This summer, I had the incredible opportunity of taking part in a program called Greek Summer, run by the American Farm School in Thessaloniki, Greece. This program takes its participants on a vast physical and personal journey throughout Greece, including hands-on lessons on agriculture, a home stay in a rural Greek village, and a tour around the most important archeological sites of the country. It was on odyssey of personal examination and growth, as well as a unique social experience that pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best of ways.
Greek Summer was very important to me because it was a test of my independence and social skills, as I was sent off to a foreign country in a group with 20 other kids I had never met. It was my very first hours with this group of fresh faces that I feel connects well to

Just as Ender “was afraid, and fear made him serious,” I was as serious as a Greek statue. When I’m nervous, I get extremely quiet and stoic, speaking only when I have to and laughing only when everyone else does. I felt just like Ender, overwhelmed by a new group of kids who were joking and laughing while I felt too nervous to barely crack a smile. And perhaps I felt an immense weight on my shoulders, as I was going to Greece on a full scholarship granted by an anonymous donor on the board of the Farm School, and my brother had done the same trip last year and been a wonderful, happy, and social member of the group. All in all, I had some great expectations to live up to, and with all that weighing on my mind I found it hard to be as jovial and personable as I hoped to be. This is where I feel my connection to Ender: he’ll be a hero, the pride of his family, but only if he lives up to the huge expectations people have of him, and as all the other boys are having fun at the Battle School, Ender has too much else on his mind to think about

The Aegean Sea lies to the east of the mainland, the Ionian Sea
War has affected the lives of humans for hundreds of years now and is a major result and contributing factor to the absence of peace. The greek god Ares, who established his power through war, was a major contributor to the physical and emotional toll on the ancient Greeks . His control over wars made impact to the outcome of the wars. It also determined the level of peace during his time. Without Ares, ancient Greece would not have been filled with hatred and would have been more peaceful.
Ender is different from the other boys because he wasn’t laughing and joking around like they were. Ender couldn’t recall any jokes, and theirs didn’t seem funny to him. “He was afraid, and fear made him serious.” (Card, page 28) Ender seems like the outsider of the group. He is acute and reserved, while the other boys are boisterous and rowdy.
During 490-479 BC the Empire of Persia had series of conflicts with Greek-City States. One of the pivotal moments in the Persian war was the battle of Thermopylae. The battle of Thermopylae took place in Greece, it started when Darius the king of Persia sent emissaries to Greece asking for land and water as an acceptance to his submission. The Spartans didn’t accept the offer and threw them down a well as a form of execution. This meant that they were effectively at war with Persia. Bernard Knox explains the actions that caused the battle, and the battle itself in an excerpt from a book called The Novel Book of Classical Literature . In this
Ender’s Game is a novel about kids getting stripped of their childhood in order to be tested to see if the kids have enough intelligence and skills to go to the battle school. Futuristic Ender ha those skills and he is sent to battle school in order to become the next big leader and soldier. Card characterizes Ender as this altruistic child in order to reveal how isolating a juvenile can make them listen to others ideas and have magnificent listening skills. Using direct and indirect characterization, Card uses Ender’s thoughts, emotions, and body language to convey to his readers that not all the isolated kids end up like Graff or Peter personality-wise, they’re not these narcissistic people who think they are the biggest and strongest when they’re really not.
During this even I learned that without organizations like Give 365 the community wouldn’t function in the way it does. This organization gives children in the community a safe place to spend their time. In class we have learned that getting involved in campus is very important, the event I attended did just that it got me involved, I met new people, and I gave back to the community. This event relates to my “why” because my parents have always encouraged me to be a better person and strive to succeed in life, attending the Community Plunge helped me do just that. Attending the Community Plunge was not out of the ordinary for me I love volunteering and getting the satisfaction of helping others. Outside of class I have been involved in many service projects at home including; mission trips, attending food drives, and volunteering at homeless shelters. Being involved in Community Plunge and volunteering at Give 365 will greatly impact my college experience because of these events I will continue to volunteer on campus and in the community. I will use what I learned in the future by continuing to volunteer and encourage others to as

For this report, I will write a reflection concerning society in ancient Greece. I will include information pertaining to the lives of those who lived in ancient Greece and what their daily lives consisted of. Social issues and political philosophy will also be discussed along with other material that is considered significant to ancient Greek society. This concludes my introduction. When did Ancient Greece exactly flourish and how?
In 490 BC, Greece defeated the Persian invaders at the famous Marathon. And in 480, Persian warriors suffered heavy losses in the Salamis. These battles have confirmed the mighty military power of Greece. Under the reign of King Alexander the Great of Macedonia, the Greeks had extensive expansions to Egypt, Persia and India. His conquests led to the settlement and dominance of the Greeks in many remote and influential Greek cultures that were more widespread than ever. This period is called the Greek Period. Later, when the Roman Empire was established and became mighty, Greece became a Roman province but the cultural influences of ancient Greece were maintained and developed.
There are many are many time periods and phases in the world like the roman empire, american revolution era, pre columbian african and many more. Greece was a beautiful country of the arts. Ancient Greece’s time was around 2000 to 30 B.C.E. Ancient Greece’s people had to deal with mountainous lands, making it hard to live there. Though these causes were against them, they survived and had beautiful and dramatic plays, arts, and architecture. Greece had many wonderful and terrible leaders, and took over much of the ancient world.. Greece had a very rich religion, counting up thousands of gods. Greece also was known for their arts, from pottery to dramatic plays.
The earliest Greek civilization thrived around 4,000 years ago. Some of the things that they had we still use today, such as art, science, math, literature, and politics. The Greeks were known for their great intelligence, military strategies, and their architectural skills. All Greek's spoke the same language. This was done to make trade easier and to be able to communicate between different parts of the country. Even though everyone spoke the same language the Greek language had three different dialects which were Aeolic, Doric and Ionic. These three different dialects came about from the three tribes around the country. All Greeks believed in the same gods, who were a big part of their culture. The Greek government was not a monarchy
“Greek civilization is alive; it moves in every breath of mind that we breathe; so much of it remains that none of us in one lifetime could absorb it all.” Ancient Greeks are known to be one of the greatest and most advanced people and have left behind a legacy that helped define the Western civilization. Cultural diffusion helped spread Greek culture all over the world, and its effects can still be felt today in almost every aspect. Greek culture has greatly affected different parts of my daily life including architecture, food, government, inventions, music, religion, and education.
The Greek Miracle was a revolution of thought that swept over Greece during a time of confusion and fear of the unknown. During this time period, “mankind realized what mankind was,” and the people of Greece began to change what had been originally thought and done. Although the exact time of when this period took place is unknown, the ripple effect has been crucial to the world today. “The world became rational” in the most irrational way.
Throughout the book Ender grows and changes as a person. In the beginning of the book, Ender can be seen as anxious, or immature. This is shown on page 29, Ender is wanting the comfort of his family during the lauch. This is very similar to the way that a child going to school for the very first time acts. This is because of the abrupt changes happening in both scenarios. As the book goes on, Ender realizes that not only is he smart, but that he is also a player in the School's game. At times, Ender feels as if he is unwanted, or that he needs to cry. Realizing that he is an immediate target if he is caught crying, Ender controlls his emotions, and moves on by keeping his emotions hidden. By the end of the book, Ender has matured as a person.
