Hacksaw ridge was an incredible movie. The movie had me jumping out of my seat at some points due to the war scenes which had amazing detail into what war is really like and what happens on the battlefield. Desmond Doss showed true bravery in not bearing arms and walking into a insane battle versus the Japanese in WWII. At the beginning of the movie Doss was a kid and he was very violent compared to him in the future, in fact he hurt his brother by hitting him with a brick in the head in a fight. Doss from there saw a poster of the 10 commandments’ which he saw “Thou shall not kill” and suddenly had a revelation about life and saw the true purpose in life. This is amazing for a kid at a young age to have a revelation. This shows what Doss’s character was like from the start. …show more content…
Howell and Captain Glover treat him like and outcast. His battalion was also angry, which resulted in him being beaten by some of them because he was costing them their days off. So, he gets put on trial and was facing prison time for disobeying orders. Doss showed great resistance and stuck to his word that he had promised himself before and during the trial. His character is tested and shows how much of a pacifist he is and what he is willing to go through for what he believes in Later in the movie he talks to Smitty who is one of the guys in his battalion after a huge gory battle, and says why he never holds a gun. The reason for this was his step father who was a drunk, had a gun one night and was beating on Doss’s mom. Doss then took the gun from him and pointed it at him and just cried and didn’t pull the trigger because of what he had not only promised himself but also God. After all of what he had been through that day Doss still refused to hold a gun remaining true to his convictions, this points out how prideful and far he is willing to go for the grace of
Consider both assumption, we still recommend Pressman agree to the first year program. They will have a optimistic profit under the first assumption and even the case is worse than that, they won’t lose too much. The Slotting fee is one-time and it’s important to step into the empty market in California with a little risk.
One cold night in 1864 the tribe leader my dad moved us to sand creek because we were attacked by the settlers we got moved to reservations. We knew we wouldn't survive there so we got moved to sand creek anyway back to the story. When we got to sand creek we were surprised how dirty it looked we had to set up our tepes so we did that while my dad talked to the mountain men. After, setting up our tepes we set up our trenches my dad came back looking happy he told us we got a place. We all shouted “hurra hurra”it was time to sleep everyone went to bed. When we woke up the next morning we smelt blood and
War, war never changes. From the trenches of WWI to drones used currently, nothing truly changed. Men fight. Men die. However, for 75+ men fighting at Hacksaw Ridge that wasn’t the case. Desmond Doss single-handedly saved 75 men during one of the bloody campaigns in WWII.
The Civil War was a major point in American History. It has influenced everyone in America in many ways. The War was conducted in two main areas of the United States. These two parts were in the area east of the Mississippi River and in the area west of the Mississippi River. The control of both of these fronts was vital for victory by either the Union or the Confederacy. On March 8, 1862, a small skirmish at Pea Ridge, Arkansas led to the Union's domination of the west. The Battle of Pea Ridge had a great impact on the civil war by giving control of the west to the Federal forces (Battle).
On April 9, 1917, Canada sent out 100 000 fine men to serve and protect their country. To this day, the battle of Vimy Ridge is still known as the day Canada became a nation. Despite the cataclysm of the battle and the thousands of lost souls, Vimy Ridge is considered to be defining moments in Canadian History. The Germans were in complete control of Vimy Ridge for over two years prior to the Canadian onset. This enabled the Germans to strengthen their position, making them seem unvanquishable. The German forces were appeared to be impregnable. Nor the British armada or the French were able to vanquish the Germans. The French battled for over two years and suffered over one hundred and fifty thousand casualties. Despite the twenty divisions and three massive
The battle of Bunker’s Hill was one of the most important battles during the Revolutionary War. On June 17, 1775, the Battle of Bunker Hill took place. Fought during the Siege of Boston, it lent considerable encouragement to the revolutionary cause. This battle made both sides realize that this was not going to be a matter decided on by one quick and decisive battle. The battle of Bunker Hill was not just an unplanned, random attack on British soldiers preformed by a few crazed colonists. The battle was the result of struggle and hostility between Great Britain and the colonies for many years. The feelings of angst were due to the simple fact of the taxes the British were placing on them combined with the
The film showed me a lot about the horrors of the war. It was a very hard and long war.
In January of 1917, the 50th battalion headed north to Artios, France, the location of Vimy Ridge. Vimy ridge was a very important battle for the allies as holding the location would give them a great vantage point that overlooked the vast network of trenches on either side and No Man’s Land. It was even more important to the CEF and Canada, as it was the first time they received worldwide recognition, they were no longer seen as an afterthought of Britain. It was crucial that the allies win this battle. The next months were spent preparing and going over strategy. During this time, Colonel E.G. Mason was transferred to another battalion and replaced Lieutenant-Colonel Page. Under new command the 50th battalion was ready to on the offensive,
He is doing his duty by the book and nothing else. His position and belief as a captain made it hard for him to dispel the action he is into. Following the rules of the book is what deemed by him morally right that maintained him to be firm to it. He was blinded by his duty that he did not have any room for doubt or think if the orders being given are just. 4.
"Among the Americans who served on Iwo Island, uncommon valor was a common virtue." Those were the words of Admiral Chester W. Nimitz, who served as an Admiral on the island of Iwo Jima. He was a man who knew many, many soldiers to be his friends on the island. Admiral Nimitz, who he watched fight and die in one of the bloodiest battles of World War ll, was a man of honor and always tried to put his men in the best position possible. This battle is well worth knowing about. Especially because if it hadn’t happened, at least 24,000 lives would not have been saved. The U.S marines secured Iwo Jima after sacrificing everything they had to save the lives of others. The heart of these soldiers cannot be described in a simple essay so here is just a little bit of what these courageous troops gave up.
The name “Trail of Tears” began in 1831 with the removal of the Choctaw Nation but would be traveled by many. This long journey would be the end of many Native Americans. The Cherokee would be the hardest hit during this relocation and would come from a surprising friend so the Cherokee thought. The man that started and ended this push would be someone the Cherokee fought alongside years before.
The Gettysburg Battle The American Civil War is described as one of the bloodiest wars that the Americans have fought in. The civil war started from the people in the south beginning to want to secede from the rest of america, starting with South Carolina, Mississippi, Florida, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, and Louisiana. Later on Arkansas, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee joined the other states in the act of succession. When this happened the Southern states came together and called themselves The Confederacy while the North called themselves The Union.
Saving Private Ryan sparked debates about the moral dilemmas of war. A group of soldiers is sent to locate Private Ryan and bring him back safely. He is being taken out of combat because he is the sole surviving son, and his other two brothers have lost their lives in the war. The movie is loosely based on the story of Fritz Niland, whose brothers were killed during the war. He was sent back to the United States to serve as a Military Police officer.
There is one scene where the three flag raisers entered a crowded stadium before a football game which typified how an image of war can be so different to the reality of war. The flash photography, the cheering, the roar of the crowd all went to John Bradley’s head and he had flash backs of the fighting on Iwo Jima and the genuine heroes that he had left behind. This scene contrasts what the reality of war, were all the men are dug in and fighting for there life, and the images of war. Ira Hayes says “I know it’s a good thing, raising the money and that, ‘cause we need it. But, I can’t take them calling me a hero. All I did was try not to get shot. Some of the things I saw done, things I did, they weren’t things to be proud of, you know?” Clint Eastwood shows continuously, through his characters physiology shows how one single photo can be so different what really makes up the battle of Iwo Jima. The aim was to get war bonds; the minds of the three main characters through Clint Eastwood’s directing showed a strong insight to how the reality of a war and an image of war can be so contrasting.
When Helen was being followed by Bob, she told Link Deas and he stood up for her saying, “‘first thing you can do, Ewell, is get your stinkin’ carcass off my property… second thing you can do is stay away from my cook or I’ll have you up for assault-’”(249). By doing this Link Deas again shows courage by standing up for Helen. By doing this brave act of courage he makes a difference in Helen’s life in helping her stand up against her fear and having Bob leave her alone. Link Deas is a great example of how a person in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird can make a difference by having courage. He makes a difference in Tom’s case by giving him hope that someone believes in his innocence, and in Helen’s life by standing up for
