Growing up in The Gambia, one of the poorest countries in Africa, Education was the only way out of poverty. My village did not have electricity or water. My family was not wealthy, but so as many other families. We usually eat twice a day that is breakfast and lunch. I could remember asking my mom why we do not eat at night, her reply was people do not eat at night. Education was a no go area for the people living in my village. The closest school to where I lived was about 15 miles away.

It was late one evening as usual, we all gather at the fireplace to get warm and listen to stories. I was seven years old and I should have been in the nursery one or two. I ask my mom to enroll me to a school. She replied by telling me that
