Maybe you think New York Mets pitcher Matt Harvey hit rock bottom last week when he stood in front of his home crowd at Citi Field and proceeded to get thrashed by the division rival Washington Nationals to the tune of nine runs (six earned) in just 2.2 innings. Then, the Dark Knight of Gotham stepped on the mound this week with a chance at redemption against the Nats, only to get knocked around again, allowing three home runs and five earned runs in 5.0 innings. The Nationals won both games, which were never close. So, maybe Harvey has hit rock bottom, or maybe he’ll get clobbered again in his next scheduled start. Multiple beat reporters tweeted that the Mets were not going to skip a Harvey start, demote, or place Harvey on the designated …show more content…
Rumors of Harvey being a big time party guy float around quite regularly. Mets fans think it’s great to have New York’s next big playboy baseball star now that Derek Jeter has retired. But when you don’t perform up to what is expected, being seen partying isn’t the best look. Mets fans may be patient, for now, since Harvey is such a popular player, but it will wear thin fast. He also doesn’t appear to be taking care of his body as well as he has in the past, which is another occurrence Mets fans will get on him …show more content…
Perhaps Harvey will take Wright’s words in stride, realize his mistake, and be a leader in accountability going forward. Or, perhaps Harvey takes it as a personal attack from a struggling veteran and lets it get in the way of his relationships with teammates. Harvey hasn’t always displayed the most maturity, so this is a big moment for him. If he doesn’t step up to the challenge, it could single-handedly derail this talented Mets team that has as good a shot as any in the National League to make the World
Bryce Harper is the player that you love to have on your own team, but opponents can't stand him! He might have a swagger that annoys opponents, but he is one heck of a baseball player and this year he is breaking out to the superstar everyone expected! He is just 22 years of age and he is one of the most feared hitters in baseball. He has battled injuries to start his career because of what some have termed too much hustle, but this year he has put all together. He is hitting .331 27 home runs and 64 runs batted in the no question NL MVP at this point in the season. He might rub fans and opponents the wrong way but he is fun to watch play baseball I just wish as a Braves fan he was in a different division.
hit home runs but is given a broken bat to use. He doesn't have the chance to prove
Kowar worked quickly in the top of the fourth, getting a fly out and a line out before Jackson Lueck singled to left — the Noles’ third two-out hit of the night. What happened next is a pitcher’s
He has been here for the past twenty seasons and I´ve got to say, everyone that comes to any of the games here, leaves with a smile on their face, even if the Red Soxs lost. Mark has learned and taught so much. The people love his voice and listen to him because he is the voice of reason around here. I remember his sixteenth season here. People were arguing in the front row, just behind the dugout. They were saying that the family of African Americans don´t belong in the front row and they should scram. Mark got out of the dugout and jumped up top of it. He asked what the problem was even though he already knew what the commotion was about.. He listened and showed that he was caring. He asked the American family why the other family couldn’t be seated there there, they bought these seats with the same money that you bought you seats in the back row with. It’s all the same money, they make the same money as you, so why do you want to argue when there is a beautiful baseball game being played? There is no reason to make them feel bad. People come to the stadium to relax and be stress free, unless the Yankees are in town. So please leave this family alone. The family went back to their seats while the other family thanked him. The people loved his voice and always listened. That was one of his many
Saturday was the day of the try outs and Chris was the only one who wasn't involved in a chat. First he tried out at the batting cages to hit. Every pitch the coach threw at Chris was hit right back at him. Chris knew his hitting was the second best of his skills, so he knew he could make the team if he was weak in the other skills. Then arrived to pitch, he struck out every guy that came up to bat for practice. Chris also felt he was the most accurate pitcher there so his hopes of making the team were still strong. However, his confidence broke down when he was fielding. Every bouncer that came at him just wired right past him. He felt so embarrassed, but when he arrived at pop flies he caught all of them he felt great. Chris was confident he would
When Volquez went to the mound to start off the game it was kind of a bittersweet moment for not just the team and everyone that knew around him. For the last game of the World Series last night he started off on the mound once again, didn't start off so good ending with a 4.50 ERA they took him out around the 6th inning. Lots of people would say he had his father on his mind, some people say he should have never started the game under that condition. Not even giving him any sympathy they went right to using his dad's death to say why he didn’t do so good now is that right, or is it just the world we live in. Daniel Murphy who was name MVP of the National League Championship Series (NLCS) for his postseason performance this year.
Julio Teheran anchoring the pitching staff, after a rocky start to the season and then finishing off the season strong look for Teheran to come out firing on April 4th against the Nationals after a strong Spring Training.
Jorge Posada has seen and been through it all, he has seen the best and worst of the team and as well put a career that might not pop out to your face as maybe the others of the Core Four. But if you look deeper, you would realize that Jorge Posada is more than ready to become the first of the Core Four and as well the 18th catcher to be enshrined in Cooperstown, New
All those years of Jackie playing baseball allowed him to experience racism first hand. With that experience Jackie was able to understand that no person should have to put up with this. Jackie had to walk by the people that were threatening him and throwing rocks and food, he had to walk by them. The baseball stadium was supposed to be his happy place. But that is no longer the case for Jackie because he has to do his best not just for him or the team. To prove to all the haters that there is a reason why he is here. And there is a small part of him that is always looking over his shoulder. Cause who knows what might happen when your back is turned. Before he exits the dugout before every game all these thought run through his head and he has to
4,360 days — That’s how long it took former No. 1 overall pick Matt Bush to make his major league debut. Bush’s career, long looked at as a tragedy, can now take on a different narrative: redemption.
Among all the media that covered Matt Harvey’s injury and treatment options for TOS, the New York Daily News did probably the most informative one. Their piece titled “Knight Falls Again - Shoulder woe sends Harvey to DL, doctor”, discussed Matt Harvey’s shoulder injury and went on to highlight that the Mets pitcher could be facing season-ending surgery.
The TV cameras documented a verbal exchange between Machado and Pedroia in the aftermath of the ejections. Machado seemed to be accusing Pedroia of instigating the payback, while Pedroia vehemently denied it, claiming if he were behind the beaning attempt it would have happened during Game 1 of the series. Pedroia followed that by saying, “It's not me, it's them," meaning the Barnes/Christian Vazquez battery. As the heart and soul of the Red Sox, and as great of a player as Pedroia is, it's surprising he would publicly deflect blame for the beaning to his teammates. Even if that claim is true, there's a time and place for everything, and Pedroia probably should have had the exchange with Machado privately and not exposed his teammates so openly.
I sincerely apologize to everyone that I offended with my actions. I deeply regret it.” Darvish, the pitcher who he had made the racial actions to responded as well saying, “No one is perfect. That includes both you and I. What he had done today isn’t right, but I believe we should put our effort into learning rather than to accuse him. If we can take something from this, that is a giant step for mankind. Since we are living in such a wonderful world, let’s stay positive and move forward instead of focusing on anger. I’m counting on everyone’s big love.”
In a season full of “pinstriped” ups and downs, Beltran has become the one constant in a less than stellar lineup. After Monday nights heroics, Beltran now stands at third on the club in batting average (.288), first in home runs (14), and first in RBI’s with 36; as well as leading the Bombers in categories such as games played, total bases, hits, doubles, slugging percentage and OPS. Not too shabby for a guy that looked like his best days were behind him,
Over the last two seasons, Ruf’s production has been very similar to Howard’s, albeit in a smaller sample size. In just 370 total at bats, Ruf hit .235 in each of the last two seasons, while Howard racked up 1,036 at bats over that span. In spring training this year, Ruf's numbers were significantly better than Howard’s. Ruf hit .286 this spring while Howard batted just .220. Ruf's production in spring training can continue into the regular season if given the chance to be a starter. The former Creighton Bluejay would be able to play without fear of being benched and truly concentrate on being the best player he can
