So it goes, for the past two hundred eight years a member of the Gotitright family has governed the Blue Planet, as if it was a piece of property the family personally owned. Thus, in 2328, the ancestral domain rest in the hands of Harold Gotitright. Since, he alone cannot control the planet’s populace or enforce the laws, which he writes daily, he must therefore rely on the traditional puppet government, The Committee of Twelve to handle the day-to-day minutia. In light of that the Planet consists of the thirteen sections, in which the Prime Class lives in Section One, and within the other sections the Nonmechanical and Mechanical classes’ cohabitate. During any given year the Committee of Twelve spends one hour each month
The passage which is called "Dr. Blue" by Anne Panning is a story written in 2nd person which takes place in a hospital where your mother is not feeling well. As I read the final chapter of Paul Chappell’s book, The Cosmic Ocean, I was interested to see how he was going to bring it all together. Chappell ended this book in a different way, not only did he wrap up previous arguments that he had stated earlier in the book, but he also introduced more new information in the final chapter. This information did not take his arguments in a different direction, but rather solidified and backed up some things that he mentioned in previous chapters. Chappell took the readers back to the first time he realized the mortality that existed in life, the moment he lost a flip flop and there was nothing he or his dad could do to bring it back because it had fallen into a sewer drain. This story led to Chappell discussing humanity’s obsession with immortality.
“... Has nobody observed that as soon as the government becomes the property of a separate class, it starts to grow out of all proportion and that posts are created not to meet the needs of the governed but of those who govern them?...” (Sieyès).
In the TED Talk “How to Live to be 100+”, Dan Buettner talks about lifestyles that are helping people live to be 100+. According to the Danish Twin Study, biology only factors into 10 percent of how long we live, the other 90 percent it based off lifestyle (Buettner 2009). Dan Buettner and his colleagues found three Blue Zones to try to find what types of lifestyles these people are living to become centenarians. Blue Zones are places where people live longer than the majority of people in the world. The Blue Zones are in Sardinia, Okinawa, and Loma Linda, California. They found similarities in their lifestyles that help them to live to be 100+. Those similarities are: they do not do strenuous exercise, have a period of down time, have a word
Often the two become confused: lives and human tragedy are considered a product, something that will engender interest and thereby generate revenue. The greater the suffering, the more successful the program and the greater market share.
The Indian Ocean Maritime System was a society of seafarers established across the IndianOcean and South China Sea.
Where to begin? In the beginning of the book Red Mars, the character Arkady states that “History is not evolution! It is a false analogy! Evolution is a matter of environment and chance, acting over millions of years. But history is a matter of environment and choice, acting within lifetimes, and sometimes within years, or months, or days! History is Lamarckian! ” (Robinson 88). Arkady is stating that we choose our own history. Over the course of the book, the story of Mars twists and turns, and becomes something completely different. Mars changes from red to green.
Like how seasons are the changes on land, they can also be apply to oceans in temperate latitudes. The most productive seas on the planet are the seasonal seas because they border the temperate parts of the world where conditions change throughout the year. The power of the sun is constantly changing; hence there are different seasons even under the seas due to the different in sunlight radiation. In the far north, summers are warm and gentle, while winters are wracked by savage storms. Sable Island, southeast of Nova Scotia in the Atlantic Ocean is home to the world’s largest colony of gray seal, about 100,000 seals come to breed here each year. The climate at this location is heavily influenced by the sea and being located in the path of major frontal storms and cyclones, precipitation is high. Around March, the seas have warmed enough to trigger phytoplankton to appear. Phytoplankton is tiny algae, each smaller than a pinhead. During this time of the year, phytoplankton reproduces with an amazing speed and produces more annual growth than all the parts on land together. They
Those two classes are the ones who rule and the second is the rest who do not rule. According to the text, “Government is always government by the few, whether in the name of the few, the one, or the many” (13). Those who make up the elites are generally the wealthier population. The Big Four is an example of elites who used their political power to control those who do not have their own power. The Big Four helped contribute to California’s land development and growth.

Just how people don’t judge a book by its cover, don’t do the same to fairy tales. Fairy tales are more than what they appear to be. They are far more than children’s bedtime readings. Although, they aren’t extensive, they pack a considerable amount of information and leave space for interpretation. They reveal the truth of how the world can be unfair and people can be cruel. Most fairy tales have been rewritten, some more than others. The later versions have been sugar-coated and made to be appropriate children’s stories. In the tale, “Bluebeard”, by Charles Perrault, which is not sugar-coated, has an unexpected theme in comparison to most fairy tales. This wealthy man has a blue beard, which all women are repulsed by. He wants to get married, so he sways the girl by hosting a party that last an entire week. They get married and soon after, the husband must go for a business trip, tells the wife to enjoy herself by inviting her friends over and before he leaves, he gives her one rule to follow. Her actions lead to the repercussions that follow her. Before describing the tale, certain characteristics come to mind when thinking of fairy tales, such as magic, animals, protagonist, villain, royalty, etc. One critical aspect that fairy tales contain is a moral. In the fairy tale, “Bluebeard”, there may seem to be more than one theme or lesson to be learned, but one critical moral is how curiosity can lead to the downfall of disobedience.
Within each regime, there are the farmer, the working element and craftsmen, the marketing element and traders, the laboring element, the warrior element, the priests (Aristotle skips this sixth element but suggests this possibility), the rich, and the magisterial (1290b:40; 1291a:5-35). Within regimes are two distinctive classes and forms of government which are the
Intimate partner violence is characterized not only by physical violence, but also sexual, emotional, and mental violence through the use of threats (Understanding Intimate Partner Violence, 2011). In Black and Blue, Anna Quindlen delves into the mind of a woman who faces intimate partner violence in her everyday life. Fran, or Beth, and her son attempt to get away from Fran’s abusive cop husband. While Black and Blue is a fiction novel, its points about intimate partner violence hold true in many cases such as the breaking of traditional gender roles, high levels of stress, alcohol overconsumption, and learned behavior.
