The first scene where Billy first shows that hard work pays off is when he decides he wants coonhounds. Billy knows that his parents can not get him the dogs, so that is when Billy decides he needs to save up for the dogs himself. This supports the theme because this evidence states that he needs to work very hard in order to get the pups. Billy is very persistent in working day and night for his soon to come pups. Billy works for 2 years in order to get his pups which takes a lot of persistence and determination, but eventually it pays off. One other scene where Billy shows hard work pays off is when had treed his first coon. This example states when Billy treed his first coon he had to get him out of the tree. Billy had told his dogs before he had gone for the coon that it would be their first one and if the dogs treed the coon then Billy would get it out. Billy starts chopping at the wood giant sycamore and starts chopping away every day for 2 weeks non-stop. This specific piece of text evidence proves that Billy is dedicated and is keeping his word at getting the tree cut down. To go into deeper depth Billy would get up at the crack of dawn(sometimes he did not even sleep) and go straight to hacking in any condition his body was in or weather. Eventually, he cut down the tree and …show more content…
Billy makes a bet about hunting the ghost coon. For a while the ghost coon plays tricks that make the coon really hard to follow, but Billy is still on the tail of the coon. When Billy gets to the tree the coon supposedly “disappears” at he lose track of the coon. After a while he starts to give up hope, but he eventually finds the coon. This section of evidence shows that hard work pays off because when Billy was looking for the coon by the tree Billy had lost it, but because Billy was persistent and continued searching that enabled him to find the ghost
A blizzard with deafening roars of wind and whitening snow settled in and Billy’s dogs were no where to be found. Even though the group wanted to head back to camp, Billy kept looking for his dogs and used determination with a little help with people from the camp to obtain his dogs back. The theme, determination, helped Billy numerous amount of times to save someone from getting hurt or killed in the novel.
In the movie Where The Red Fern Grows a boy by the name of Billy works hard and gets a pair of hunting coons to hunt with. After training them hard and getting their names known across the town billy made a bet with twins that lived in the town. The Pritchard boys wanted to bet that Billy and his coons could not tree the ghost coon. The night the bet was to take place Billy's coons treed the ghost coon but Billy refused to kill it. Then one of the twins was going to kill him and in the ghost coons defense billy tripped him. He landed on Billys ax and was killed. The coons and Billy went through many rough times but still pushed through. After winning the championship cup Billy's grandfather entered them in both dogs passed away. After that Billy's whole family used the prize money and moved to the
I found this on pages 23, 24. In the first set of chapters Billy shows a lot of perseverance. One example is he had to get $50 for the pups he really wanted. The reason this shows perseverance is because it took him 2 years to get.
Second of all, Billy is determined to have enough money so he can get the two hunting hounds. Billy will do anything until he gets enough money for the hounds. For example, “Billy caught crawfish, trapped minnows with an old trap, picked huckleberries, and etc.”(22).Billy really wants the two dogs that's why is he is raising money by selling food, to the fisherman and his grandpa. Therefore, Billy is tired of waiting that why he is “on his way to Tahlequah, and is going to get his dogs”(30). This shows that he is determined to bring his
In chapter three of Where the Red Fern Grows, Billy’s mother told Billy that “God will help those that help themselves” (Rawls 3.18). This quote played a significant role in Billy’s life because throughout the book he perseveres through situations that most people would give up. For example, when Billy saved up the money for the dogs (3.17-24) it was his determination and his belief that God would help him if he helped himself (3.18) that got him to the point that he was able to afford the dogs. Part of Billy’s character is that he is kind and determined, but he is not only determined but he is thankful for everything he gets.
Later, in chapter 9 it says, “...give me the strength to finish the job.” This shows Billy not giving up because he so badly wants to finish doing his job even though he is out of energy. This also shows the quote because he will not let go of
On pages 131-133, Billy was determined to save Little Ann and Old Dan from the water. Little Ann went into the water to save Old Dan from the water. Little Ann was lucky to save Old Dan from the water — but was luckless to save herself. Billy couldn’t hear Little Ann in the water, but could hear Old Dan in the large sycamore that had fallen in the river. His determination was brought on by fear of his dogs, Little Ann and Old Dan. Billy came as fast as he could and turned on his lanter to see better. “If she gets down in that old tree top, she’ll drown.” is what billy said to rubin while they were panicking about Little Ann when she was in trouble in the water. Little Ann made it out fairly safe. She saw the ghost coon in the distance. Little Ann went chasing after the ghost coon. The coon got his name by disappearing out of nowhere when when he gets tired. Billy was determined to catch the ghost coon, and this might be his chance. He saw that Little Ann was 15 feet behind the ghost coon and Old Dan was 25 yards behind Little Ann. Billy was very determined that he thought that this would be the time to whoop his dogs. They finally caught the ghost coon! This was a very big goal that took hard work and determination for not only the dogs, but Billy too. Billy trained them and motivated them to catch the ghost
His father knew that he was chopping down the largest tree in the woods. However, he did not supervise Billy, so he must have believed Billy was ready for a task like this. By chopping down this tree, Billy was learning persistence and independence, two very important life skills. In addition, by chopping down this tree, he was growing into and proving himself a man. Chopping down a tree is work for a grown man, and though he was only 10 years old, Billy chopped down that tree. Billy showed that he was not a boy anymore; he was a
In Where the Red Fern Grows, the main character, Billy, faces many challenges and attempts to overcome them in his own way. First, he wants a dog; he considered it ‘dog fever.’ He did cling to the hope that someday his with would be fulfilled and he would have a dog, but not just any dog, a coon hound. And he wants two of them. After struggling for two years, Billy finally gets enough money to be able to buy the coon hounds in question.
Billy does not have any ambition he just reacts to circumstances that happen to him. He wife face gives him an optometry office to run. He married valenca just because she is there not because he is in love with her. “I is so sort and jumbled and jangled”(pg.19) he takes the path of less resistance rather than navigating the complex path of life. Krebs also lacks motivation, direction, and ambition he lives with his parents and does not have a job. He “sleeps late in bed” every day for him is like a vacation rather than real life. Krebs father thinks he has “lost his ambition, that you haven't got a different aim in life”(pg.75). His parents think it is time for him to move on from the war and make something of his life. The war affect both billy and krebs in a major way the weight of the war crushed their
The trauma Billy has experienced is shown in an absurd light. He believes himself to be time traveling. He believes that he has been abducted by aliens who look like toilet plungers, and that they are keeping him in a
Billy Budd is responsible for his own death. There are times when taking someone’s life is necessary such as a time of war, but not in a heating argument. Captain Vere, said it best that the crime is what they were worried about, not the case between right and wrong. The crime was murder. Billy was a hard worker who would do his best to help anyone out. However, Billy was not judged on the type of man he was he was judged by the action that had taken place.
100 years before the Exodus, Abram who is now Abraham, the man some believe is the founder of Judaism made a covenant which is a promise or agreement with God whom they believed made the earth which we see in Genesis 17: 1-27. God changed Abram’s name to Abraham as he made him the father of a multitude of nations and promised him all the land he could see and his wife, a son as she could not have one if Abraham and all his offspring’s obeyed God. God also asked Abraham for him and all his male offspring’s and future male generation to be circumcised in the flesh of their foreskins which would be seen as a sign of Abraham and God's covenant. They did believe
Moments in Billy's life change instantaneously, not giving Billy a clue to where he will end up next. In one moment, he is sitting in his home typing a letter to the local newspaper about his experience with the Tralfamadorians, and in the next he is a lost soldier of World War II running around behind German lines aimlessly without a coat or proper shoes. He then became a child being thrown into a pool by his father and afterwards a forty-one year old man visiting his mother in an old people's home. In the novel, changes in time are made through transitional statements such as, "Billy traveled in time, opened his eyes, found himself staring into the glass eyes of a jade green mechanical owl." p.56 In the movie there is no such thing and different moments in Billy's life happen instantaneously. Because scenes are continuous as times change, the movie better displays the author's attempt to capture in the notion of being "unstuck in time." On the other hand, the novel does help the audience follow these time changes better by setting it up for the next scene, offering a background of Billy's experiences before they begin through these transitional statements.
Billy’s determination is shown through the juxtaposing movements and camera angles of the opening and last scene of the film. In the opening scene of the film we are shown Billy jumping and dancing along with the non diegetic sound of Cosmic Dancer by T.Rex. The lyrics “I danced myself right out of the womb,” foreshadows Billy’s destiny and desire to dance which is conflicted towards the expectations of his father. Through the use of a close ups and slow motion it allows the audience see Billy’s lively facial expressions, highlighting his innocence. This is juxtaposed to his sharp and precise movements shown in the final scene through close ups and worm eye view, signifying Billy’s dominance and power, which he initially lacked.
