Many people in the world today grow crazy and mad when surrounded by even the slightest bit of wealth and good fortune. Even a strong person who recognizes their priorities can still become corrupt with too much power. There is no better example of a person falling into the path of evil and corruption than in a novel written by John Steinbeck. In the novel The Pearl, by John Steinbeck, the author writes about a poor Indian man named Kino who becomes corrupt from the wealth of a magnificent pearl. Steinbeck uses the motifs of music, light and dark imagery, and values to develop the theme that good fortune, wealth, and prosperity steer even the most innocent of people towards a path of evil and corruption. An allegory is a kind of story in which writer intends a second meaning to be read beneath the surface story. One of the most important allegories ever to be gifted to humankind is Allegory of the Cave. This year will be my first year here at Newton North. Last year, I attended a private school in Brookline. As a freshman there, I took a western civilization history class which started off with the Roman Empire. I enjoy studying history, particularly because of how it can give us perspective about how our modern society came to be. As a result of this, I very much enjoyed this past year’s history class and managed to learn a ton of history. Last year my teacher, Mr. Dore, assigned the class a five-page historiographical analysis of the fall of Rome. This assignment was particularly challenging and allowed me to develop my analytical writing skills. This year in history, I am looking forward to further developing my writing and critical thinking skills as well as, gaining more knowledge of the history of the world.

On his way out, he sees the fire, he sees the puppets, and then he sees the sun. Blinded by the sunlight, he could only stare down to view the shadows cast onto the floor. He gradually looks up to see the reflections of objects and people in the water and then the objects and people themselves. Angered and aware of reality, the freed prisoner begins to understand illusion
I had an experience that each represents the symbol towards the Allegory of the Cave. My childhood was mostly in Jamaica where I lived with my father for two to three years. I can relate to the symbols from the "Allegory of the Cave".
The world can be a dark and cruel place to live… proof of this can be easily determined by watching the news, reading the newspaper, or watching today’s television shows and movies. Every day hundreds of horrendous crimes are committed; murder, kidnapping, child molestation, the list goes on and on. These crimes are sufficient proof that there is enough evil in this world. The death penalty has, and will be an extremely prominent controversial issue worldwide, yet I believe that it is important we remain advocates for the death penalty as it is a vital factor for keeping society under order. it is among the oldest criminal punishments, and has shown its effectiveness if it has stayed around this long. Capital punishment serves 4 general purposes: To punish crime, to prevent repetition of crime, to discourage future crimes, and save the taxpayers lifelong expenses for prison.
