The Greeks held a, for the time, unique point of view on their navy, seeing it as its own independent fighting force, instead of just a way to transport troops across bodies of water. Their long maritime tradition gave them the means and knowledge to easily design technologically advanced ships for specific purposes, giving them the ability to create the most powerful navy of the ancient world. The Greeks used their knowledge to design ships that were propelled by oar-power instead of sails, as oar-powered ships had a much higher degree of maneuverability. With many types of ships like the small, agile triaconters and huge triremes, with bronze rams and full of soldiers ready to board other ships, the Greek navy, when commanded by an able tactician, could easily outfight any opposing force on water, even when highly …show more content…
They created algebra, geometry, and philosophy, in addition to founding physics. Archimedes used physics and geometry to create a number of tools that helped people do more work with less effort, including the pulley and the lever. He also developed the concept of density, so people could tell if they had been cheated by a goldsmith, silversmith, et cetera. If the Greeks had not invented these modern sciences, they may very well never have been created. The consequences of this would be huge, as without pulleys and levers almost no machines could run, or any complicated buildings be built. The important subjects of the modern sciences would not be taught to people around the world today, and there would be a lot less people with the knowledge to make the world the better place it is

Athens believe the cause to their success is because they have philosophy and education, therefore the Athens are able to think before taking action in a war or battle.

Greece: Engineering an Empire, began with a depiction of Greece as city-states that were both self-contained and self-reliant, yet faced the issue of trying to unite disparate city-states; lacking a sense of nationalism. To address this matter, Themistocles cultivated a plan to overthrow the Persian Empire through blockading their army into the Solomon Straits. Conversely, although he made Greece a victorious nation, many viewed him as power hungry and a danger to the political process. As a result, he was exiled from Greece; where later he became an administrator for the Persian King.
