Gun control is probably one of the most debatable concerns in the constitution. There are many scenarios in which you can see the good in pro-gun control and also other scenarios where con-gun control is good. Gun control should not be a plan the U.S government should take because there are many cases in which a firearm will determine you from death or life. And the right to carry a firearm is like the right to protect our freedom, and to self defend ourselves. Firearms are used defensively roughly 2.5 million times per year, more than four times as many as criminal uses. This amounts to 2,575 lives protected for every life lost to a gun. (SAF) The people that are most concerned by this issue are those that have lost someone close to them …show more content…
Firearms are your defense from criminals. If we are not to have our 2nd amendment our crime rates will increase because criminals will invade houses more freely because they know that that citizen doesn't have a firearm or another words “protection”.Also new types of crimes will probably be created such as home-invasion robberies or car-hackings. Not only that but a rise in intimidation where criminals will intimidate people to give up their valuables so they can avoid being injured by the criminal. Also if we are not to have firearms the 5,285 children will be alive but our nation will be enduring more violence then it already is enduring. If we are to keep our 2nd amendment we will have better chances of surviving in a situation in which we are attacked or aggravated by a criminal. If we are to call 9-1-1 when we are getting aggravated the police would take longer than if we had a firearm and protected ourselves. The fastest growing group of gun owners is women. (SAF) This is probably because 232,960 women in the U.S. were raped or sexually assaulted in 2006. That's more than 600 women every day. These were only the cases that were reported to the police. (NOW) Even though these statistics are hard to believe there is still a women that thinks, “...I don't believe gun owners have right.” (Brady) Without guns there would probably be double rape cases then what there is now. Also a firearm is usually only given to citizens that are responsible because that is were
Not only does the Second Amendment provide citizens with peace of mind that they can protect themselves against the authority, but it also allows citizens to protect themselves from fellow Americans, should the need arise. Firearms help to create a level playing field for all people, regardless of their age, size, gender, or even disability. Because we have the ability to carry arms, dangerous people no longer have the ability to pick and choose “easy” victims due to their lesser size or strength. No matter who you are, an added measure of security can make all the difference in a dangerous
The second amendment should not be taken away because it also provides each state with an option for a militia. Over the past 5 years, that gap has rapidly decreased in all sectors. GPS and mapping tech, software, optics, etc has gotten smaller faster and cheaper at a rapid pace in the civilian sector, and in some instances -more user friendly by far.” Militia’s are a sort of small army, with very advanced weaponry that show that militia, and the military are very advanced. “Today, 23 states and territories have organized militias, most commonly known as State Defense Forces (SDFs).” (Carafano “The 21st-Century Militia: State Defense Forces and Homeland Security) The government being trusting enough to let multiple states have small armies shows a lot. It shows how the government and each state is organized. Militias also allow states to be separate from the government, but still be with the government. If each state has a small militia, they won’t need help from the government, while the government still controls laws for how militias work. Some may say we don’t need a small military, we have the army, or the police! But the army is more national, plus would take a longer time for help. The police help, but sometimes more power is needed, other than hand pistols. Without the second amendment, the whole country
News is all around us and is readily available to everyone. There are many flaws in the system that hurts the authenticity of the news when you see it. The media is indirectly part of the political system. Most news is either considered liberal or conservative by many.
Gun control in the United States has been a controversial issue for some time now. So much so that the Supreme Court even refuses to address this issue directly. Gun control really boils down to the the Second Amendment of the Constitution. Many people have different interpretations of the Second Amendment and the trenches are dug in deep on this issue. The Second Amendment can not provide the right to bear all types of arms to protect the people from governmental tyranny. If the Second Amendment was absolute, then we would allow the public to possess nuclear weapons, missiles, and other such arms, because like the 9 mm handgun that is an arm, a nuclear warhead is also a type of arm. The more our government restricts our rights to own
In most cases even preventing the crime from taking place in the first place. While the second amendment protected these individuals, it has also harmed others; According to 2014 Crime in the United States, Expanded Homicide, roughly 14,000 murders committed in the United States during that year, of these, about 10,000, were committed with firearms. While repealing the second amendment would have decreased the deaths, the criminals who are doing harm, will still find a way to commit harm with or without a firearm. It would give the criminal the advantage of knowing that the citizens do not carry guns and would lead to the criminal to conduct the crime because the citizen cannot defend himself. The problem with repealing the second amendment is that criminals would still find a way to commit the crime if the second amendment gets repealed. As shown in Criminal Victimization 2014, roughly 5.9 million violent crimes were committed in the United States during 2014 these included assaults, robberies, sexual assaults, rapes, and murders. 10% were perpetrated by offenders visibly armed with a gun. This goes to show that 10% of these cases did the criminals require the use of a firearm to commit these offenses. Meaning that the criminal committing the crimes would have committed the crime with or without the firearm when only 10% of the criminals needed a gun to go through with their crime. Taking away guns would
The second amendment gives people the right to own a firearm. The founding fathers might have thought a gun was the best form of protection but many years have past since then and humans have evolved. Times are different and society is different. Technology has a big impact on people and how we think and all those variables can affect people with how they react in stressful situations. We have to consider the mental stability of those in possession of the weapons, it is important to keep the weapon away from loved ones or other people, and is the law protecting those in possession of the weapons or putting lives in more danger.
Gun control has been a long debate to determine if it’s better to have stricter access to firearms. America is one of the few countries that has gun rights embedded in their constitution. But what makes the US exceptional is that it has the right to keep and bear arms, other countries do not provide the right to have access to them, but rather, the government is allowed to regulate its use. The right to bear arms has also been the cause of growing violence and crime, at least according to anti-gun lobbyists. Citizens should be aware the dangers and harm that guns present to society. Controlling the sale of firearms can greatly decrease the number of violent crimes.
Americans are faced with a big issue of violence in the streets, these streets where elderly people are beaten for their money and women are attacked and raped. Sadly, some people believe that the best way to deal with these violent occurrences is to pass gun control laws that take away legally owned guns from everyone. Not only does gun control end up disarming the innocent but it also violates the Second Amendment. By taking away guns from the American citizens, whom the Second Amendment bestowed onto us this act violates our rights. Unfortunately for those who have legally armed themselves for self-defense, gun control would eventually strip away their ability to fend for themselves. Gun control will also end up causing a rise in crime. By taking away arms from good law abiding citizens and leaving them defenseless, it makes things much easier for criminals by knowing that their victims are not armed. Although the gun ban would take away guns from stores, a criminal will find a way to get their hands on one, imagine that. Gun controls are taking away our rights as citizens. If a law abiding citizen happens to enjoy hunting, they will lose that right. Gun controls are also taking away weapons from citizens. Gun control is not having a positive effect on America because it violates the second amendment, takes away rights and it won’t reduce the crime rate.
We need to keep the second amendment the same and not change one thing to it. If we didn’t have the guns then we can’t defend ourselves. People want to change the amendment to where we can’t buy guns as easy, and they want to try changing it to where we got to have license to own one. If we keep the amendment the same then we can protect ourselves from any danger: “The first is that the amendment was meant to ensure that individuals have the absolute right to own firearms” (Mount, 2011). This means that we should have it to where we have the right to own guns and to keep it easier to buying and shooting them. Another reason, the military has guns, and they need them to fight: “The second is that the amendment was meant to ensure that States
Although America has seen a significant increase in mass shootings over the years, it is best that gun laws should not be amended. Even though guns are dangerous when they are placed in the wrong hands, it is best that our gun laws should not be infringed, causing Americas Second Amendment of the Constitution to be messed with. The Second Amendment was added to our Constitution because the founders believed in the private ownership of guns was necessary for protection of our liberties. In addition taking away guns would punish our honest citizens, and if they were outlawed, criminals would still find ways to arm themselves. Do we really feel that taking away guns all together, would prevent these mishaps? When
The second amendment allows just about anyone to have a gun. Now a days there are people who reveal all the time they want to kill someone or themselves and no precautions are taken.guns are in the wrong hands all the time and innocent people die everyday from a careless person with a gun. Guns cause collateral damage Adults give their children guns to scare off animals sometimes thinking they removed the bullets and giving their children to play with and they accidentally shot one another. Everyone wants to be able to walk down the street and not having the constant thought in there head that someone other than a police officer having a gun
According to the National Rifle Association (NRA), guns are used 2.5 million times a year for self-defense. The police cannot always get there in time to stop the crime in place; so therefore, this is one of the reasons why the gun laws should be less strict. They deny people’s safety when an intruder in coming inside of their property. Nelson Lund stated, "The right to self-defense and to the means of defending oneself is a basic natural right that grows out of the right to life" and "many [gun control laws] interfere with the ability of law-abiding citizens to defend themselves against violent criminals.(Lund)”. Another reason why gun control laws are not a good idea is because gun control laws will not stop criminals from getting guns or breaking the law. Guns would be taken from law-abiding citizens while criminals still get their hands on weapons and completely ignore the law. While that is happening, some people think with gun laws getting stricter, it increases of the control to the government and may result in tyranny. Wayne LaPierre stated, "if you look at why our Founding Fathers the Second Amendment there, they had lived under the tyranny of King George and they wanted to make sure that these free people in this new country would never be subjugated again and have to live under tyranny." With that being said, the second amendment is there because they don’t want another tyranny rule again.
Some people like to shoot guns for hunting, some like to shoot them for recreation. Whatever the reason, when using guns, there are steps you need to take to be safe, whether shooting or storing them.
What would you say if I were to tell you that over the past seven days, approximately 200 people have been killed by guns in the United States? What if then I said that from 1982 to 2012 in the U.S., there have been 62 mass shootings? And then, what if I told you that of the shooters in those 62 shootings, the youngest was only 11 years old? This child, along with a 13-year-old accomplice, stole 7 guns from his father and the other child’s grandfather and ambushed people outside of a school, killing 5 and wounding 10 (“A Guide to Mass Shootings in America”, April 18, 2016). The Second Amendment to the Constitution gives the people the right to bear and own arms, but it has been misinterpreted because when it was created, it was intended for states to have a militia to prevent the government from imposing unfair legislation as King George did to the colonies. Now people look at this Amendment as an unconditional right to own a gun no matter what. This was not the intent of the Amendment originally. It was originally intended to keep the citizens of this country safe and the way to do this, at the time, was to let them have a gun. Now there are many more ways to keep people safe other than owning a gun. The current laws regulating the purchasing of firearms and ammunition in the United States are practically nonexistent, and so badly upheld and enforced that they might as well not be there at all.
It’s against the 2nd Amendment to take handguns away because it is part of the constitution and it will be to much of a hassle. In an article from Seattle Times, it’s noted that “Society, too has a right to safety [They also cherish freedom]” (Seattle Times). In this quote we can see that taking our guns away is taking our right for our safety
