The ringing of the midnight bell saw Gwen and Merlin weaving their way through the main gates of the castle towards their respective sleeping chambers. They had been celebrating, along with all of Camelot, Prince Arthur's birthday. Uther had decreed that everyone, including the servants, would participate in the celebration of Arthur's coming of age and while Gwen was not one to indulge, when Merlin had pointed out that "The King commanded it," she didn't hold back. Merlin had a firm grasp on Gwen's waist and he was carefully leading her over the uneven cobblestones towards the Grand Staircase. While he was feeling happy, Gwen was far past that point. Without a doubt, she was drunk, and Merlin couldn't help but giggle uncontrollably at his
Throughout this prose romance, Merlin is there to make sure that Arthur will survive. How Merlin
Yes, that is easy to figure out, the author tells us, but it is how she does it that is remarkable. She changes the view of the story, by centering it on Merlin. The book doesn’t start with the birth of Arthur, no instead it starts with the birth of Merlin. We follow Merlin’s life, not Arthur’s. We watch as this boy becomes a man and build an emotional connection with him. Just as two friends become closer when they learn about the other’s past, so too do we become closer and closer to Merlin. Each turn of the page reveals a new segment of his life, deepening the bond more and more like a hammer swing against a
Being an unwed mother often came with shame, but here, in the small village of Ealdor, Hunith had received nothing but support. She’d raised Merlin without a partner for the past three years, but she never felt alone, for her friends and neighbors intervened whenever she needed help.
In all the long history of literature, some fictional characters have loomed above others, written about again and again by various authors of various eras. Arthurian literature is one area of fiction that has always been popular for writers to recreate in new versions, and one of the most intriguing characters of all Arthurian literature is Merlin, the magician/ prophet who aids Arthur early in his reign. As the Arthurian saga develops, so does Merlin, changing from an aloof, druidical character into a more human, magical being, though always retaining some traces of his Welsh origins.
Five days after Arthur had told Guinevere he still loved her and wanted her has his wife, yet she still hadn’t told him how she felt, Arthur felt like tearing his hair out with worry. There was only one person who could handle the king while he was in such distress – Merlin.
A recurring theme that can be found throughout Arthurian literature is the mention of magic, mythical creatures, and other supernatural elements. Arthur’s own birth is a direct result of this. He was conceived after his father had used a potion, with the help of Merlin, to disguise himself as Igraine’s husband before sex. In some legends, there is even an “Otherworld”. The term Otherworld has Celtic origins and is usually described as a separate plane of existence from the normal world. Typically, it holds divine creatures or deities and can be entered by crossing a body of water. In Arthurian legend, the addition of supernatural elements is used to not only advance the plot, but aid the characters and often explain the unexplainable. Two
Merlin first becomes known first as the prophet for British King Vortigern. Vortigern wished to build a tower, but every time he would try, it would collapse. He brought in architect after architect, who failed and failed. Merlin told Vortigern that the tower will not stand because there are two dragons fighting beneath the ground in which the tower is being built. The two dragons fighting symbolize the war between the Saxons and the Britians.
It was about six in the morning on Saturday, and Arthur heaved himself out of bed, then, still half-asleep, flung himself into a warm shower. By the time he hopped out and toweled himself off, Merlin was already in front of Arthur’s flat, leaning on his horn.
In the Arthurian legend, there are many love affairs that lead to someone's demise. The first deadly affair is among Gorlois, Igraine, and Uther Pendragon. Then, towards the climax of the legend, comes the love between King Arthur, Guinevere, and Sir Lancelot. The relationship between Elaine, Guinevere, and Lancelot is brought to light towards the end of the legend.
Rather than heading towards the Court used when she arrived in Camelot, tearfully luring Arthur to his death, the crowd swerved to the right and down several more corridors until they reached two great oak doors. The guards opened them and Mithian gasped in delight. Rather than the lower arched ceiling she remembered, this ceiling stretched forever into the sky, its windows sparkled with sunlight, making each pane look like a sheet of diamonds and at the far end, she saw two Thrones adorned with intricate decorations. The King and Queen were already seated, discussing something in low voices.
Guinevere: *whispering* “Arthur, let us talk about this at a different time. Enjoy the Whitsun Feast while you can.”
Merlin then turned Arthur over to Sir Ector, to raise and love as his own with Ector’s other son Sir Kay (Wyly 20). While Arthur was being raised by Sir Ector, Uther fell deathly ill and died after a final legendary battle (Wyly 21). Soon after the land went into another power struggle, but this time it was a little more organized. There was a tournament held for all suitors to come and present their might and potentially claim the throne (Wyly 21). Fortunately for Arthur his elder brother, Sir Kay, attended this tournament, but forgot his sword at home (Wyly 22). In a panic Arthur searched for a sword for his brother, and in this panic Arthur pulled the sword from the stone, which said the one who pulls the sword from the stove is the true king of England (Wyly 22-23). Upon learning of this event and the origins of the sword, all of the knights kneeled to him (Wyly 24). That is how Arthur reclaimed the throne and began the legend of King Arthur.
The first family disease I have picked is depression. Depression has affected a significant amount of people in my family, including myself. First I would like to define depression. “Depression is a common mental disorder that causes people to experience depressed mood, loss of interest or pleasure, feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep and appetite, low energy, and poor concentration. (Depression)” There are numerous types of depression. The one that my family struggles the most with is major depression. Major depression restricts daily life of an individual. If the depression is not being treated or handled properly, it can lead to hospitalization or even suicide.

Instinctually, Arthur's sword hand twitched with the thought to run him through, but instead his lips pressed hard together and his eyes glazed with bitter water. From the moment he touched Excalibur, all of those gnawing questions he chose to ignore since Merlin stumbled into his life began to piece together bit by bit yet only led to even more questions that he could not grasp hold of completely. Merlin was Emrys somehow, a not-so-doddery old sorcerer after all, but a young warlock with unimaginable power.
