The earliest form of soccer was in the second and third centuries, B.C., in China. Back then, they called the game Tsu’ Chu and the goals were only measuring 30-40cm in width. Another form of the game is the Japanese Kemari, which began 500-600 years later than the Chinese. This isn't ordinary soccer. Standing in a small circle, the players had to pass the ball to each other trying not to let it touch the ground (citation). The Greek Episkyros was played out with a smaller ball by two teams on a rectangular field marked by boundary lines and a center line. The objective was to get the ball over the opposition's boundary lines and as players passed it between themselves. The game remained popular for 700-800 years, but the Romans took it to
Not much is known about the origin of soccer. However, the Greeks and Romans played football and ball kicking games. The London Football Association developed the first sets of rules in 1863. British sailors and settlers brought the game to India, South America and Europe.
Tracings of records show that the sport of soccer has been around for more than 2,000 years to Ancient China. That’s a long time. The sport really caught on effect from England. Many countries caught on to this game, including Greece, Rome, And parts of central America.
The first soccer ball was a rubber soccer ball made of pig or ox bladder with leather in the 1800s (The Science of Soccer, 1998). At that time it was difficult to make a regular shaped ball and maintain it while playing. By the 1900s most soccer balls were made of
U.S soccer started when the English settlers came to populate America. The game was originally played across an entire town with two nets at either end. Players tackled each other to get the ball to one end of the town and in a
The history of soccer started long ago and has transformed over time. It will continue to transform for as long as it is played internationally. Soccer evolved in Modern Europe from the 9th Century (“Crocombe”). As far back as 300 B.C., Chinese military played a gamed that was really familiar to soccer called “Cuju”. This was a sport
Soccer originated with kicking games played by people in ancient civilizations. The modern version came about in the early nineteenth century, in England. It started as a game involving kicking and handing, but later this branched off into two separate sports: rugby and football (which is what the English call soccer). Around
Everything starts as a young kid that's when you make friends and most of the time those friends are the ones you experience and try new things with in my case that thing was soccer. I grew up with a lot of my older family members playing soccer i would go to my uncles and older cousin soccer games and in my head i would think to myself i want to be as good as them and maybe even one day have a chance to play with them. When i started elementary school that's when it all started for me i made friends with kids that had the same interest as me and that was soccer it would be all i would talk and think about everyday during recess me and my group of friends would rush out to the field to play some soccer and show off our skills.
For centuries, the activity of the sport seemed to become lost, but there was a resurgence of the sport around the year of 1815, This is where many of the modern rules that are set in place today came into focus. A couple of college universities brought forth a system of rules for the sport which were known as the Cambridge Rules, the original official set of rules for the game. The game had been created with two versions, one in which later became known as rugby, while the other kept the traditional soccer style that many have come to love and enjoy. There was no concrete foundation of soccer until about the year of 1869 when the Football Association banned any type of ball handling with the hands. This is the first look at globalization. British sailors, soldiers,
The soccer history dates back to more than thousands of years ago to the ancient China. Later, countries such as Greece, Central America as well as Rome have claimed to have been the origin of soccer. However, England is the country that have developed soccer to what we know today as football. Britain was the first country to develop the initial rules on uniform for soccer as well as stopping players from tripping their opponents and using their hands to touch the ball unless one was the goalkeeper. More rules have been developed and more landmarks set as the sport developed. For instance, according to the FIFA website, the penalty kick was first introduced in 1891 (Huggins, 2007). The yellow and red cards were
As time evolved, the ball was eventually made out of a leather material. With this leather material, the ball became more durable and controllable. The rules back in the Renaissance were way different than the rules today. During the Renaissance, the game was commonly played between two streets, 27 men played on each side, and there were no strict rules or penalties. These rules impacted today’s in many different ways. Today, a field is 100 yards long and 60 yards wide. There are only 11 players on each team, and there are many strict rules. If it were not for the Renaissance period, Soccer would have never evolved into the great sport that many people love today. Many people enjoyed this sport during the Renaissance, which led to the popularity of the sport today. “Soccer is probably the most popular sport in the world, though it is most popular in European, African, and Latin American nations” (“Soccer”). Just like soccer, another sport that greatly influenced the modern day was Lawn Bowling.
It regained support in the nineteenth century as many prestigious schools in England started playing it, albeit each school with different rules. Finally, in 1863, the Football Association was established and a clear set of rules were created for the game. What perhaps started out as an exercise used by the Chinese became a full-fledged sport, and afterwards began to rapidly evolve. Professionalism was instated by 1885, and the creation of the beautiful game of soccer that is watched by millions today was well on its way.
Every idea has a start and a history that can be traced back in time. An incredible amount of these ideas and thoughts were started by great ancient civilizations. These ancient civilizations are the base of all modern knowledge. No ancient civilization has contributed more to this base than the civilization of Ancient Greece. The unique ways of ancient Greek agriculture have left a profound influence on the agriculture of today.
Greek and Roman cultures are still prevalent in life today. These two cultures have drastically influenced my life in the areas of athletics, cosmetics, and politics.
The original ancient Olympic Games can be followed back to 776 B.C although per Homer’s Iliad they may have existed as early as the twelfth century BC. The Games proceeded for twelve centuries and were devoted to Olympian deities. Olympia turned into the site of these memorable ancient Olympic games that scattered the seeds for the most desired global sporting events of current times, the Modern Olympics. The location of the Ancient Olympics is situated in the western piece of Peloponnese. As per Greek mythology, Peloponnese is the island of Pelops, the Founder of the Olympic Games. The Ancient Olympic Games were sustained until 393 A.D when Emperor Theodosius I of Rome discontinued them. There were not any Olympic games for fifteen hundred years before they were resurrected in 1896 in the city of Athens. The man in charge of its resurrection was a Frenchman named Baron Pierre de Coubertin, who introduced the thought in 1894. His innovative idea was to uncover the present-day Games in 1900 in his local Paris, however appoints from 34 nations were so captivated with the idea that they persuaded him to move the Games up to 1896 and have Athens serve as the main host.
