Hamlet: Is Hamlet Sane Or Insane?

This leads to bring more drama in the play. Another situational irony is Hamlet’s death in Act V scene ii. Most readers would assume that hamlet the main character would end up slaying his fathers murderer and become the new king of Denmark . Unfortunately Shakespeare was no cliché righter and at the end of the film hamlet dies from a poisoned sword which was poisoned by Laertes the son of the man hamlet murdered .

There are many ways one could argue whether or not Hamlet is insane or that he really is a psycho killer. Along those lines, I believe that Hamlet did in fact go completely bonkers and everything that happened that was not in the presence of the king or queen was just a figment of his imagination. After contemplating this I've made up a conclusion why exactly I think he is insane.

If fact, Hamlet waits so long to tell anyone or to do anything about the revenge he swore to his fathers ghost, he begins to question his courage, knowing he has been all talk and no action. Hamlet also decides that before he takes his revenge, he will find out for himself if the ghost is telling the truth. It is a huge controversy whether or not Hamlet is actually insane. I believe that hamlet was not crazy. Starting out Hamlet fakes his insanity to distract Gertrude and Claudius from his true intentions of exposing his uncle for the murder of his father. We know this is pretending to be crazy because he mentions it several times to Horatio.

The insanity of a person can be contributed through the trauma that is caused by a few events in a person’s life, but in the play Hamlet, William Shakespeare wrote the main character prince Hamlet experiences a few dramatic events from the play which his attitude changes throughout. Hamlet does an outstanding job of acting insane throughout the play, so good, in fact, that his insanity is questioned to actually be truthful. The answer to Hamlet's madness lies in the actual reasons for his insanity. Although Hamlet’s constant altering behavior was scrutinized by individuals as being psychotic, we can not forget that his father was just murdered and he wishes to uncover the truthfulness of his father’s death and avenge the killer. Hamlet chooses to to change his behavior in order to try to put pressure on Claudius to reveal the truth of his father’s murder, he displays rational and intelligent thinking in planning as well as in responding to unplanned situations, and he has been upset by the recent events that have happened in his life, all of which could create a false image of insanity.
