My favorite character was Iz the Wiz who said during the documentary,”A lot of trains, a lot of fun, a lot of art. Art that's gonna be part of New York City's history forever.” Which made think that graffiti is not vandalism but a form of expression that people use in a creative style of art. People always having such a negative connotation when it comes to the word graffiti always assuming it involves gangs and delinquents. Overall how New York and the MTA handled the situation with the outbreak of graffiti was harsh because it stopped the creativeness of the graffiti artist but it gave them more motivation to give New York city more life and color. One aspect I learned about the movie was the technical term of being called “tagging” and how
Is graffiti seen as vandalism or a notable art that is used to voice the opinion of many artists? Many are quick to conclude that graffiti is an act of defacing public property, but few are in understanding of what real graffiti is. Graffiti is defined as art that is displayed or created in public spaces. So this presents the question of why some critics believe that graffiti should not be classified as a real subcategory of art. Below is the explanation as to why graffiti needs to be considered among the most prestigious and notable art forms.
Graffiti has been around for more than half a decade and practiced worldwide. However there is debate between whether it is a form of art or vandalism. Graffiti artists’ debate that many do not understand the reason most graffiti artist take the risk of incarceration, fines, injuries, and in some cases death to paint a wall. A graffiti artist can have the simple desire to become recognized, or to create a piece that speaks to their audience as a form of self expression. Because graffiti is associated with gangs and acts of destruction to some many cannot see the history and importance graffiti can have on a worldwide scale. Due to the fact that graffiti is usually produced illegally, meaning it is
American Graffiti accurately portrays the
Graffiti is the act of inscribing or drawing on walls for the purpose of communicating a message to the general public. The term comes from the Greek term "Graphein," which means to write. Graffiti has been around since men first started drawing pictures in caves. However, the focus of this paper is not on pre-historic or amateur graffiti, but on the modern hip-hop graffiti movement that began in the late 1960 's. The graffiti has two versions: a "legal" aspect, in which artists are able to spray paintings and murals of great spectacle and technical. The illegal side, is where they express their painting in public spaces such as schools, metros, trains, posters, and wall Streets, etc. Graffiti are a poor choice for people who practiced this objective because it deny people in follow good roads which is seen a bad self-expression and they also may be expensive, putting pressure on low-income families. Controversial, secrecy, and taboo are some points that connect with graffiti argument where graffiti has changed over the years.
Bias-related incidents, including hate speech, are entirely too common at institutions of higher education. When visual expressions of hate speech are found on a campus, the institution’s administrators, as well as staff and students, must quickly condemn the rhetoric, support affected students, and educate others in the community. It is the duty of student affairs professionals within institutions to advocate for students affected by hate speech and to lead the efforts in engaging the community in learning and dialogue surrounding social justice issues in order to prevent such incidents from occurring again. Moreover, it is essential for student affairs
In my opinion I think it can be Graffiti vandalism because it might say bad words and it can say or draw inappropriate things. Also some people are not going to want to visit these paintings because of people writing bad things. People may put offending things of peoples cultures and that could get people upset.
“The whole world is covered in graffiti, no one cares. It’s just part of an urban noise”.
Graffiti is being viewed less as vandalism and more as art. Lately there has been a large push to give painters places to make graffiti without it being illegal and the painters getting in trouble. Many large cities are putting up walls whose sole purpose are to be used for graffiti so the artist have a safe place to express their ideas and not have to worry about being arrested. In many places, especially Detroit, old rundown buildings that are no longer being used are having graffiti sprayed all over them. That shouldn’t be illegal or viewed as vandalism because the building is vacant and will never be used again. If the city allowed people to legally use the building for graffiti the amount of illegal graffiti around the city would go down
Graffiti still counts as vandalism although, it is a law. If you get caught in the act of vandalism, you get charged with vandalism, and must do community service. Even if the graffiti looked like it was done by a picasso, it would still have to be taken down by the authorities. Graffiti is usually taken down by the public and its fundraising. Before graffiti became a better influenced art form, people became afraid of abandoned vandalized subways. Graffiti may be a count of vandalism, but if the artists ask to use the property and own the property, they can use it for their beautiful art. Which I stand with.
As far as her art pieces, they have a very particular detail that make them stand out. When she first started in her career, Graffiti played a major role in her inspiration as well, which caused her to be arrested at the age of 15 for possessing a can of paint. She even joined a graffiti group (Pollack, P. 78), even though she had gone through a rough patch with graffiti in the beginning of her career she still finds it to be an influence for her and she still remains a believer of it. Smith says in an interview “not sick of [her] connection to graffiti ... just sick of how the conversation on graffiti gets framed. People want to simplify it all and say it is just about ‘the streets.’ [Her] experience with graffiti is genuine, but [she] also
New York City's subway walls and ten car trains started to become the ideal forum for kids to get their name known all over the city. This graffiti became famous to the rest of the world in the late 1970's. The subway movement ended in the late 1980's, and, by that time, graffiti had been spread all over the country and throughout the world. Along with the popularity of graffiti, came the commercialization of what and many people in the hip-hop culture kept doing it. Graffiti was typically done by the young and oppressed youth from various ethnic backgrounds as a way of self-expression and release of creativity. Graffiti is a highly individualized style, which is name oriented and personal, and since it's a way of artistic expression, graffiti will never die.
Graffiti can be found everywhere and anywhere. It is a way for people to express themselves and be creative in a public manner. It shows how passionate and talented they can be when it comes to drawing or tagging and have it displayed as a piece of art for everyone to see. Graffiti goes way back to the ancient times and is now very well known in the modern days which makes more and more people interested and fascinated by them. It can be used in different types of ways. Many artists can either spray paint, carve, paste, or stencil them on a surface. From how we see them today they are usually images of random cartoons, big bubbly letters, vintage black and whites or inspirational quotes. Virtually anything colorful or not and big that can be easily spotted. Graffiti is more superior to be known as art than vandalism because it is a self expressing act. People need to be open minded about the images they see and look at the message behind it or else they will immediately criticize and say it is vandalizing property.

The first paper I have selected is my persuasive essay. I chose to argue that graffiti is art,
Graffiti has put a major impact on the way people look at their everyday life. It was not used so much here in the United States but was used overseas. Overseas, graffiti, or street art, was used or played as a sport, just like baseball is Americas sport. There are different laws that are put over there than what there are here. They can get away with some of the things that they paint or make over there. If we tried some of that type of work over here, we would get in trouble and possibly serve time for vandalizing someone else’s property. There are many biased outlooks on graffiti, but it should be considered art in all places because of all the time, effort, and design the artist put into their work.
