Gun control in the United States has been a controversial issue for some time now. So much so that the Supreme Court even refuses to address this issue directly. Gun control really boils down to the the Second Amendment of the Constitution. Many people have different interpretations of the Second Amendment and the trenches are dug in deep on this issue. The Second Amendment can not provide the right to bear all types of arms to protect the people from governmental tyranny. If the Second Amendment was absolute, then we would allow the public to possess nuclear weapons, missiles, and other such arms, because like the 9 mm handgun that is an arm, a nuclear warhead is also a type of arm. The more our government restricts our rights to own …show more content…
I don’t believe that felons should be restricted from owning hand guns, because they are citizens of this country just as much as you or I. If they are out of jail, that means that they have done their time according to our system and their full rights should be reinstated. If we don’t want certain felons to have guns, then we should make their release conditional. Non citizens of the United States of America should not be allowed to possess any type of weapon. If you are not a citizen you have no right to carry a weapon in our country. If for some reason you need protection here, hire a citizen to protect you while you are visiting. I don’t know why someone would come some place were they feel their live is going to be threatened. It would be next to impossible for our citizens to decide what arms should be allowed for non military ownership. So we group arms in to categories and sub categories. The United States of America is the freest country in the world and yet we don’t have the widest selections of arms available in the world. With good reason, because we are clearly the most violent society in the world and we know this. Certain types of arms have been banned for good reasons. Weapons of mass destruction are obviously not a good thing for citizens to own. They present to many oppurtiunies to infringe on other people rights in turn
News is all around us and is readily available to everyone. There are many flaws in the system that hurts the authenticity of the news when you see it. The media is indirectly part of the political system. Most news is either considered liberal or conservative by many.
Across the United States of America a debate rages on daily, that debate is whether or not to allow the public to obtain and operate firearms. The right to bear arms has been fused together with American culture for hundreds of years. Many advocates for gun control are against citizens of the United States being able to possess and operate firearms, even though it is a necessary evil and is a right of every man and woman across the country. Gun control in the United States is a dangerous topic but one that needs to be addressed. American citizens have the right to bear arms, and the evidence is there to prove that it can be done effectively and safely.
Gun ownership is embedded in the fabric of America. The United States has the highest gun ownership rate in the world with 88 guns per 100 people. This is a staggering amount of firearms in the U.S. which our forefathers would 've never imagined when writing the 2nd Amendment. The 2nd Amendment states that “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Not everyone interprets this right the same way. Regulating and restricting the use of these firearms brings up opposing sentiments from those in favor of gun control and those who oppose
Over the years the topic of gun control has turned out to be very polemic causing large debates, especially in the United States. A vast majority of people who are against gun control insist that is their right to own a gun mainly for self defense, while others who are for it, point out that it is not necessary to have access to certain guns like the military-style weapons therefore a ban should take place.
President obama said at a press conference on October 01, 2015 “The solution to such violence is obvious. It cannot be this easy for somebody who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun.” (Simple Minded Gun Control). Gun control is a controversial issue worldwide. The reason why this has attracted so much attention is because not everyone is in favor of gun control and each side brings up excellent points about the issue. Research related to this issue strongly supports the claim that there SHOULD be more gun control laws. Three arguments that prove this position are (1) Incidents like Sandy Hook will be less likely to occur (2) It reduces the high rates of accidental deaths (3) As the years pass by and technology updates the laws should be up to date as well. Members from the National Rifles Association state that No law-abiding American should be forced to face evil with empty hands. I say I agree with President Obama there SHOULD be more gun control laws because it should not be as easy as it is for someone who wants to inflict harm on others to get their hands on a weapon.
Many people have gotten away with the crimes they have committed. These people have not been convicted for their actions, which means there will be no records and they will be given a weapons license if they desire to do so. That situation is exactly like those mental ill that has not been to a hospital for their condition. A mentally unstable person is aloud a weapon for their protection but in some way that statement contradicts itself because that person puts themselves and others in more danger in order to protect.
Criminals are provoked by self-protection and guns can thus be a disincentive. A majority of convicted American criminals have reported that they fear from attacking the victims who are armed. Their fear of encountering armed victims surpasses their fear of being caught by police (Lott, pp.05). Robbers do not attempt to break into houses after midnight because of the probability of being shot. Thus, society should be against gun control because crimes will decrease.
From other countries and in the eyes of foreigners and refugees, America is the land of the free and the home of the brave. With rights that are given to us, we are free to say anything we please; to not be searched or have things seized from us unreasonably; and the most important right, the one that defends all of the others, the right to keep and bear arms. Understanding the rights given by the 2nd amendment of our constitution has been a major issue in America, since the day it was written. This right lets us own our own weapons, and it should not be controlled by the government how many and what guns we can own. With modern technology, guns have become so much cheaper and accessible that some regulations must be put into place, and
The article “Gun Control isn’t the answer” stated “There is no way to extinguish the supply of guns. It would be constitutionally suspect and politically impossible to confiscate hundreds of millions of weapons” (James Q. Wilson) The facts are absolutely correct, there are millions of legal and illegal weapons within our borders and no way to cut off the supply of weapons. Criminals always find ways around the laws and rules. “There is the problem of lack of political will within the Executive Branch, one key example is the ban on imported assault weapons” ("Fully Enforce the Ban on Imported Assault Weapons”). The government is even lacking support on the ban of illegal assault weapons. It would make a huge difference in the United States if the ban was enforced with more power. It would bring down several mass shootings and homicide deaths across the nation. “Gun Control: An overview” states “As defined by gun right advocates, only fully automatic weapons should be considered assault weapons” (Lee, M., and Alexander Stingl). If the gun does not spray rounds constantly like some of the weapons out there, it should not be considered illegal and unsafe. People need to know the gun laws and be more educated about them. They need to realize the dangers of a gun but also need to realize the positives about them. They need to be kept out of the wrong people’s hands. As stated above, guns are
Ownership of certain weapons should be prohibited. Assault rifles and submachine guns are firearms that are never necessary. The United States should set a goal to having fewer high-power weapons available. However, the only situation to these firearms being more acceptable to use than others, are the warlike scenarios.
We, Americans, have the right to keep and bear arms, restricting that right is unconstitutional. By taking our rights away, we are left defenseless from people who intend to do evil. Moreover, the states that allow registered citizens to carry concealed weapons
Former Governor of New York Eliot Spitzer once said "Yes, people pull the trigger - but guns are the instrument of death. Gun control is necessary, and delay means more death and horror". Spitzer’s words makes one think: should we fear the person behind the gun or the gun itself? The majority of violent crimes that happen in America are not only caused by a criminal, but also the weapon in which the criminal is holding. America’s gun violence problem stems from the increasing accessibility of firearms. Many of the mass shootings in America could have been prevented if access to semi-automatic and automatic weapons were completely banned. Gun violence is an arising issue, and a change needs to be made concerning the gun laws in the U.S. Stricter gun control laws is necessary to prevent high accessibility to firearms and mass shootings, also research shows that Australia’s strict gun control laws are proven to be more efficient in preventing gun violence.
If you have ever been in a life threatening situation with no way to defend yourself, being denied access to a firearm makes the situation worse. Many law abiding citizens that feel threatened are not able to obtain a firearm for protection. Innocent people are dying while criminals are getting away with gun related crimes. There can be many regulations and laws against guns, but if a person wants a gun they will find a way to get one. The thought of criminals having guns in their possession is a scary thought, but would you want to be the one who is unarmed? Research shows there is no direct correlation between gun control and lower crime rates; therefore, denying law abiding citizens access to weapons for protection is unfair
People are being killed. As outlined above, the prevalent usage of guns in the United States have many negative impacts. It is very easy to obtain a gun. We acknowledge the fact that people keep weapons for their protection; however, they are not being used for protection. In my opinion, availability of weapons in the United States should at least be made difficult if it cannot be completely prohibited. The circumstances are getting worse; nevertheless they can be regulated, otherwise it may keep getting worse and worse just as they are in some countries around the
Gun ownership is an inalienable right provided to American citizens by the Constitution, and this controversial issue is still relevant today. The U.S has about 88.8 guns per 100 people, the highest amount out of any nation in the world. Guns laws should not restrict ownership; instead, efforts of reducing deaths require focusing on problems which lead to gun violence. I believe that no more gun control laws should be enacted in the U.S because they deny people a sense of security and infringe upon the right of self-defense. Owning a weapon is a critical component of the Constitution and deters crime based on the fear of the criminal.
