After taking the mindset quiz I discovered I have a growth mindset. I was not initially surprised by the result, knew where I stood on terms of being open or closed minded when it comes to people's intelligence and abilities; however I've never had a name for it and I was surprised to learn the benefits of having a growth mindset. Furthermore, I've never thought of about how it would apply to teaching (rather than teaching my own children) prior to taking the quiz. Now that I've considered the options I believe that it could potentially be detrimental for students if their teacher has a closed mindset. I believe this because, if a teacher thinks a struggling child has no chance for improvement due to born intelligence or skill, then they will
Last year, on our football team we had disagreements with each other instead of walking away from the situation they got into a fight it was stupid because there are both leaders of the team and the coaches had to break it up which made it immature. These players had a fixed mindset. In the book Mindset, Carol Dweck explains that There are two mindsets a fixed mindsets and growth mindsets the growth mindsets makes a mistake and learn from their mistakes. A fixed mindset is when you make a mistake and u keep on doing it.The football team should develop a growth mindset .
A wise person said, “you don’t grow through success, you grow through what you go through.” The book, Mindest written by Carol S. Dweck, examines how the fixed and growth mindset leads to generating the motivations and conduct of individuals. This book is essential because it educates people on the notion of self- improvement in regard to learning, acquiring, and improving relationships with others as there is always room for progress. A growth mindset is very favorable in regard to improving love, family, friendships, and parenting relationships through many aspects. To begin, a growth mindset helps to enhance a relationship through forgiveness, respect, and self-improvement.
Reading the article and watching the video was very interesting, definitely an eye opener on the world of making mistakes and how we, as a society, view it. In my opinion, the growth mindset is simply a way of thinking that allows one to be open to learning from mistakes and taking a risk instead of “playing it safe”. It’s all about growth as a person, if you stick to the sidelines and do everything exactly how you know how to do it you can never experience and learn from life. I feel like this can be incorporated into my learning process by simply being open to failure. Just because I don’t necessarily do good on something doesn’t mean I have to be hard on myself, I need to analyze what I did wrong and educate myself on how to not make
Goals, dreams, and commitments, all have one thing in common, they need to have the right mindset to be accomplished. The definition of mindset used by many professors and is stated as, “A fixed mental attitude or disposition that predetermines a person's responses and interpretations of situations.” Mindset isn't fixed though; even though most people associate the word ‘fixed’ when referring to mindset. The “growth mindset” argues this definition used by the majority of people. The growth mindset is a “simple idea” articulated by, Stanford University psychologist, Carol Dweck. She researched the idea of achievement and success; a simplified concept that allowed her to come across this philosophy.
A growth-mindset classroom community allows students to be rewarded for showing effort and progress towards challenging learning tasks (Dweck, 2010).
When reflecting on my progress to date, I believe I am exhibiting a growth mindset. The reason I feel as though I am exhibiting a growth mindset is because making the transition from high school to college, I knew there would be challenges and I will have to adjust myself to the college life and actually be on my own. In college, I knew my education would continue and that I will be learning way harder lessons than in high school. The work load would be more overwhelming, instead of me going to sleep at 11:30 pm, I found myself going to sleep at like 2 or 3:00 am in the morning due to me typing up a paper.
(introductory paragraph—select the green type and type your revised introduction here) Do you have a growth mind set and if you do how do you know? A growth mindset means you can fix your mistakes and improve from them but there's also an opposite of that, there is also fixed mindset meaning you believe you can't fix or learn from your mistake and go downhill from there. Scientist studied it for years and found out that it is true it's called neuroplasticity meaning you can grow your brain like a muscle. A growth mindset plays an important role in creating a strong brain.
Carol Dweck’s theory is about fixed mindset and growth mindset. Firstly, in a fixed mindset students believe their basic abilities, their intelligence, their talents, are just fixed traits. On the other hand, growth-mindset is about achieving mastery and competence; the person believes that superb personal qualities can be learned, developed or cultivated. Therefore, those with a "fixed mindset" believe that abilities are mostly innate and interpret failure as the lack of necessary basic abilities, while those with a "growth mindset" believe that they can acquire any given ability provided they invest effort or study.
There are different types of mindsets, a growth mindset, and a fixed mindset. Everyone has either a growth mindset or a fixed mindset. It is the way the people think and react to different things. People with a growth mindset they embrace challenges. They take and learn from the criticism that they receive. People with a fixed mindset, they give up. They avoid taking challenges. They avoid any kind of criticism even the useful kind. A growth mindset helps and develops your intelligence. Failing helps you grow. Looking at challenges and going through with them help you grow.
I haven’t necessarily seen a fixed mindset amongst my LCS class. They are very lively and most of them independent and secure of their skills. Nevertheless, I believe to a certain extent we all have a mixture of fixed and growth mindset in different aspects of our lives. Our mindset is directly linked to our perspective, which at the same time is deeply rooted in our upbringing. This include how our parents raise us, our education and society as a whole. Therefore, having a more inclined fixed mindset could be related to bad experiences in school, home or any other interaction within society.
You won’t be seeking friendship with those who would be tickling your ears by singing your praises or excessively commending you just because that’s what you like to hear. You won’t appreciate any who is cultivating pride in you by shoring up your feeling of self-esteem. Rather you’ll love to move with friends who’ll challenge you to grow. Your growth mindset will prompt you to go for experiences that’ll stretch you instead of the often-repeated ones.
Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. How much effort you put in is how much you get back. You can’t study and get a grade you don’t won’t. Grit and growth mindset, are the key to life. You can master both of these things with the right amount of effort.
Growth mindset, executive function, and empathy are three habits of mind that can help people achieve their goals. If you have a growth mindset it means that you feel that you can always improve with whatever you do. The brain is like a muscle because muscle can get stronger and your brain can get stronger. You need persistence with this process because you need to keep at it until you have completed your goal rather than giving up. The skateboarding video is an example of a growth mindset because the boy failed so many times and got hurt badly but he never gave up. He finally landed the trick but it took him 2 years. Having a growth mindset you can compete things and say that you never gave up even when things got hard. I have a growth mindset
A person with a growth mindset in math is very different from a person with a fixed mindset. Someone with a growth mindset in math will most likely learn more than someone with a fixed mindset. Having a growth mindset in math allows you to learn new things and expand your knowledge.
There’s a saying that everyone’s said at least once in their lifetime, I’m sure. It’s so cliché, but now I know that there is so much truth behind it. “Believe in yourself.” Rather than giving up on yourself, use your failures to make you better. Learn how to bounce back from adversity and learn from those experiences. This is called using your growth mindset. According to Carol Dweck, research psychologist, in her book Mindset, “In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work—brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.” It wasn’t until the summer between my junior and senior year of high school that I learned this and of course I learned it the hard way. I had played club basketball for four summers in a row with the Longmont Rush basketball club. I loved the game of basketball and I had spent countless hours working on my skills on the court. I even wanted to play in college. I already had schools scouting me. Unfortunately, in my final season, just before my senior year, my biggest fear came true.
