Book Summary Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by J.K. Rowling is the sixth novel in the seven-part Harry Potter Series. Each novel primarily details a year in the life of Harry Potter, the main character and protagonist, as he attends Hogwarts, a magic-focused school for witches and wizards, while the seventh and final novel focuses on his experiences directly after. Half-Blood Prince describes Harry’s sixth year and final year at Hogwarts. In this chapter of the series, Harry continues with his studies in school, and grapples with the rapidly changing world around him. The overarching plot of both the novel and series chronicles Harry existence as “The Boy Who Lived”, a nickname bestowed upon him when he, as a baby, was the only person to survive an attack from Lord Voldemort, an extremely powerful wizard who desires to rid the world of all non-magical people. During this attack, Harry inexplicably was able to vanquish Voldemort, the main antagonist of the series. Voldemort’s attempts to return from his dissolution and finish his mission form the chief conflict and backdrop to Harry’s adventures at Hogwarts. In Half-Blood Prince, Harry attempts to maintain his routine life in the wake of Voldemort’s return to power, unveiled in a battle that resulted in the deaths of several of Harry’s friends.
