“The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education.” Einstein said this quote in respect to the education system and it still holds true today. Einstein, even though he was a very gifted child, failed high school. While this might seem shocking, it still happens with gifted students today. Schools focusing more resources on the lower end of education is at the heart of this problem. Gifted students tend to be lumped in with regular students. Because schools overlook gifted students, gifted students aren’t challenged, become lax with learning, and become problematic.
The cause of most problems with gifted students, is that schools tends to overlook them. Gifted students, because they are already skilled in many areas of school especially at an early age, tend to not be the focus of schools these days. Public schools try to bring the lower end of the spectrum up to match the students, instead of moving the spectrum as a whole. Gifted students feel the brunt of the problems because they are put into classes with students that can effectively slow class and indirectly cause the gifted student to lose interest because they can already have the work done. When students, especially ones that are creative and imaginative, lose focus it can be painstaking to gain that attention back. It doesn’t help that their is no funding for Gifted Students from the government in the school system unlike programs for those who struggle in school.(NAGC) Because these students are…
