Up above, down below, and in the sea are the three main gods Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. Zeus the gods of the sky and king of all gods youngest of the three, Poseidon the god of the sea, earthquakes, horses, and the oldest of the three, and Hades king of the underworld older than Zeus but not Poseidon. Years ago the brother would have affairs with other women and their children would be very powerful, more powerful than any other child of any of the gods or goddesses. The children of the three would fight Zeus and Poseidon’s children against Hades children. They would cause thousands maybe even millions of dollars of damage. So Hades said “ Zeus, Poseidon our children. They are to powerful. We have to stop. We will make an oath.”The children were too powerful and Zeus and Poseidon knew so they decided to do the oath. An oath …show more content…
Then Zeus said “I should not, no I could not tell anyone about this it would ruin my life, my reputation, and worst of all my brotherhood.”
So much time passed from the time they made the oath and Poseidon the king of the sea said “Maybe they all forgot. Maybe they don’t even remember making that oath.” So he broke it and had a child with both Zeus and Hades not knowing of what would happen if they were to find out. Not long later Hades the king of the underworld, figured out that not one but both of his brothers broke the oath. “They both broke the most important oath that I have made and, and what should I do about it. Maybe I should... no I’m going to tell them I’m going to wait and see if they confess.”
Sure enough they didn’t they didn't want to destroy their friendship. Months and months passed and Hades couldn't stand it anymore. He told them “I know what you have done you both broke the oath and forever you must pay for what you have done.”
Poseidon and Poseidon said “ But,but I would never do that to
Greek gods, the basis of Greek culture and religion, are the center of Greeks’ superstitions and ways to worship. These relate to the god’s origin and their deeds in their myths. Gods can either show jealousy, courage, or kindness to mortals and other gods, so Greeks label the gods based on their qualities. In most circumstances, the Greeks decide whether to worship or despise a god only by whom or what they rule over. For example, Greeks show reluctance in worshipping Hades, the Lord of the Underworld. Greeks hold celebrations and festivities to earn favor from the gods. Greek gods can either have a positive or a negative impact on Greek culture. Most people believe that Hades, an important god in Greek culture, has a negative impact on
Once Zeus was fully grown he returned to his father’s realm and with the help of his mother, hoodwinked Cronus to drink an emetic that made him disgorge his children (Leadbetter). It was these children: Hades, Poseidon, Hestia, Hera and Demeter who helped Zeus wage the Titan war against Cronus. The women titans refused to help Cronus defeat the Olympians and even a few male titans helped aid the Olympians. After ten years of battles, the Olympians were able to banish the Titans into the Underworld (Titanomachy). It was after this war that Zeus seized the throne and divided the sky, the underworld, and the sea amongst him and his brothers. (Hades: the underworld, Poseidon: the sea, and Zeus: the sky.)
her to give him the baby so he could swallow it. She hid Zeus in a
“The supreme deity of Greek mythology has his lusty, tempestuous story recast in engaging fashion by Stone”(ProQuest). Zeus was thought of as the father of gods and men. While he did not make them, he protected them, and therefore was considered a father to them. He ruled over the sky and air, and controlled everything that happened in his domains from his throne on Mount Olympus. To gain his throne, he overthrew his father, Cronos, with the help of his siblings, and then dividing up the realms between him and his two elder brothers. Zeus became lord of the sky and rain, Poseidon took the title lord of the sea, and Hades became ruler of the underworld. He then banished his father to the shadowy Tartarus in the underworld. Zeus was the most
The primary ruling god of the underworld is Hades whose brother is Zeus, king of the gods, and whose parents are Cronus and Rhea. Hades is a greedy god with his greatest concern being to increase the number of his subjects. He is very stubborn about letting
Then the 3 brothers drew for who would rule the Sky, Sea, and The Underworld. Hades got Tartarus. The other gods thought this was a good fit for him because he was quiet and was mysterious among the other gods. (Atsma)
In the time of ancient Greeks many people believed in certain Gods and Goddesses and their mythological stories. Among the many gods and goddesses there was Athena, Goddess of wisdom, crafts, and war. Also there was Apollo, God of the sun, music, healing, prophecy, and poetry. Apollo’s twin sister Artemis Goddess of hunting and archery. Then there’s Poseidon, God of the ocean and brother to the most powerful God of them all, the God of all Gods, Zeus. However, there was only one specific God that mortals and even Gods feared, the brother of Poseidon and Zeus. He was the ruler of the underworld and the dead; he went by the name of Hades.
Hades was born from Cronos and Rhea. Like his other brothers and sisters, hades was eaten by his father but did not die. Although, one baby was hidden away by Rhea, Zeus. Zeus, once grown up, came back to attack Cronos and the titans. He freed his brothers and sisters, letting them escape beginning the war against Cronos and his titans. Once the war was over and the Olympians had won, Hades became the Ruler of the underworld watching over all mortal who had died.
At least Hades defends us when some of the gods were ganging up on us. Poseidon just sits there and Zeus let's everyone disrespect his child if you chose him to be your father. He only speaks up because Ares was being to hyped. Wanting to fight a 17 year old. He should be ashamed of himself with his grown ass.
Meanwhile, in Olympus the Gods see this happening. Zeus calls a meeting of all the gods, but as usual Hades does not show up.
Together the Gods went to war against Cronus and the Titans for ten years, and Cronus was defeated. Having beaten the old gods, Zeus made himself supreme god of the Olympians and most powerful god. The brothers drew straws for domains of the Universe and therefore were divided into three parts. Poseidon became the god of the sea, Zeus became the king of gods, the sky, and heaven and earth and Hades became the god of the underworld.
When Hera found out about Zeus’ dirty deeds, she convinced Semele to ask Zeus for proof of his true nature. Zeus agreed and presented himself to her in his true form, Zeus’ true glory however burned Semele alive. (ML 301) This myth is a prime example of Zeus’ human tendencies of acting like a common man as he gives in to his more primitive needs and cheats on Hera with Semele.
Hades, meaning “the unseen”, was the god of the Underworld. He was the son of Cronus and Rhea and had three sisters, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia, along with two brothers, Zeus and Posedion. This was the family that made up the six original Olympian gods. The Titanomachy was a ten year divine war between Titans and the Olympians. This war was fought to determine which generation of gods would have rule over the universe. The war concluded with the victory of the Olympians, subsequently the three brothers cast lost for the kingdoms. Posiedon took over the seas, Zeus took over the sky, and Hades took over the infernal lands of the Underworld. The Underworld, the realm in which the souls of the dead come to rest, is described as a very daunting place. Many myths state that Hades was disappointed with his turnout but had no other choice than to become ruler of the land. Hades is depicted as a very stern and cold ruler, but he was more or less thought of as passive rather than evil. His primary focus was to ensure that no soul ever left the Underworld. Alongside him was his wife and queen, Persephone, who he acquired at the behest of Zeus by abducting her.
Hades, the evil genius, is out to seek revenge on the other Gods because he feels he is unappreciated and powerless, compared to his all mighty brother Zeus and other family members. At the beginning of Hercules, Hades was simply a mistreated God who Zeus had selfishly forced to be the God of the Underworld; a dreadful, miserable place where souls go to suffer. Hades rarely has an important role in the lives of the other Gods, who spend their time living on Olympus; a wonderful and lively kingdom. Hades is jealous of the fortune of the other gods living on Olympus. He states, “but unlike you gods lounging about up here...I regrettably have a full-time gig...that you, by the way, so charitably bestowed on me” Hades is the ruler of the underworld, as he calls it, a dark and gloomy place, as well as, always full of dead people. So he feels he has been treated unfair and deserves more. Unfortunately there is no way to change this fact, unless you are Hades of course. Hades, being the evil genius he is, has a plan to take revenge on the Gods. In this plan he intends to destroy Olympus and rule the Gods forever. Because Hades is less fortunate than the other Gods, he is very overlooked by them. He feels that he has been put in a place where he cannot truly be a
One of which Perculus was the “acting” head god. There was concern about Hades and Zeus but not to the point of panicking. After a week the three gods decided to check on Zeus and Hades, but little did they know that they too were scheming a plan to reverse the reign of power. When the three gods got back to Hades underworld they were seized and left there while the power was again changed.
