Interaction patterns throughout the group were definitely different peer to peer and each participant had different ways of interacting with one another. There were a few factors thrown in that influenced that interaction patterns. The relationship between the members was one of the main influences. These girls seemed to truly love each other and acted as though there were sisters, and their instructor Dominque was the mother. This was largely due to the amount of time that goes into the group and the time they spend together. The nature of their group goals was all similar as well, thus creating a steady bridge for the girls to progress on. The leadership within the group helped influence the interaction patterns as well. The dancers looked up to Dominque so much, so they were willing to do anything she said. The way they interacted with her was as though she was their role model, and truly someone they idealized. Since Dominique took on such a maternal role, she was able to provide both stern and playful group interaction influences. The size of the group also highly effected their interactions within the group because they were not a huge group. They had lots of …show more content…
They were attentive when they watched Dominque show them a dance and were very precise when she demonstrated what to do and how to do it. We felt as though they were open with each other because before and after classes we heard two girls talking about some things such as boys and what to do about a certain boy. They truly loved each other and trusted each other enough to help them with their personal lives. Therefore, this investment in each other's personal lives allows for more relaxed communication styles. The dancers were also extremely friendly to one another. Group hate did not occur at all when we were in the setting of their dancing, and for this reason no conflict arose and no hostility was
Watching a video of a dance piece called “The Moroccan Project,” choreographed by Alonzo King was quite impressive. Living in San Francisco and taking dance classes brought me to Lines Ballet which is King’s dance studio. I have seen a great deal of different types of dance at the studio waiting for my Ballet classes and there are some great dancers. It comes as no surprise that Alonzo would have such great dancers. It appears that Alonzo King is exploring different cultures in dance in Contemporary Ballet. His near-perfect choreography is articulate, passionate, and graceful- he brings diversity in dance to San Francisco and other parts of the world. This piece articulates the expression of the two dancers coming together yet dancing apart at times- it is a fusion of several different types of dances into one using video editing to create a story about the coming together of two individuals.
Learning is the individual growth of person and new understanding around us as a result of cooperative interaction and sharing the experiences with others. I will start describing what I learnt from interaction in pair and group after detailing how I met my partner and group. I met my partner Nuttanun on Wednesday July 8, 2015 virtually because we both were not able to attend the first class due to rescheduling issue. She approached me by email and we exchanged our phone numbers. We decided to meet in person on Thursday at 6:00 pm to understand and discuss the class we missed. We introduced each other and talked about our profession and personal lives for about an hour and then we discussed the reading material given to us. We discussed it for more than 30 minutes. After discussion we decided to fill out Engaging Across Differences sheet and passed on to each other. On Friday, we met again to answer our discussion board questions and talked about our plans for weekends. My group consist of four members
In my opinion, group work is a type of cooperative learning that helps people to accomplish a certain task in a faster and more effective manner. Team working also helps to achieve the tasks that are impossible to finish by one individual. However, if people in a group have a lot of conflicts, group work will not be able to achieve as much as we expected. There are many reasons which lead to dissatisfaction in group work such as individualism as well as conflicts in opinion and time.
attention towards her and her ability’s. She then began to compare her dancing to audience’s
There are lots of people around the U.S who who do not understand the hard struggle of people from other countries. Lots of people make stereotypes about Asian people, Latinos, and people from Arabic countries. People would normally assume that if you are asian, you speak Chinese or Japanese, or that you paint nails, or own a “Chinese food” restaurant.
The symbolic interaction theory relates how individuals correlate actions and items to symbols they create. This association takes place between humans and the society they live in. Individuals can have the same situation going on, but associate different meaning through symbols of how they view what is going on. It is important to note that individuals will act differently based on the meaning of the interaction for the people or things around them. There is also a huge component of the symbolic interaction theory that takes into consideration how individuals think they are perceived. “In symbolic interactionism, this is known as "reflected appraisals" or "the looking glass self," and refers to our ability to think about how other people will think about us” (Boundless, 2015). This will also govern the symbols that we associate with different groups of people that we will encounter.
Everyone is part of a dominant or subordinate group. Both groups are similar because they label the targeted group. However, both groups are completely different from each other. The dominant groups distinguish people who are privileged, while subordinate is for people who are underprivileged. As I reflected on my past I discovered I was part of a subordinate do to my ethnicity and dominant group because of my sexuality. Being a heterosexual Mexican women comes with some costs and benefits.
The video Latin Music USA, relates to our class watching the video I am able to say I can do some of the moves they do! Our class relates to this video because they talk a lot about community and being able to connect to another, I think our class connects us to others we generally would not associate with. They talk about when the Fania All Stars would perform the energy from both the stage and the audience was tremendous and people did not want to sit, I think this relates to our class because before the class even starts people are dancing trying to further perfect the way they dance.
A negative aspect of my approach to this project was that in the beginning, I expected too much from the girls, the fairly basic choreography was too difficult for ‘non-ballerinas’ to achieve the correct technique, we had to simplify it in order for them to look good. At times I let my stress affect me, it was difficult to cope with the pressure. Sometimes I allowed myself to be frustrated, either with girls missing rehearsals or if they were being lethargic at practice, and that was not good for me or anyone
An important part of our learning and growing experience must stem from our ability to analyze and reflect upon the groups that we have been members in. This reflection can define our understanding of the weaknesses both in ourselves and in the others within our group; and it can help to shape the way that we act in future groups. Adjusting ourselves to compensate for our weaknesses, based upon an honest and thorough examination of our actions within a group setting, is one of most important thing for any person to do. It is only through this evaluation that we can improve ourselves and our interactions with others. This paper will examine a group that was required to make an important decision about adding a new member
In this paper I will examine the social structure theory, along with its definition and how the different types of theories make up the social structure theory. I will also attempt to discuss the strain, culture conflict, and social disorganization theory all of which make up the social conflict theory. I also wish to discuss the video “Tent City, Arizona” and answer the following questions, “How does the video you selected support a social structure theory? What is the primary subject or content of the video? What social issues are raised in the video? What major principles of sociological theory are addressed in the video? What might be some possible ramifications for social policy change?”
I have always observed and admire the way my daughter’s dance class instructor maintain a relationship with all the dancers. She is fully aware of how each child operate and therefore runs the class in such a way to avoid disruptions and distractions. For example separating the talkative friends from each other without making it seem like a consequence. She may say something like “I like the way how you move your arms so gracefully so I want you to stand over here where everybody can see you”. It is somewhat funny to see how the talkative child immediately transforms as they try to perform at their fullest potential because they are now trying to set a good example for the rest of the class.
At this point, I have been here several weeks. I have become friends with most of the girls, but especially with Angel. I also get along well with Rochelle, Candy, and Sky. Not their real names, of course. There is a group of other dancers that seem to hang out together and keep to themselves. They say hi to me when they walk in, but that’s about the extent of our relationships. It can get a little “bitchy” in here with the majority of employees being women. I tend to be viewed as a neutral party since I’m not a direct threat to the other dancers. Inside the club, the competition tends to be a little fierce, and sometimes it’s so catty I’m happy I sit on the outside.
The communication in the group appears to be inconsistent and does appear to harmful to some of the members. Certain members of the group are communicating verbally, others are communicating nonverbally and their behaviors are sending out intended and possibly unintended messages that is impacting the rest of the group in a negative way. Therefore, members may not feel comfortable talking about feelings, problems, or other issues within the group. In this case study Luisa, appears to be a main factor of why people are shutting down. As there is interference with groups communication based on anger, fear, and uncertainly. She appears to be provoking a response for attention or disapproval to perhaps gain or maintain power within group.
Intergroup dynamics refers to the behavioural and psychological relationship between two or more groups. This includes perceptions, attitudes, opinions, and behaviours towards one’s own group, as well as those towards another group. This means that this will have an impact on the group’s effectiveness.
