The goals of the organization are to create a seamless network of programs and interventions to form holistic, outcome-driven interventions, attract, develop, support and retain highly effective leaders and teams, build and sustain a healthy organizational culture, partner with communities to promote sustainable community-based solutions and advocate for kids and families while strengthen organizational capacity, technology and facilities. Combining the goals and mission the organization has a philosophy to lead, thrive, grow and respect. Currently Graham Windham operates 10 community-based agencies and provides close to 20 educational and social service programs, including family foster care, adoption, child abuse prevention, behavioral supports, after-school, out of school time, education, and mental health to more than 4,500 children and families in New York City’s neediest communities in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Harlem as well as The Graham School Campus, which houses a residential treatment center and a Special Act School …show more content…
The organization is currently divided into three major departments which include numerous sub departments to service families and the community. The three major departments of Graham Windham are family Permanency Planning Services, Family and Community Support Services and The Graham School.
The Family Permanency Planning Services Department provides foster care services providing children with loving foster families utilizing Solution-Based Casework to ensure that safety and well-being of the children and to help parents develop skills and support they need to safely care for their children and also provide permanent alternatives for children whose parents are unable to provide them with a
Families’ needs involve treating families with dignity and respect, no matter what the allegations against them are, and including them in decisions that affect them and their children. Also by using a strengths perspective with families as foster care workers work with them to determining intervention plans for their child(ren), and giving them the same access to resources and services s those available to foster parents. The operative goal of communities is to work with communities to protect children and support families and taking into consideration community safety issues when determining the intervention plan for a child and family.

In my child care setting, I work hard to provide all children with a safe and healthy learning environment. I research and follow strict standards available from the state related to preventing and reducing injury and illness, helping children feel safe, following sound nutrition and fitness practices, and creating an enriching learning environment.

This study looks to expand on the concept of foster parents as professional members of a multidisciplinary team through their engagement in FPM and permanency planning.

Studies about FPM in the foster care system indicates that engagement is an important component to achieving permanency for foster children (Boldis, & Tomlinson, 2014; Crampton, Usher, Wildfire, Webster, & Cuccaro-Alamin, 2011). It has been demonstrated that FPM increases biological family members ' participation in permanency planning (Crampton, Usher, Wildfire, Webster, & Cuccaro-Alamin, 2011; Gladstone et al., 2012; Montserrat, L?pez, Bravo, & del Valle, 2013). The leadership team at New Horizon Academy is a strong and consistent team, as the company has only had two CEO’s in the 45 years that the company has opened (K. Hillyard, Personal Communication, September 18, 2017). In addition, most of their board members have been with New Horizon Academy for over 20 years (K. Hillyard, Personal Communication, September 18, 2017). The purpose of the board is to provide the best child development; in addition, they strive to ensure that they are committed to providing excellent in every aspect of their programs and services they provide for families (K. In the past few decades there has be an increasing amount of children placed in the foster care system. With the amount of rising teen pregnancies and maternal drug abuse means increasing numbers of infants abandoned at birth. There have been many cases of child abuse or neglect that have been on the rise. State and local agencies are unable to suitably supervise foster homes or arrange adoptions. Statistics show that many children will spend most of their childhood and teenage years in the foster care system, which has shown to leave emotional scars on the child. Today, Child Welfare groups are looking for federal funding and legislation to increase programs and services aimed at keeping families together.
A family partnership meeting (FPM) is a “deliberate and structured approach to involving youth and families in decision-making through a facilitated meeting of family, their identified supports and professionals working with the family” (Family Partnership Meetings, 2013). Virginia Department of Social Services uses FPM to engage families in the decision-making process when a child is at risk of coming into foster care, foster home placement disruption, and permanency planning (Family Partnership Meetings, 2013). The chosen population of interest for the course project is children who are placed in foster care. Children in foster care are considered vulnerable due to a variety of reasons for which they are taken away from home and placed in the child welfare system. Foster care children are often removed from their home due to physical abuse, drug exposure, or in some cases due to parental inability to fulfill the child basic necessities. Foster care children are at greater risk of mental, health, and behavioral problems (Lovie, Beadnell, & Pecora, 2015). Case management is an essential part of the care plan to improve the outcomes of the population of interest. Foster care children face additional problems when the health care system is inadequate.

Randall Thigpen is a case manager professional interviewed for this assignment. The introduction and purpose of the interview was done through the phone, but the questionnaire was sent via email. Randall’s official title is Placement Desk Coordinator. Randall provides services to foster care children in the Arapahoe county DHS in Colorado. Although the Randall does not have a nursing degree, eight years of experience working with foster care children was valuable when providing information about the population of interest. Some of the responsibilities include finding a home for children who are removed from their home and their parents or caretakers are regarded as not fit to take care of their children. Other job responsibilities include the supervision of other case workers and to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the child in foster care through continuous assessment of the current placement and adjustments as necessary. Our program provides a great foundation in influencing children’s health, which in turn fosters important areas of development, which children need in order to grow healthy and ready to succeed in school. This involves a joint collaboration between the program, families and the community by providing essential services to the children that include a nutritional meal plan, health and related services such as screenings for children and services for children that are ill.
One way Maurice William’s faces problems in the foster homes is to have a meeting with every foster parent under their program every three months.
