Gun Violence In America

The United States is one of the few countries were the right to bear arms is protected by the constitution. Unfortunately, it is also one of the most violent with incidents involving guns this year reaching an estimated 36,212 and an approximate 9,050 deaths (“Gun Violence Archive”). There are an estimated 310 million firearms in households across American, these are only estimates because current gun laws do not require them to be registered or tracked. A more staggering estimate is that most of the guns owned by private citizens are semi-automatic guns, the same type of gun used in almost all mass shootings. While these privately owned guns are legally purchased, many times, they land in the hands of criminals, and owners never report them stolen. Mass shootings and gun crimes are not the only issues with gun violence the one never talked about is suicide, more guns available equals more suicides. The United States is one of the easiest countries to own a gun legally or illegally, stricter gun control laws are necessary.

‘“A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”’ (“Gun Control”) Due to firearms, more than 30,000 people die in America every year. Mass shootings happen frequently and people die because of the lack of laws and their security. The United States needs better gun control laws because automatic assault rifles are easy to buy, the mentally ill can purchase guns, and many die from guns each year.

In America, the average amount of people shot per year is 100,000; over ten thousand defenseless people are murdered. The Second Amendment’s proclamation that “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” has been an extensive topic of debate. Moreover, the amendment has been one of many debates over the several years throughout America. The discussion of gun control is often debated as to whether or not it is morally right to legally bypass the Second Amendment to avoid unlawful uses of arms. The Second Amendment allows citizens to carry firearms specifically for protection, gun control hinders that right and places civilians’ lives in danger. In short, the U.S. government’s intrusive restrictions on gun laws prevent law-abiding citizens from defending themselves with firearms.

Gun violence in the United States has been a growing anomaly. Everyday 309 people die from guns in America, and this number is growing. These tragedies can be a result of suicide, murder, gang related, racially motivated, accidents etc. In the past, many policy makers in Washington have attempted to create a law to decrease the number of gun related deaths, however, many of these attempts have become unsuccessful. Guns have been is society for centuries. They have been used for hunting, war, and even safety. However, in the past several years they have begun to take the lives of many innocent victims, often young children. In response to the killings in Newtown, Conn., it has been noted, “If this were a country, the number of children killed by gun violence would violate international law.” (Browne-Marshall) F.B.I. data shows in 2011, 1,668 African American children were killed due to guns. Day by day gun violence is rising and it is not only in ghetto neighborhoods.

There has been a rise on the topic of gun violence. It has become a more relevant topic today and one cannot walk away from the news without hearing a story related to gun violence either being covered or displayed on the teleprompter below. This paper will analyze three sources: an article written by Dov Cohen, titled “Culture, Social Organization, and Patterns of Violence,”on the trends of violence based on location, a Ted Talk given by Dan Gross, titled “Why Gun Violence Cannot become America’s New Normal,”on the topic of gun violence and how it affected his life as well a proposition to ending violence in the U.S, and an article, “Analyzing Available Data Could Help Improve Background Checks Involving Domestic Violence Records,” written by the U.S. Government of Accountability Office(GAO) which covers the process of background checks within the sales of firearms. These three sources will be evaluated on the bases that they evoke a strong argument with the use ethos, pathos, and logos within their writings.

Gun Violence is a major problem in the United States, it leads to a lot of deaths every day. The area of focus is the United States of America. Guns are one of the most controversial and debated-upon topics in America today. In the Constitution, Americans are given “the right to bear arms,” and many Americans are proud of and believe strongly in that right. Though, that right has been constantly misused. Homicides by gun are at a higher rate in the United States than any other country in the world, mass shootings are at an all time high (many of which have occurred in the past two years alone), and terrorism has been at an all-time high. For many decades, gun violence has taken the lives of many; friends, family, artist, presidents, and even law enforcement. These tragic losses are a result of rapid, furious reactions from people who don 't stop and think, "is this truly worth their life?”. Fortunately, some of these killers were put behind bars and loved ones were able to find justice but justice could never replace the life of someone. Gun violence is dividing America and the majority of those at risk are innocent. How many more mass shootings do we have to endure in order to realize steps need to be taken to reduce the gun violence in America? I dont really remember what I told you my topic was for my research paper. So, if it is not what I think it is which is the trying to lower gun violence in America I would like to change it because lately I've been doing research on gun violence in America and I just noticed how big of a problem it was. There is a shooting almost everyday and in many of them at least one person dies. I think that if your family and or loved ones have had history of mental illness there should be a test given to evaluate their psych. And if there is no history there still should be other measures taken. Gun violence is a very serious and complex issue. This issue has been taking place for many years all over the United States. Gun violence has no real prevention and no simple way of being stopped. Every single day more than one person's life is taken by a gun. Some of these deaths are caused by senseless acts of violence while others occur by accident. Gun violence is one of the main causes of death in America, some say guns are used for protection but others use guns for their own negative agenda.
