My favorite book is Halo: The Fall Of Reach written by Eric Nylund. The book was published October 30,2001. The book is based off of my favorite, and one of the most profitable games in the video game market called Halo. In the Story, Halo The Fall of Reach, it begins with the Glassing of a Planet. Glassing in halo means the destruction, or Ending, of a planet. The plot is the main character called Master Chief, also know as Petty Officer Sierra 117, trying to save the planet called Reach. The planet is under attack by the Covenant, which is a group of alien species that created an empire. The glassing of the planet is the start of the Spartan 2 super soldier program. This program was in response to trying to stop invasions from the aliens. The story includes many battles and losses for both sides. While in battle, one of the doctors, named Halsey, gives Master Chief, a super artificial …show more content…
This is humanities last and final efforts before other planets are destroyed. With the creation of the Spartans, super soldiers, they hoped to stop the aliens from destroying other planets. The story is about good versus evil and the constant struggle to allow good to prevail over evil despite overwhelming odds. Doctor Halsey walks the line between good and evil, she kidnaps children in order to find acceptable subjects for the Spartan program. Doing evil, in the name of doing good, good intentions but getting there by bad means. Her character is one of an intelligent woman doctor who has the best of intentions, making super soldiers that will ultimately help humanity. Making these super soldiers by hurting and harming innocent children gives her an evil twist and demented outlook on the good she is actually doing with making something that will help future generations by changing the current generation of people. She is supposed to be symbolizing hope for preserving humanity as well as destruction of
My opinion on this book is that it is a great and interesting read that captures the attention of the reader and ties in ideally to our Marine Corps values. It depicts perfectly on what it is to be a warrior whether it is past, present, or future. I think that every Marine should read this book or at least look into the history of the Spartans and their dedication to their way of life and culture of war fighting. I strongly believe the book
Every year there is a new "it" food. This year everyone that blogs about food or healthy living has talked about Halo Top. I am actively trying to lose weight, but I also have a major sweet tooth. Having heard lots of great things about Halo Top, I decided to give it a try.
Martian Chronicles is a book written by Ray Bradbury. A theme of the book is that people see or do things for a reason. The use of syntax, word choice, and imagery helps the reader to convey the theme. The syntax in Bradbury’s Martian Chronicles help readers understand the theme.
Connection The connection I make to this book is to halo because the master chief and all the other characters in halo are willing to lay down there lives for there cause just like revan because revan left the republic so that way he could stop what he feared to be the end of the
Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell was a very good book to me. Not only did it talk about military and SEAL stuff, it taught me things about life that other people have not told me. The SEALS had to train every day so that they could be ready. The training paid off for Marcus as he returned home alive from the bloody mission with a lot of wounds. Marcus taught me to never give up even when we think we can't do something.
I chose the book Lone Survivor By Marcus Luttrell because I heard a few good reviews on the book and I was really interested in the story of Marcus Luttrell. The book was 389 pages. The authors objective was to write a story about what happened in his time a lone surviving in Afghanistan. He wanted to pay respects and remember his fallen brothers. He did do this by telling the reader their lasts moments as a team and as brothers in arms. It put the reader right where he was in every moment.
“Summary”- Halo has been destroyed, and the threat it posed to sentient life, neutralized. But victory has come at a terrible cost for the UNSC. Thousands of valiant soldiers fell in the battle to prevent the alien construct from falling into the enemy’s clutches.
We saw an awe inspiring river, wide and rapid that created a natural border for Conquest Point’s city state. In the middle of the unwalled town was a fortified stone bridge that enforced the border’s sovereignty. Any ambiguous invader would certainly turn back from the fort, unable to pillage the town or general area. Hastily fashioned rafts would be of little use in getting across the raging river, and few row boats were in view. The fort’s walls were thick and tall, if you managed to fight your way through the fortified gate house on the middle of the bridge you still had to deal with the fort. Given the importance of the location of the town, I believed well trained troops were assigned to the garrison. In fact, the town looked prosperous enough to have more than a
My favorite in particular is one written by Dr. Michael Collins MD its titled “Blue Collar, Blue Scrubs: the making of a surgeon” This was the first book that I purchased for myself due to pure interested in the story. This is my favorite book because of the Dr.’s story and transition in life from a construction worker to then a surgeon at one of the top hospitals in the world (Mayo Clinic). This is the connection that I also missed from books, the ability to see somebody else’s story and have it inspire, and the ability to read literature and feel a different world of impact than that of what is seen every
Main Ideas (Theme): The main idea of the book is number four and the other Numbers 3-9 are sent to earth to hide for the Mogadorians and survive, with their Cepan\guardian to teach them the purpose of their power\legacies. The Mogadorians found the Lorien people and tried to kill the in order and Number Four and others learned how to master their powers and fight and send the mogadorians back to their planet. What i did not know that their were other books that follow the book.
In the autobiography “American Sniper” Chris kyle explains his experiences and actions that he encountered during his 4 tours as a U.S Navy Seal. Chris was a Texas cowboy, he even competed in rodeos and was living the Texas country boy dream. But while living this dream he had realized after seeing a news report on the war in iraq that he wanted something more. What he meant by something more was he wanted to serve his country, so the next day he went to the U.S navy recruiter and talked to him about joining the service. Push came to shove and Chris shipped off to his first taste of becoming a seal the school known as “Boat School”. While at boat school he had realized that he was serious about becoming a seal and he set his goal to make it
I believe that the “War of the Worlds” is an classic because H. G well make an exciting plot , standard character an old fashion setting to make “The War of the Worlds” a story for the ages. This story is a great read it has every an great book has climax ,betrayal , emotional conflict ,physical conflict and drama .This is the original alien invasion story “Wells” show how the Martian are more advance then earth an how they planned to take over earth with such great detail. He put conflicts between some of the characters so not everyone in the story gets along he gives the characters concision he show the human nature in people .In the story the narrator borrowed a cart for a guy but instead of him just escaping he returned the cart and ended
The 1986 film The Mission depicts the relation of the Jesuits as a type of enlightening force for the Guarani people, that is able to organized theses people in way that was not before possible. The representation of the priest as these great liberators of knowledge by the movie is flattery, the natives where indeed capable of organizing themselves as a society that the films choses to ignore. The Guarani where not the pure molds that the movie presents, they contained there own original and optioned ideas on how society works after contact with the Jesuits and in the missions, a notable example of their ideas can be seen in religion. The natives are shown throughout the film of having weak constitution to their traditional spirituality, and this was not the cause in history. My argument is, the Guarini where not the passive molds for Christianity presented in the film, but where actually relatively organized in them believes of spirituality and held strong options on the subject. Supporting the argument against the films take will include: Ruiz de Montoya’s The Spiritual Conquest, a primary source form the prospective of a Jesuit priest during the time of The Mission; James Schofield Seager’s The Mission and Historical Missions: Film and the Writing of History, focuses on the historical issues riddled within the film; and lecture notes form Dr. Austin, discussing the actuality of what occurred in during the time period of The Mission.
I am certain that when some students choose this subject for their Honors Program essay, they choose a lofty tome like Ulysses or something hip, yet old enough to be a classic, like On The Road. There is not a doubt in my mind that the book that changed my outlook on the world was American Gods by Neil Gaiman. Sure, it is a novel, it is fantasy. At times it is dark, at times it is funny, but it has just enough roots in the real world to suspend belief. Even for a few moments as you read, you are drawn into the world of the main character, Shadow, as he discovers that gods are real. All kinds of gods, pagan gods, Egyptian gods, gods of trains and televisions. Shadow is surrounded by them and is suddenly involved in a war between the old gods and the new. It is a wonderfully written book and Gaiman always has a trick up his sleeve, just like the con men in the novel.
H.G. Wells, author of mind blowing novel The War of The Worlds, used foreshadowing and both external and internal conflicts to show the theme those humans should not assume that they are the superior race. Wells was the author of more than 100 books, almost half of them nonfiction, published over a span of 52 years.
