. Dewey commended that, “the classroom be organized as a community in which children learn in collaboration with each other and their teachers; people also learn best through social interaction in the world, and described that book learning cannot be compared to actually doing things.” (Sadker & Zittleman Page 190). I agree with this belief from my personal experience. Like most of my students, I learn better by seeing, touching or feeling to be able to grasp the subject matter under study. I can read a book several times for the same information but there is nothing like being educated through actually performing the task or seeing it play out that confirms Dewey’s commendation in my view.
Classroom learning to me is a way of communicating and interacting with students through experimenting with variety of activities integrated with hands-on and dialogue with peers to enhance their desire to learn and explore their
John Dewey is considered to have been a pedagogical progressivist, meaning he focused on education reform by first reforming the way that the teaching was actually done. In the past education focused on teaching children facts, mostly by learning with repetition. This was a problem because it taught children information but not how to use that mindfulness with critical thinking in real-world situations. These problems led John Dewey to write a series of articles that described his views on teaching and how it should be improved upon, this is called “My Pedagogic Creed”. Dewey wanted to equally incorporate a psychological, the abilities and interest of the student, and sociological, the needs and commitments of the society, aspect into teaching. He believed that children were born with blank slates and throughout their lives they would receive guidance “unconsciously” and be molded into adults (Dewey, 1). So the introduction of these aspects would help the molded children into better citizens and that would help drive the social economy into prosperity and overall a better democratic society.
I believe that education is the key in developing today’s students into tomorrow’s leaders. Education is the basis on which individuals develop their self-concept and the desire to become more knowledgeable. I want to become an educator because I am interested in helping elementary students become active learners and also to assist with their social skills. I believe I can make a difference to many students as they start their educational foundation. I feel that all teachers should possess the desire to devote their hard work and efforts to their students’ educational success. I view teaching as not only one of the most respected careers, but also as one in which the rewards are great and many
I have taught students ranging from five years old to nineteen years of age. Hence, being an educator, I have learned that learning is always shifting, therefore I must keep improving with the incessant changes. As a little girl, I have always dreamt of being a teacher and I have carried out that dream. My career journey started as a substitute teacher, a floater between classrooms, an assistant teacher, a teacher, a center supervisor, and an educational supervisor. I presently work as an Educational consultant for Danya International LLC. As an Educational Consultant, I able to review and aid with the learning environment of teachers and educational management in a school
Looking back at the experience I had in observing, I still have the determination to inspire others through a career in teaching. Teaching is a very diverse job that requires many skills and a lot of patience. It is important for a teacher to be able to maintain a healthy and professional relationship with their pupils, develop lesson plans that keep the attention of a majority of the students, make the atmosphere of the classroom inviting, and be a welcoming person capable of standing up in front of the class to
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve known what I wanted to do. I am one of those people who was blessed enough to realize my passion at an early age. As far back as I can remember, I’ve wanted to become a teacher. I can remember as a child sitting in my room, surrounded by my stuffed animals (or students, as I saw them) and forcing my younger brother to sit still and quietly do the work I assigned him. I even had two baskets which I kept on my little wooden desk; one for my “students” to turn in work, and the other for more work which needed to be graded. I spent many afternoons
My decision to be a teacher did not come easily to me. This choice was dependent on a reflection about what I was passionate about and how I could make a difference. I have chosen to become a teacher, as I believe teachers have the ability to provide future generations the stimulation for one of the most significant roles in life; to become a lifelong learner. Many teachers that I have had during my education have had a positive impact on my decision to grow and develop the skills that are fundamental to pursue a successful teaching career. My aim is to be a part of an honorable profession with the optimism that one day I will become an efficacious teacher who can provide future teachers with inspiration, as my teachers have provided for me. Through personal educational experiences and peer-reviewed academic literature, I am able to shape my approach to my pre-service teaching, as it will influence my future practice. As a teacher, there is not just one singular approach to educating students; there is a need for flexibility, diversity, adaptation and reflection.
Over the past twenty-two years of life, I can remember many instances where adults asked, “What do you want to do when you grow up?” My response changed the course of the years, but in high school, I realized, “I want to teach.” Then, the question that always followed with the expression of horror on their face, “Why do you want to teach?” Before I could utter a word, these individual’s would begin to ramble on about why I should not teach. “Teachers do not make a lot of money!” “Kids are so disrespectful these days!” After listening to them ramble, I finally answered. Foremost, I want to teach because I never want to stop learning. As a student, I enjoyed being challenged to learn difficult and interesting topics, and I want to
In life, many variables are ever changing. The only constant unchanging variable in my life is my love and passion for education. Teaching has been engrained in me since before I can remember. My entire family is comprised of educators and I have no doubt that it is what I was put on this earth to do. Many people have asked me, “Why teaching? You can do so much better than that,” and my response is simple; I want to wake up every morning and love what I do and in the process make an impact on a child’s life for the rest of his or her life.
With almost 4 years of teaching and tutoring experience I realized that teaching is an ideal profession to help others to determine and reach their potential.
Thinking back, I vividly remember always dreaming about pursing a career in education. As I’ve gotten older, I have begun to realize why exactly this profession has excited me for so many years. First, I love learning, and I want to spread this passion and enjoyment to my students. It is my mission to show them that learning can be fun, interactive, and truly life changing. Learning is something you do your entire life, and I want to equip my students with the proper skills and resources to be successful in this journey. Second, I have always thoroughly enjoyed helping others. By taking the initiative and seeking out opportunities, I want to form relationships with each of my students, finding ways
Ever since I was a little girl, I have had a fascination with teaching. The instructors in my life inspired me to be a better person and helped me grow in knowledge and wisdom. I have been surrounded by teachers for nearly my entire life; thus, at the close of my thirteen years in attendance of a school, I have come to the uncanny realization that I may have an interest in pursuing a career in teaching. Despite my extensive experience being around teachers, I realize that I honestly know little to nothing about what it is to be a teacher. I know that instructors must go through lengthy processes to be licensed to
Last week, we reviewed and discussed the fact that teachers need to continue to learn if we are to inspire our students to become lifelong learners. Roland Barth provided insight to how teacher growth impacts students tremendously. Barth stated, “Teacher growth is closely related to pupil growth.” (Barth). It is essential that teachers began to realize that what they did yesterday may not work today; therefore, they must
Students go to college in search of knowledge, a new lifestyle, and the hope of a job after graduation. For many young adults, college is a rite of passage into an independent, mature new lifestyle. Not only is higher education a rite of passage, for some, it is also an opportunity to have a better life. Overall, college is a wonderful part of many people’s lives, yet the way the college education system is conducted wastes students time and money. College is basically composed of two parts: general education classes and major specific classes. General education courses are the source of wasted time and money, and should not be required of students. A few of the problems associated with general education classes are that they are basically
Becoming a teacher is so much more challenging than people perceive it to be. Most candidates looking to go into teaching have not considered why they are going into the profession in the first place. Many have been pushed in the direction of teaching or haven’t figured out what else they want to do and they end up here. There are all different qualities that make up the foundation of the teaching experience such as passion, commitment, responsibility, patience and communication. In my life, I want to accomplish making a difference in the world by helping children use their thinking and communicating skills in order to grow and develop themselves by dreaming big and working hard. Studying Education and entering the teaching profession will help me accomplish this goal not only for my life but for the children’s too.
Mortimer Adler once said “the purpose of learning is growth, and our minds, unlike our bodies, can continue growing as long as we live”. (1) I strongly agree with this statement because learning is a lifelong process of acquiring knowledge and developing a particular skill, or set of skills. (5). For this reason, the teaching profession is one of great interest to me because it is something that I have always been passionate about, but most of all, it is something that I enjoy doing. In addition to this, my personal experiences also had a great impact on my decision. For instance, teachers have played an important role in my life as I have grown, by instilling good values in me
