Every thespians dream is to recite the “To be or not to be. . .” monologue from the famous play Hamlet, written by the brilliantly talented William Shakespeare. I never thought I would be in that play nor be in that scene. I would have never thought I would be in the famous play ever in my seventeen years of living on this planet. If it weren’t for my mother nudging me to go and audition for the play at my school, I would have never been where I am right now. Taking it back to the building of the district office in my hometown of Joliet, Illinois, I was only a toddler when I got a letter saying I had a developmental delay. I didn’t talk till the age of three or four at the time. My parents took me into speech therapy where I would spend around two hours a day in either a classroom or an office (I went to two schools and one office during those five years). I went from that district building to Marycrest Elementary School for only a year till my parents transferred me over to St.Patrick’s School, a very small Catholic K-8 school. I, a sixteen (at the time) girl was playing a fifty-year-old male who killed a brother so he can have the throne. Playing a guy, for me personally, was weird and difficult because Claudius had a lot of power yet hid so much from his family and friends.
