I currently volunteer in a local hospital that serves the Dallas metroplex. The hospital is downtown in a lower economic level of the city. They cater to rural and urban individuals throughout the area and city. It was the first hospital to obtain a patient with the Ebola virus, and many of the patients that enter the hospital are in lower economic social classes. I love working with these individuals who are grateful for assistance throughout the hospital. I also volunteer with Habitat for Humanity which builds homes for those in rural areas throughout the metroplex. This is a very rewarding experience and I gain insight on how to build homes. I've worked in the emergency department as a scribe and gained insight on many medical specialities.
I really enjoy being helpful, and I like volunteering. I take upon myself many things, including lots of work with kids, and helping many elderly or disabled people who cannot do some things, that I can do. Together with my parents, my younger sister, and two other families, we helped an elderly lady clean out the ditch in her front yard, we spent 6 hours digging with shovels in a single day. We worked together to clean the ditch, and the smile on the lady’s face made everyone’s day, she even made us cookies! I also volunteered at the Aurora Portage County’s summer reading programs, where I became friends with some of the other helpers.
Another one of my favorite volunteering opportunities is helping out at Spring Creek Nursing home. A few of my friends and I try to volunteer regularly, and it has turned into one of my favorite things to do. I find myself looking forward to seeing the bright smiles and hearing the wisdom that the residents have to offer. Service is something that brings me joy and I hope to be able to share that joy with others if I become a member of NHS. I believe that it is my duty as a member of the community to help and to be an uplifting power and example for others so that our society can reach its full
Over the summers of high school I have been a volunteer at the Cedar Valley Humane Society. My duties as a volunteer included cleaning up cages, kennels, floors, and dishes, as well as comforting and walking the animals. I have loved animals for as long as I remember, so it was very satisfying to be able to help out these animals in need. My favorite part was seeing how much their days were made just by getting some care and affection. Furthermore, I have just recently started volunteering at the Mercy Hospital. I think volunteering at the hospital will help expand my knowledge of health career jobs and medical terminology. I plan to volunteer a large amount of my time to help out the patients and staff at
I like to work with people and help others. That is one reason why I joined Interact and want to be a part of the National Honor Society. It also one of the reasons why I want to work in the medical field--to help others. I have done service projects with St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Interact. With my church I have helped out the bazaars, fish frys, garden clean up, decorating the church, tailgate parties, and many other things.
The first place I volunteered at was Feed My Starving Children. Feed My Starving Children is an organization that makes nutritional meals for malnourished children. The meals are called MannaPacks and they are packed with rice, soy, dried vegetables, and flavoring. Each station has to measure the ingredients into the bags, weight the bag, then seal the bag. My role was sealing the bags and putting them in a box; and I did that for two hours. My volunteering and the volunteering of others really helped out because 27,000 meals were packed in our shift, which feeds 74 kids for a year. The other two hours that I did, I helped the staff clean up and take everything down. I benefited from this experience because I actually felt like I somewhat
There are many great nonprofits in the world doing so many great things for their communities. Nonprofit organizations that stay true to their mission are so vital to helping their communities survive and thrive in this difficult world. Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is one organization that is going above and beyond for their communities all around the nation. HFHI strives to remain a financially healthy nonprofit organization. They conduct their financials in a transparent and accountable way. Each year their financial reports are published to the public as well as their 990. It is required by the federal government to report financials for nonprofits, however, HFHI goes above and beyond to ensure they're remaining
I am apart of an organization through called the National Honors Society which is all about helping people through volunteer. I have been apart of this organization for three years now and we do things from taking elderly to the lake for the day, volunteer to help at benefits, raise money for cancer patients, and help out at our local fair selling burgers. These events have taught me not
One extracurricular activity I participate in is volunteering at my local hospital. I volunteer at Riverside Methodist Hospital and I have been volunteering there for a few months now. Some duties that I perform there include visiting patients and making sure they have everything they need. I also discharge patients when its time for them to leave. Additionally, I help greet patients and their families when they first enter the hospital. Volunteering at Riverside has prepared me for the challenges of working in a hospital environment. While volunteering I have been faced with challenges such as making sure I am respectful of families and their privacy. Travelling from each patient room I have to be able to judge whether or not it is the right
I have had the chance to work with numerous organizations across the great city of Las Vegas. My first volunteer experience was with the Rescue Mission, a local homeless shelter in Downtown Las Vegas. There, I served food and assisted the homeless. Since that moment, only 12 years old, I knew that my passion resided in service. I volunteered at the Mob Museum, a museum in the heart of the Old Downtown Area. There, I helped guide tourists and provided information about the museum and the mob. I've scheduled events of 50+ people and volunteered at Clean the World, another non-profit organization that repurposes half-used soaps from hotels and purifies them for third-world countries. I've traveled to Pioche, Nevada, on multiple occasions to help
I volunteer at two agencies that serve the most vulnerable populations in DC in health related capacities. My experiences have caused me to made me consider a career in non profit dentistry that serves the poor. I have served as a Community Service chair of an organization called 1867 at Howard University; coordinating community service activities for our members. I currently intern working with kids under 5 in nutrition and health where I do nutrition evaluations and lessons. It is so important to use your skills to help others. After a year of working with vulnerable populations of children and young adults in my home state I think will know for sure if this what I want to do for this full time for my whole career in healthcare.
I’ve volunteered at a range of places of different causes. My time and experience with these charities opened my eyes to the range of issues that they were fighting and what people were victims of. But I also learned about different cultures and how some communities will respond differently
I have volunteered at a public hospital for three years. I am not affiliated with any non-profit organization. However, I do run a project of my own it's called Feed Free. I provide food/home supply and personal hygienic items to people in need, mostly to homeless shelters. It happens every last week of the month. I am hoping to expand this project and reach out to more people. It has benefited me and my community.
Weekends are usually spent cooling down and waiting for the next school week. F I spend my saturdays and sundays usually watching football with my family. With the interest of breaking my norms, I knew I could use weekends to help others in need. While relaxing is great , but trying new things may give me the opportunity to meet new people and experiencing something new. So I decided one weekend to volunteer with Habitat for Humanity in the program, “ A Brush for Kindness.” Our job was to paint a house for a elderly woman who was unable to afford to paint her house.
“The best way to not feel hopeless is to get up and do something. Don’t wait for good things to happen to you. If you go out and make some good things happen, you will fill the world with hope, you will fill yourself with hope.” - Barack Obama It all started in the beginning of my freshman year when I started to volunteer at UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital. The volunteering experience opened and continues to open my eyes to the needs of my community and the many opportunities for community service. UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital has been open for nearly 100 years. Not only does the staff dedicate their life to their work, but 100% of what they do is for the kids. Their mission is to protect and advance the health and well-being of children. Their vision is to be a leader in children’s health. Since October, I have been volunteering
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. believed in having a “beloved community” in which everyone worked together to help one another. In my community, there are many ways that people are working together to build a his ideal society, such as different organizations that help to raise money or help to provide to people in need. Habitat for Humanity is one of the great organizations dedicated to helping people all throughout our community. Homelessness is a huge issue all over the world. I believe that if we work together to provide shelter for those who need it, we can help to create this ideal community.
