Witnessing blood slowly running down the face of a woman who had been in a car accident and blood gushing out of her lower abdomen as a ten year old was unlike anything I had ever seen. The chaotic scenes and the rush of providing help immediately really fascinates me. I knew ages ago exactly what I was passionate about. The only thing left to do was to experience and apply what I learned in order to become better at what I wanted to do. Hands on experience can influence young adults to do more in the community and reach beyond their abilities. With the achievements I have accomplished related to health care, I now have learned so much information that I can apply to help others in desperate needs. The first step I had to immediately take was to enroll in health science courses. By taking these courses I was more familiar with the human body and its abilities. …show more content…
Some of the events started at a regional level and others at a state level. The first event I participated in was the Health Career Display. I did my display on Forensic Pathology and was placed Top Ten. I received a medal for coming in fourth in my event. The year after that, I decided to do my project on Leukemia and Lymphoma for the Community Awareness event. It was really interesting to this event because I had to create a portfolio and document everything I did. I was able to visit the cancer center in Greenville and interview one of the oncologists. I was then given a tour around the center and into the radiation rooms. I placed fourth once again at the state level. My last year competing in HOSA I did a Community Awareness event on Substance Abuse. I also made it to the HOSA International Leadership Conference in the summer of 2016. I was given a Barbara James Service Award as well as a gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award for the six hundred plus hours I dedicated to serving the
To volunteer at special events such as Health and Wellness fairs, festivals, parades and fundraisers:
At the beginning of the year I helped set up for the chapter banquet and helped do opening ceremonies with the conduct team. This was when I was elected chapter reporter.
The seventh activity I participated in was wearing green on October sixth to support mental health awareness. It was neat to see how many people participated. Making people more aware of mental health disorders is very important because some people truly do not understand them.
For my second activity, I attended a meeting of Fossil Free SFSU. This organization is fighting to completely divest San Francisco State University from any connections with the fossil fuel industry. Meaning, this organization is campaigning for SFSU to eliminate all stocks, funds, bonds, etc.- anything associated to fossil fuels. I attended the meeting at a perfect time because it was sort of an introduction to what the organization is about and what they have planned for the future. It began with a quick introduction of everybody, and then we quickly went to business. We discussed and brainstormed what is needed to become a successful campaign team. I really
When I was starting my sophomore year in high school, I obtained a typical ambition of becoming a physician. However, this aspiration was largely unjustifiable since I was oblivious to what a job in healthcare truly entailed i.e. authentic patient care, the significance of effective verbal communication, HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) protocols healthcare professionals must abide by or even what the rationale behind using an AED was. However, through HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America), I have gained more competence in understanding the healthcare field and the importance of service, the amount of hard work and preparation for an event to be successful, and the significance of empathy and selflessness.
Everyone has a dream or something they want to follow in life. Some want material gain while others want to help as many people as they can. I’m not saying wanting material gain is a bad thing, but what I am saying is that for me, money is not the number one concern when my dream is to help others. My hunger to help others only grows by the day. Because of what’s going on in the world we live in today, I believe that it is important that those who are less fortunate than others have the assistance they need to get to an even playing field, health-wise, with others.
For my Junior year I was elected Chapter Treasurer and continued to be active in every event with my chapter. My Junior year I placed in numerous FFA events, including first place in Section Prepared Public Speaking and first place in District Veterinary Medicine Proficiencies. Regardless of those awards I feel that my biggest achievement was that I helped a younger FFA member succeed at public speaking and believe that she could be a meaningful contributor to the FFA, the school, the community, and agriculture.
While most students may have an identity, an interest or a talent that defines them in an essential way, I do not. My identity and multiple interests and talents have all culminated in framing who I am, my passions, and more importantly my college and career goals. My academic achievements has consisted of an Academic Award of Excellence in Medical Microbiology. I received a Masters grade level measure on the STARR U.S. History test; which means I did 99 percent better than everyone else who took it. For the summer of 2017 I was one of four people from Hendrickson High School accepted into the University of Texas Dell Medical School Health Sciences Summer Camp.
The first activity I completed was observing a Davidson County School Board meeting on the topic of an information breach that occurred. I took notes throughout the meeting and supported every teacher that spoke about their concerns. Collecting trash around the Ledford High School campus, both the football and baseball stadiums on two different occasions, was the next activity I completed. I then helped to paint a set for the Ledford Production of The Music Man. When the Special Olympics was held at Ledford, I decided to use that opportunity to become a buddy. I took the athlete and his family that I was paired with around to the different games that were offered, and got him water and snacks when he needed it. I was also a buddy for multiple athletes at the Miracle League of High Point. I assisted and encouraged each child as they batted, ran the bases, and played in the outfield in every game.
HOSA Member as a Sophomore - I participated in fundraisers and events such as HOSA Week for the Topsail Chapter of HOSA. I also competed in the NC HOSA District and State Competitions for Creative Problem Solving. (August 2015 - May 2016).
I continued to gain experience in health care. I worked at the student health center, creating and distributing relevant health related information, on campus and I worked as a home health aid. These college experiences enhanced my insight into the world of health care and provided me with greater excitement about becoming a health care provider.
From being a chapter and Area officer to participating in different events at HOSA competition, I have been able to realize that going into the medical field is exactly what I want to do with the rest of my life. Besides choosing my future career, HOSA has
This event is family oriented, I go every year will family and volunteering as much as I can to contribute. If I’m not mistaking, this year was the 6th annual Fall-o-ween festival.
I volunteer at the April Spring Fling Luncheon with Tom Arnold this year. I had a blast. At the Magnificent House when the client celebrate 90 days sober I provide them with cake and Ice cream. I general volunteer when my colleague
I went to the Waterbury Community Organization Fair because I have lived in Waterbury my whole life and have been a part of these organizations before. However, due to how expensive life is I had to drop out of those programs. As I got older it only got harder to get involved because I got a job. I always regretted not playing a bigger role in my community so I thought it would be a kick start to get me back in. Even though I was a child doing gymnastics in Girls Inc. and selling cookies for Girl Scouts before so it will not be exactly the same; I would still like to give back to the community and be a troop leader or something along those lines.
