Theme Paragraph of The Great Gatsby The theme class shows the contrast of East Egg- old money vs West Egg- new money. The rank of class defines who Gatsby wants to be in society. In the title The Great Gatsby, the title shows Gatsby as rich, wealthy and high is status, for the purpose of trying to impress Daisy. “[The] next day at five o’clock she married Tom Buchanan without so much as a shiver, and started off on a three months’ trip to the South Seas” (Fitzgerald 75). It was all about status in the 1920’s, even though Daisy was conflicted to marrying Tom because of the letter Gatsby sent her, she still ended up marrying Tom.
