Imagery was another device used in Knight’s writing. He uses the image of a stallion preparing to be let loose from a cage only to find the stallion is already free. He uses the first person as the main speaker of the narrative as the other prisoners who admired the hero/prisoner. As well as, jargon used by the black prisoners,’ for instance, Hard Rock! Man, that’s one crazy nigger.” (p.261)
