Everybody has their own way to define the word happiness. Happiness has a different point of view for people. On my side, happiness is a mental and emotional state of well -being. There is happiness in being creative in dealing with problems achievement of wanting results because better is not enough the best is yet to come. Looking for happiness within myself sometimes be the most significant thing to accomplish. It is necessary to know that it has functional relationships with other people. People thought and knowing themselves helps them move forward with their life as well as provide a sense of peace and fulfillment. Happiness has to be shared with other people and helping others. In Tanzania, esteem to elders helps to have happiness in the society. Respect for their elder is very important within their culture. Children are expected to learn new things and respect from their family elders and respect wisdom, ability and seniority within the family regardless of their own wealth and success. For instance, when my father came back from New York last week, my sisters and I had to kneel down to greet him “Shikamoo Baba” which means good morning father. He was happy to see his daughters still respect their culture. In my country, “Shikamoo” is a universal Swahili language greeting and it is an expression of respect. In “Titi La Mama,” Shaban Robert describes how Swahili languages gave him happiness and he respects Swahili which is lovely language “One's mother's breast is the sweetest, no other so satisfies.” In general, the most natural way which develops happiness for Tanzania is to greet an elderly and bow down. In the U.S, senior citizen is treated similar but in different ways. People respect seniors, stay together in households and tried to have happy environment all the time. Greeting elders are the same as to nobles, more likelihood for families to live away from their old parents. The United Republic of Tanzania regard dance as a significant event. For instance, Grace who live in Tanzania. She always loves to dance for special events such as, wedding ceremonies and Independence Day. Therefore, it makes her happy when she dances and keep a good memory for her special event. Moreover, dance take place during hunting and planting, praise their culture. Dance is a part of learning from the previous generation. Also, it is tradition and it is not self-expression. On the radio stations, reporters play more of own country’s own music than foreign music. Americans like to dance as a fashion and way of relaxation, mainly play jazz, rock and hip pop music that will make them happy. Professionals get first priority in radio stations. In the poem by author Shaban Robert enjoyed his culture from Tanzania because it was the only way which will make him happy.
In sum, there are several ways is the idea of happiness similar in my culture and American culture which are danced as cultural heritage, the attitude of regarding older people and family as the central unit. Moreover, happiness in my culture and American culture shape the lives of children, families and the village. Analyzing cultural norms means to determine a model way of life and it is a way of understanding how countries and people interact on a local, national, and international
