Greendale Middle School: Case Study

Education: Makiyah attends Barack Obama Green Charter High School in Plainfield. According to Ms. Mitchell, Makiyah is classified special education. When CM asks Ms. Mitchell what is Makiyah’s classification she could not remember. Ms. Mitchell also informs CM that Makiyah is doing well in school and she will be moving to mainstream classes sometime this month. Makiyah reports that she enjoys attending school and at this time her grades are good and she is not having any issues in any of her classes.

It’s no secret that Leaguetown High School’s students are statistically unhealthier than those of the average American high school. While recognizing this problem, I believe that the current proposal to limit food options and increase food prices in an effort to counteract this trend is completely the wrong way to solve it.

The events that took place at Washington High Schools have caused a division between the students, teachers and administration. While some support the decision the principal has made to suspend the students for their untasteful talent show performance, others question its effectiveness. Shortly after the suspension, the students began segregating themselves and exchanging racial comments. The situation has escalated out of control and it has become a political one; leaders of the African American community want to discuss the talent show protest and are demanding a meeting with the principal.

High School is an incredibly important period of life. It influences your social, academic, and personal life for four years, and prepares you for college and a career. This is the reason County Prep High School is my school of choice. Last year, at Kingsland High School’s Graduation Ceremony, Josie Hinze not only receiveed her High School Diploma, but also her Associates of Arts Degree before even attending any college or university. Fast-forward to one year later, and seven Kingsland students will be graduating high school with both their High School Diploma and AA Degree thanks to the collaboration of Riverland Community College and Kingsland High School for allowing high school students to take college-level courses in high school and receive college credit for them. Communication within the Westside School District No. 5 between the school district and the communities and families that it serves is a very dynamic process. I talked with district administrators, community members, researched pertinent information in the Arkansas State University library, and various governmental online sources and found very helpful information to include in this sociological inventory. Westside Consolidated School District No. 5 is a consolidation of primarily three school districts Bono, Cash and Egypt located in Craighead County, Arkansas in 1966 (Westside, 2017). In the hypothetical case, the Rockshire High School official had reasonable cause to search Britney Sullivan’s cell phone for evidence that she and other students cheated on their AP History exam. The administrator suspects Britney because (1) the students scored extremely high on the AP History test (2) Britney has been in trouble in the past and is in the AP History class and (3) a teacher received a reliable tip from another student describing how the students cheated using social media. According to the Supreme Court case (New Jersey v. TLO, 469 U.S. 325 (1985).) the school administrator had the right to search the contents of the student's cell phone, since the administrator had reasonable cause to suspect the student of school policy infractions. The court’s decision in this case is that the student officials do not hold the same accountability of the police under search and seizure. Police are held to the strict accountability of probable cause while school officials according to the Supreme Court have only to prove reasonable cause. In this hypothetical case the supreme court would support the decision of the Rockshire High School administration to search a student's cell phone as evidence for cheating based on the fact that the administrator had evidence to support reasonable cause. Saegertown has a new sheriff in town, and his name is Mr. Brian Lipps. On Friday, Dec. 16, Mr. Lipps was announced as the new Dean of Students for Saegertown High School, and his first day was Monday, Dec 19. It is expected that Mr. Lipps will officially be announced at the next board meeting on Jan.12. Most students have already noticed his presence. “It’s different. They [students] are more aware they can get into trouble and have to follow the rules more so they will behave,” said freshman Meadow Campbell.

I teach in the Westside Consolidated Number Five School District in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The school district is a consolidation of three small rural town school districts Bono, Egypt, and Cash, Arkansas in 1968. I met with my mentor Mr. Scott Gaunt the school district superintendent on January 18, 2017 between meetings with district leaders and countywide superintendents. We met and discussed the community relations plan and identified the two most important issues for our district as identified in the poll by the Phi Delta Kappan and the Gallop poll. The issues were the lack of financial support for the school district to provide an adequate education for students and the testing and regulations imposed on school districts that lower educational time for students while in school.

Leaguetown Independent School District is currently facing a conflict of whether having later start times would perhaps help the improvement of academic performance of Leaguetown Middle School and high school students. Superintendent Judith Owens has proposed a new schedule that would set later start times. A group of Leaguetown Middle School parents has organized to oppose the proposal.

On Wednesday, April 12, 2017, I, Officer McDaniel #147, while at James Coble Middle School, located at 1200 Ballweg Rd, Arlington, TX, I was approached by Assistant Principal Myers, Laura, W/F, DOB 02/16/1968, in reference to a cell phone screen that was broke by another student.

1. ) With new technology such as Satellites scanning the surface of the earth, cartographers can use geographic information science or (GIS) to help them make more detailed and accurate maps. This has allowed scientists to get very precise and complex information from all of the data coming from the satellite orbiting around the earth at all different distances and angles. Another use for all of the Satellites is remote sensing, this allows satellite images to be scanned in thin lines any time a satellite could scan a small area or a pixel. With this we can look at very small features of earth from space and removals send it back down to earth for Analysis. Assistant Principal (AP) will be entering the community on October 01, 2016 to partner with parents of students that attend Silverado High School. The AP would like to communicate with parents that Silverado has an educational competitive environment that needs to stay healthy and safe. Our staff is committed to making their classroom rigorous and challenging. Students will be held accountable to hard work, perfect attendance, and high disciplinary structure. We are proclaiming that all student's with the help and support of our community will attend a college, career technical program, vocational program, and/or be highly qualified to enter a career after graduation. Madison began the Commack Middle School in the 6th Grade. She continued to receive integrated co-teaching services daily. She also received a special skills class daily for 40 minutes, individual counseling services twice a month for 30 minutes, special seating arrangements, refocusing and redirection, check for understanding, copy of class notes, and extended time. Vision consultation services were provided in the classroom once a month for 45 minutes. In 2014, Madison’s parents considered moving her to a non-integrated class, however she continued to have this support in the 7th Grade. During 7th grade, Madison made improvements with her visual-spatial skills by using open space more effectively; however it was noted on her IEP that providing her lines to write on offered her the best support.
