Life in North Vietnam, during the Vietnam War, changed drastically after the Geneva Accords were signed and Vietnam split into two parts. Ho Chi Minh became President of North Vietnam after he fought and removed French power from Vietnam. During Minh’s reign, he turned Vietnam into a Communist dictatorship and fought the American-controlled South Vietnam. Religion changed to become a way to fight the dictatorship rather than a way to achieve enlightenment. Labor Camps were started and rebels were thrown in to work. Life degraded into slums and has not been much better since Vietnam has been getting aid from Russia.
Vietnam has a very rich and cultural diverse background dating all the way back to 1066 when William the Conqueror invaded and paved the way for English colonization.
Born on August 20, 1952, three years before the Vietnam War, my uncle and his family were forced to migrate from North Vietnam to South Vietnam. As an intelligent boy with an ambitious dream, Anthony had not known of the land of freedom until tragedy struck. After World War II and until 1955, France worked hard to reign over Vietnam. Unfortunately, with a poorly organized army and little determination among the troops,
Vietnam is a southeastern Asian country that has been occupied by the French since the early 19th Century. During War War II Japanese forces invaded Vietnam. In order for the native Vietnamese to fight off both the French Colonial Administration and the invading Japanese, political leader Ho Chi Minh inspired by Soviet Communism, established the League of Independence of Vietnam. After Japan’s defeat in World War II in 1945, the Japanese withdrew their forces from Vietnam. The French educated Emperor Bao Dai was now back in control of Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh saw this as an opportunity to finally gain control and almost immediately took control of the northern city of Hanoi. Ho Chin Minh declared himself as president. In hopes to regain control of Hanoi, France backed Emperor Bao and created the state of Vietnam in 1949. Although both sides wanted the same goal of uniting Vietnam, their government views were drastically different. Ho and his followers wanted the nation to be modeled after other communist countries. While Bao and his followers wanted their country to be in close ties with democratic countries in the west. These causes led to a civil war for the sole control of Vietnam.
Vietnam has a very rich history that often goes unnoticed and unaccounted for, this is most likely due to the war being such a big landmark in the history of Vietnam. Before the war many events transpired that would eventually lead up to the war. In the late 19th century Vietnam was considered to be a French colony. The French built their own standing infrastructure, they began to build railways and roads and bridges. All of this building meant heavy taxation on the Vietnamese. This was all good and progressive for vietnam however “Naturally the Vietnamese wanted independence.” (http://www.localhistories.org/viethist.html) From there Ho Chi Minh founded a revolution and within 20 years Vietnam came under Ho Chi Minh rule.
The surprizing thing that I recognized when I studied at college is the way people greet each other around the world. After asking someone about name, we usually inquire about where he or she is from. I believe that we ask, not just to indentify the location of where our acquaintances live, but because we realize that their answers tell more about them. My answer for the question “where are you from?” is always Vietnam, my home country. For every Vietnamese like me, home is an important and meaningful part of our life. It becomes a vital part in our culture. The more I live far away from my house, the more I know how it is important to me. Moreover, I acknowledge that not only our homes define who we are but we also define our homes.
“The Communist Party of Vietnam [CPV], became the ruling party, in the northern part of Vietnam, after defeating the French, at Dien Bien Phu, in 1954 and across the nation, since 1976, following the collapse of the American-backed southern regime. The next decade saw the CPV’s rationalist installation of a Stalinist-style centrally planned economy” (Nguyen, 2016, p. 33). The social structure of Vietnam based on total control, Nguyen’s family like many others found it impossible to adjust to the tyranny imposed by the Communist regime, therefore, they fled Vietnam!
Historically after the Fall of Saigon in 1975, waves of Vietnamese natives fled Vietnam to escape from the economic sanctions and political turmoil due to the Communist regime. Many surviving refugees ended up and later established Vietnamese communities in the United States. The most well-established and largest Vietnamese communities is Little Saigon, located in the center of Orange County, California, where nearly 200,000 Vietnamese Americans reside. Once an ethnic enclave for the Vietnamese refugees who fled their war-torn nation, Little Saigon is now contained a diverse Vietnamese demographic, including the first generation, 1.5 generation, and second generation of Vietnamese Americans. However, little is known about how the younger generations of Vietnamese, growing up in the United States, view Little Saigon.
They had many different rulers including the Ly and Tran Dynasties. “Vietnam is the easternmost country of the Indochinese Peninsula”, and is bordered to the east and south by the China Sea. Vietnam is bordered to the north by China, and it is bordered to the west by the countries of Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia. Vietnam is a very long and narrow country and it appears to be an the shape of an “S”. Vietnam has both a Tropical zone and a Temperate zone, with tropics and mountains.
The trip always has to start at the dawn of a new day where the sun is just beginning to peek out on to the world. We load up our boat and set off for one of the most unique places on Mobile Bay. The ride to the canal is fairly short, yet full of great and anticipation of what we may catch

conspiracy to incite riots at the 1968 Democratic Convention. During the trial, Federal Judge Julius Hoffman deemed one of the defendants, Black Panther Party Leader Bobby Seale, disruptive and had him bound and gagged on the witness stand. Kunstler stated that he was appalled to be a part of a legal system that would condoned “...putting a black man in chains”(Disturbing the Universe). In another instance, In 1971, Attica Correctional Facility near Buffalo New York was taken over by its inmates and 9 guards were held hostage.
