1. Halloween in the Halls is a night of trick-or-treat fun in the Residence Halls on campus. This program includes Hall Decorations, Activities in the Lobbies of Finegan, North, and Wehrle Hall, and trick-or-treating for children from the MLK Center along with faculty and staff’s children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews in those halls. 2. This annual event has been taking place for at least three years. I’m not sure of the exact time, but Kathleen Cahill would know the answer to that question. 3. The reason why we have this event on campus is to include residents in service opportunities. This event connects the campus to the local community with trick or treating. 4. The expected attendance is at least 150 kids. 5. I hope attendees have fun and enjoy themselves! There are entertaining activities such as pumpkin decorating, a balloon maze, and crafts. 6. …show more content…
The largest challenge of organizing this event was recruiting student volunteers. Other than that, the process of organizing this event has gone smoothly. The members of Residence Hall Association have all been very helpful with planning this event. Also, Kathleen Cahill has been crucial with finding volunteers for the event and working with the MLK Center. 7. Students can get involved by either providing candy in participating residence halls or helping direct the attendees of this event. If they’re interested in volunteering, they can email me, Julia Baumgarner, at
During my high school career, I have immersed myself in numerous clubs and committees, empowering my development as an avid leader. I have been involved in my school’s poverty club for four years. Currently as club president, I direct meetings and the implementation of our events and fundraisers for local homeless youth. Additionally, I am co-president for the organization of Moscrop Human Library, a school-wide event that breaks down stereotypes through dialogue. Being involved in the planning since 2015, I was in charge of finding speakers, gaining sponsors, and more. This year, I will be leading the event, delegating tasks, coordinating volunteers, and more. Furthermore, I have been an active member in graduation council for two years and
Halloween is the point at which you cut Jack o' Lanterns out of pumpkins, design the house with a ghoulish topic, parties, and go trap or treating way to entryway wearing ensembles. Halloween is praised by both kids and grown-ups. Kids spruce up in
Introduction: Patrons of the season of Halloween spend over $2.5 billion dollars every year on candy, costumes, and decorations. Every year millions of kids get dressed up, knock on doors, and beg for candy. Have you ever wondered where this strange tradition originated? The three most important points of Halloween can be summed up by looking at its origins, how it came to include jack-o-lanterns and bobbing for apples, and how it is celebrated today with trick-or-treating and haunted houses.
Halloween is also celebrated by dressing up in a costume and “Trick or
Ghosts, princesses, superheroes, and so many other strange characters are seen walking around during the night of October 31st, the night known as Halloween. Halloween is the night most famously known for haunted houses, candy, black cats, witches and ghosts. For one magical night a year, known as prom, teenagers get to feel and dress like princes and princesses and to attend their first formal event before becoming an adult. For that night, tiaras, limos, corsages, tuxedos and evening gowns are all the rage. Both nights are important nights when growing up, and even though they are so different, they actually have some things in common. Halloween night and prom are nights that have a similar, yet
Celebrated on October 31st, the festival of Halloween (also known as Samhain) includes dressing in costume, trick or treating, and decorating. Tracing back in history Halloween is considered to be one of America’s oldest holidays, and is still celebrated today. Halloween is believed to come from Celtic rituals. Celtics believed the cosmological myth of Saman (Lord of the Dead). Saman would call on the souls of the people that passed away that year to take them to the afterlife or underworld; the Celtic underworld identifies with the Christian Hell. In order for the spirits to believe they were on their own, the living would wear costumes and mask their identities, along with fairies, witches and demons. This functions as a cosmological myth because it provides a creation story and framework in which this universe occupies and includes many other realms of existence. Another tradition that followed was to give food to the Saman, to persuade him to be more tolerant while he judged the dead ancestors of the living, which he would chose to take to the underworld. In this essay I will further investigate what the origins of Halloween consist of and how it offers reasoning for trick-or-treating. Also I will examine how trick-or-treating, which is still continued today, is connected to ancient Celtic festivals.
B. Topic Link: The holidays connection to it’s origins have mostly fallen by the wayside, and a number of new American traditions have developed.
Waves of people arrived with arms full of canned foods; I was simply amazed at the altruism and benevolence those people possessed. The groups of people formed a semicircle and the same coordinator who I was first introduced to earlier began speaking about the event. She proclaimed that the purpose of the event hosted today was to not only provide assistance to those in need today but for many years to come. She continued by giving her countless thanks to the groups who gave a helping hand and donated their time to the Jubilee Center, as well as the event. As I looked across the crowd of people, I noticed that there were some who were very young, some still in elementary school and others who appeared wise and sagacious. Despite the difference in age, there was one thing that grouped all the people there in common: they all shared a passion to support those in
Throughout my time as an undergraduate student so far, my residential experiences have involved extensive participation in my community. Last school year, I became an assembly representative for my residence buildingʻs hall council. As an assembly representative, I was able to work with the other hall council members to plan and implement various events and programs that engaged our fellow peers and promoted learning beyond the classroom setting. This experience allowed me to advocate for the needs of my neighbors as well as unite our community.
Transition: With all holidays come celebrations, let’s talk about the festivities that helped shape Halloween today.
Every year millions of kids get dressed up, knock on doors, and beg for candy. With Halloween just around the corner, you all are probably wondering where this strange tradition came from. Every year I have experienced this holiday and have done research on this topic. According to a 2014 Smithsonian.com article, stated by Natasha Geiling, in just one year Americans spent over six billion dollars on candy, costumes, and ghoulish decor in anticipation for Halloween. Many people think all Halloween is about dressing up and going trick or treating but there's more to it than that. The roots and variations from all around are what makes Halloween what it is today. In order to understand this holiday, we will go into the history of Halloween, how it's celebrated around the world, and superstitions revolving it.
My many years of being involved in student council exposed me to discover my passion for event planning, as well as my area for improvement
Halloween: the holiday where as kids we couldn’t wait to go door to door to achieve the golden goal of a full bag of candy. Halloween soon turns into a question mark for teens; in an instant, there is a change of when it is ‘appropriate’ to go trick-or-treating and when you should just move on. Are you the one who thinks Trick-or-treating is lame or the one who still walks around your neighborhood every year -- no matter how many dirty looks you may get. What teenagers decide to do on Halloween varies: going to a party, passing out candy, staying home are a few popular options. Throughout my highschool experience I have been able to witness and experience all different types of halloteens, each with their own traits.
The ticketed event includes a special Halloween fireworks show, dressing up in your favorite costume and trick or treating. Guest can purchase
Some similar event that I have done is where I volunteered at my old high school club where my club and I created a haunted house for kids to enjoy. We decorated, had candy, and dress up to scare the kids. The haunted house was for family to come and enjoy Halloween. It was a success and I had lots of fun being part of the event.
