Guest Speaker response Both A and N stories were interesting to hear. They are both good friends and sister in laws and that relationship helps both of them to stay sober. They call each other out on their crap. I think having guest speakers in class helps put a face to what we have been discussing and learning about this semester. To what addiction is and how it plays out in real life and in families. I would never had guessed that they had drug problems if I walked passed them in Target. Addiction knows no boundaries it can touch anyone and their families at any time. It was clear that they both had told their stories before, and had been in therapy and recovery groups. N had a lot of self-awareness and insight into her past, and why she …show more content…
I would like to do this individually with N first and then bring in the brothers. She did not mention much of her brothers in class, I think the one was the responsible one making sure homework got done, and the other brother was a best friend to her. I am curious and would like to work with the siblings. I would want to see the roles she would say her brothers had, and if they would agree with those same roles or not. While I have N by herself in the session I would want to work at her feelings associated with the roles she took on, and what her brother’s roles were in relation to hers and process threw those emotions. In the sibling session I would want to have them select for themselves what each other their roles were and see if there were the same as the ones N picked for her brothers. If the roles are not I would have them discuss and work on clearing up the discrepancies, feelings and beliefs held growing up. The next exercise I would want to use would be the Giving Up Control. I remember she said something about having control problems during her story. With just N in session talking about her control or lack of growing up. Working at what were the circumstances that made her feel the need to control and manipulate throughout her life. Also on page 77 the completing the sentence stems and exploring why she filled in what she filled in and the
Make a list of the pressures the children in the Ngyuen family faced growing up with their parents.
I also enjoyed the prayer at the end. I didn’t like when everyone had to admit aloud that they were alcoholic (I get that it’s part of the 12 steps but it seemed like they had already admitted it to themselves because they were there). I did like that the meeting was held in a church. The atmosphere was relaxed, calm and non judgmental. Even in a room full of what could’ve been total first timers or strangers, they had an amazing and supportive energy that just filled the room. I loved watching the people connect, grow, and heal over a tragedy that took over their life. It was also amazing and empowering to see them make the step to give themselves and the people they love a better future.
I enjoyed the topic of domestic violence, and I actually felt extremely emotional about this specific topic. My opinion is that I wish we were actually doing this topic, so we could assist and aid these women and children in our community. The more in-depth, we got into domestic violence, the angrier it made me. There needs to be additional safeguards for domestic violence victimization. It is unthinkable how many women die every day, and I wish I could do more. I contemplate the young girls, who rush to get married in our community, and how this predisposes them to domestic
My topic for this essay was on how Isolation changed the people in enders games behaviour and how it is the central theme of the book. My main point was on how Ender was isolated, how Bean was separated, and Shen. Ender went from being a shy boy to a sad, lonely leader. Bean went from having a big ego to being quite respectful. The author was trying to show how having no compassion led to ruthlessness. Teachers could learn from this novel. A few teachers have said things about a student sometimes mean, sometimes good which led to the child being left out and
The whole experience of attending this A.A meeting was enjoyable and fun. I enjoyed every aspect of it, especially the personal stories that many of the A.A members decided to share, because I personally feel that it takes plenty of courage to be able to speak in front of people about personal problems that you had to overcome. I felt a sense of empathy towards some of the members because the personal stories that they shared were really vivid. It made think about how at times we are quick to judge an individual without even knowing how their problems came to
Family: Remsley has a conflicting relationship with his mother. According to Remsley, he and his mother have different views on things (i.e. friends, education, house rules and leisure time). Due to youth and his mother disagreements in the home causes verbal conflict between them. Remsley and his mother have a
The passages i have chose today for my coming of age essay was the court scene and the problems after the court scene because there were multiple parts in those 2 scenes where the kids could have possibly observed some experience for coming of age and i will explain every single detail and every little piece of information to show you how and what they observed to coming of age in the future.
Sharing: During this meeting four different people went up and told their stories about their experiences with alcohol, how they came to Alcoholics Anonymous and how their lives have changed as a result of going to Alcoholics Anonymous. Announcements from the leader and group members followed. Donations were collected, by passing a basket around the room.
They were all about 90 minutes and the family atmosphere I felt in every single one of them. It was when I sat down to write my paper that I reflected on how important this journey was for me. I realize it's one thing to make a referral and tell clients to go to an AA/NA meetings but it's another thing to explain what the make of the room is who the participants are.
I personally shared about how my grandma didn't see a black person till the age of nineteen. This really shocked everyone as much as it did me as that's unheard of these days. Ali shared the experience of how her grandma’s school bused in black kids to her school to increase diversity. The interesting part here was that Ali said that they still do that today at her high school. It goes to show how while everyone thinks thing are always changing for the better, is it really? In this case, is there an underlying racial factor playing a factor here? Overall it was a great time sharing our experiences of our older generation families, it definitely brought some surprises and good laughs.
Jeannette is the narrator of her memoir, telling her story from age three into adulthood. As a child she is adventurous, wild-hearted, and Dad's favorite. Jeannette, a middle sibling, is closer to younger brother Brian than her older sister Lori: Brian shares Jeannette's love of the outdoors, while Lori is more a bookworm. As Jeannette maturess, her feelings toward Dad and Mom change. She resents Dad's drinking and how he constantly lets her and the rest of the family down yet never openly admits it or allows his flaws to be discussed. Jeannette also resents Mom's refusal to hold down a job long enough to provide her kids with a stable food supply. These resentments make her more and more willful and independent. Eventually she scrapes together
We all gave advice to each other, especially the people how are going threw the same things together. Everyone gives everyone input. The instructor went on with the meeting asking questions about how else they can improve their lives. One guys shouted “Not to do drugs”. Of course that’s a good way to improve your life, stay away from those drugs. They will do nothing but bad for you and your body, and your mind. They mess up your
I found it to be quite moving when the woman with diabetes revealed how she was in Wal-Mart wanting to buy the meatball sub. Right before she ordered the sandwich, Mrs. Esselstyn called; it was almost as if she knew this was happening. This gave me chills because I can really relate to this situation. There are so many times when I struggle with choices and feel as though I am all alone. It is during those moments of weakness that I could really use someone’s support to help me make the right decision.
I have never attended a community meeting or any meeting regarding my community therefore, attending this meeting for the first time was a great first experience. I was able to see how a meeting is ran and how the organization works in order to help make improvements in my community. When I went into the office the meeting was being held, I was offered an agenda and other informational forms regarding the meeting. The agenda provided information of how the organization of the meeting would be and who will be going over what topics. The meeting was a timed meeting where Richard Hernandez and Bill Houtt managed on recording to keep data. The issues that were discussed were citizen’s request for city improvements, a short review of the 2016 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report (CAPER) Accomplishments, which is a grant that helps build homes for low income families and was reviewed by Rhonda Haynes a community developer. Lastly, the Sidewalk at Divisadero and Rinaldi, North Visalia citizen report were also discussed by Bill Houtt a member of the committee, and construction issues in N. Visalia discussed by Lt. Brent Abbott.
On July 18, 2017, I attended the City of Gulfport’s City Council Meeting.
