“The right to bear arms”, an amendment so prioritized by our founding fathers that it earned the very second spot on the list of birth rights as Americans. However, with constant tragedies striking the United States, such as massacres in public high schools and universities, mall shootings, and attempted assassinations on state representatives, it’s no wonder law makers are constantly debating the topic of gun control.

Gun control is a controversial issue for a long time around the world, particularly in U.S. because of a lots of mass shooting in school and public places. The second Amendment of the U.S. constitution is one of the shortest in all of the bill of right, it was written by the time period of American’s birth and it is the spirit of self-defense that help the new citizens of U.S. win their own freedom from the British. But now as the gun shooting problem happening every day in America, this gun control problem has gradually become to a hot issue. Compare to other countries like Britain, Canada, Japan, China, the difference between U.S. and those countries is in these countries to get a firearm is a very difficult thing

Gun control is a very big issue in the United States today. Many people don't agree with the gun control laws that they have today. Gun control laws only take guns away from law-abiding citizens. Many people have their own reasons for owning a gun. Why would the government want to make it harder for people to own a gun? People that own guns are not very likely to be attacked by criminals. Owning a handgun is one of the best ways of protection. The second amendment states "the right to bear arms" does this grant everyone a right to own a gun? Gun control laws have not been proven to do anything for citizens. Gun control laws just make it harder for a good guy to own a gun. Gun control laws are not a good idea.

All that should happen is certain types of guns shouldn't be accessible to the public. For example, a war zone gun like an M-16 should not be available to the general public because it is not used to hunt and is not a reasonable gun to carry simply to bare arms. Gun control would also put more restrictions on who can purchase a gun, because some people are not in the right state of mind to own a gun. Manufacturers might also be required to make all guns child proof. It's simple, if guns are available to everyone and anyone, gun violence will not be taken as seriously as it should be. Also, while more gun legislation is needed, the already existing gun laws on the state and national levels need to be strictly enforced. For example, it is a national law that in order to purchase a gun, a background check is required, but not all states enforce this law properly.

The supporters of gun control want our government to eliminate the sales of guns to the public. This will make a tremendous difference as far as gun crimes are concerned. Kids and teenagers would no longer be exposed to guns inside the households and this will prevent these kids and teens from making bad uneducated decisions. Gun control is a law that controls how guns are sold and used, and who can own them. Allowing people to possess and use a gun with legal documents in the United States is legal. There have been arguments on whether or not is should be legal to own a gun as some people see it as beneficial and others do not. It is believed that guns are beneficial to have, and they are there because we need to be able to protect ourselves. We should not allow the government to have power over gun control for many reasons including the loss of tradition of hunting, not being able to protect ourselves, and simply because of the second amendment.

The United States Gun laws need to be actively strengthened to protect and prevent harm against citizens by creating more thorough background checks, mental health checks, and more licenses specifically for different types of assault weapons. Several mass shootings have been caused by legally purchased guns caused by background checks without intensive research. With stricter gun laws harm and massive tragedies would be prevented or have more protection and safety. New laws and mandates would change the environment of gun safety and protection.

When I grew up and throughout my life I didn’t need to worry about this issue. Only in the last 15 years or so has the issue of gun control come about in this country. Since scannings for mental illness are so rare and people don't need permits to buy or sell privately owned guns, this makes it easier for people with mental health issues to own a guns. Some of the pro gun-control advocates think making gun owners register their firearms to the state would make it a lot harder for these guns to be transferred to a person with issues. Making stricter gun laws could prohibit people from owning guns, also making the death rates decrease and prevent homicides and suicide. More gun control laws will not prevent criminals from obtaining guns or Disobeying laws. Gun control laws will give to much power to the government. After witnessing countless murders with the use of rifles and hand guns, gun control may be one of the first ideas that may come to mind. These criminals always seem to have high capacity magazines and weapons with fast fire rates. This would cause people to say, “let’s reduce the legal magazine capacity, and enforce stricter gun laws.” This ideology might sound great on paper, but it may ignore a more serious issue. It could be understood that there may not be any intention to ban guns completely, but certain aspects of gun control have negative effects on law abiding citizens who legally own guns. Gun control may sound like a great idea, but I believe that it is not going to act as a long-term deterrent for gun violence and murders in the future. The point is that no matter the laws enforced, there are always alternatives to buying a firearm legally, especially when purchasing guns for criminal intent. No matter what gun laws are enforced; criminals will always turn to the black market to purchase guns, purchase firearm ammunition, and how to prevent criminals from getting their hands on firearms through screening.

The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun. If gun laws become opposed to the law, then only criminals will have guns. Stricter gun laws will not stop a madman from killing. In fact, 34% of mass shooters were prohibited from owning weapons; although, a surveyed showed 57% of gun owners believe guns are too easy to buy and 35% of people who carry guns would make Americans feel safer. Gun control will only affect the law-biding citizens simultaneously as the demand of illegal weapons on the black-market increases. Background checks will only restrict criminals from legally buying a firearm, but that does not stop a mentally ill person; which are usually the ones to start a shooting massacre. The second amendment literally states “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” Protected by the second amendment, it will be hard to regulate guns because now every single individual has a right to bear arms. For example, the Texas Baptist church shooter was gun downed by an armed citizen. Had there been stricter gun laws in Texas towards not being able to have a concealed firearm in public, the shooter could have gotten away. People should have the right to exercise the second amendment; therefore, gun control will not work because criminals will always find a way to obtain guns, supply and demand on the black market will increase and there are more existing weapons than people in the U.S.
