Gun Violence In America

The gun problem in America takes root in our very own foundations. And so, this issue will only rise and drastically increase homicide and suicide rates. Virtually, this issue cannot be deterred completely as it is “the right of the people to keep and bear arms” (Second Amendment: Cornell.edu).Therefore, this cannot be completely disbanded due to this being an amendment protected by the constitution. Secondly, this will only keep the gun violence in a rise as most households feel that it is safer to keep a firearm at home. First off, gun violence is concentrated in cities “with high rates of unemployment and struggling school systems” (Lois Beckett). Most of this gun violence is seen in the ghetto’s as they face mass unemployment due to a struggling school system that affects the community as whole. Also, the mistrust between the community and law enforcement creates an endless cycle of violence between them and cause disruptions in the community’s major life transitions by turning these individuals destructive and promote the gun violence. And so, these factors can be linked to a rise in gun violence as it radically changes an individual. Therefore, these individuals are more prone to commit crimes in ordered to feel empowered. Consequently, it can be said that this disparity in gun violence is influenced by an individual’s characteristic as well as social experiences. Secondly, the major part of this issue is law-based as “US federal law says almost anyone can buy a gun” (Speiser). And so, most of these individuals involved in gun violence may be suffering from severe mental stress. Also, being in presence of gun violence in an individual’s environment promotes the use of a fire-arm to feel safe and empowered. Therefore, there should be more involvement in these communities to deviate the gun violence from the youth. In addition, there should be stricter laws for induvial to purchase firearms. For example, “in Japan, touching a gun without a license can result in 10 years in prison” (Speiser) and you must go through an extensive protocol to even be able to qualify to carry an armed weapon.
