The book that I am writing a book report is 'Hatchet'. It is written by Gary Paulsen. This is about a boy who survived at isolated forest of northern Canada for 54 days. It is impressive that the background of this book is beautiful and magnificent nature, and the author described the psychological changes of a character very well. The boy named Brian Robenson, was the only passenger on a small plane toward the oil fields Canada. A few days ago, his parents got divorced, so he must spend his summer vacation with his father. Unfortunately, the pilot of a small plane suddenly suffered heart attack and died. Brian was afraid of death but he landed at the lake looks like L. He could die but his windbreaker saved his life. He was exhausted because
‘The windsurfer belongs to my buddy. It’s my first time. I don’t know how.’ His voice trembles. Is it from the cold?” (Spring, 2) “I reach into the cockpit and take out a rope. ‘Hold on.’ I toss the rope. He misses. I throw it again and he catches it.” (Spring, 2). Teresa is faced with a hard choice, but she does the right thing by helping the boy, even when it will
One day the tornado occurred and hit a plane’s tail brought near the L-shaped lake. Brian made raft and tried to search the inside of the tail and he drops the hatchet. The hatchet is very precious to him. Brian’s mother gave the hatchet to him for a present. He dived to get it. Also, in the tail of plane, there were stuffs used for emergency. In there, there were lots of stuff but the most tool that helped Brian was the transmitter. First, he tried to make it work but it did not work well. He thought it was broken and threw it away. Somehow another plane passing by heard the signal and he got
Reading is not one of my favorite things to do, but every once in awhile I get a book I like. One of my favorite books I have read is book called “Prisoner B-3080” By Alan Gratz. It was one of few books I that I just wanted to keep reading. The book was about a boy named Yanek, he was a Jewish boy that lived in Poland during the holocaust.
The story begins when the plane fell from virtue. While Brian Robeson, thirteen years old, is going to his father who divorced with his mother, The pilot in the plane died by a heart attack. Despite, he tried to put down the plane instead of the pilot, the plane made a emergency landing at one lake, located in the forest.
The book Hatchet by Gary Paulsen and the article “Juvenile Justice Program Teaches Boy's Life Lessons and Accountability” by Dallas Morning News share a common theme of positive thinking, initiation into manhood and man vs. nature. The theme I am focusing on is positive thinking. In paulsen’s book “Hatchet,” Brian has to have positive thoughts to keep his hope that someone will rescue him. In the article by Dallas Morning News “Juvenile Justice Program Teaches Boy's Life Lessons and Accountability,” George Ashford is the judge of a court called the DMC (Diversion Male Court). He helps kids, who have done bad cramps, change their ways into good with positive thinking.
Throughout history, the circumstances that people were born into were not equal. While some people were born on hospitable lands where people and animals could flourish, others were born on desolate and isolated lands that proved unsuitable for livestock. These uncontrollable circumstances as well as others, such as climate, created the different types of lifestyles that people have adopted. Through the book Guns, Germs, and Steel, Jared Diamond illustrates the five themes of world history by explaining how a chain of effects starting from the first people interacting with their given environments and resources led to how they live in the present. While for the world it may seem apparent that one group of people seems to have the upper hand in the social hierarchy, Diamond shows his view that, in actuality, it only became this way because of the conditions that different groups of people had to cope with in the past.
Jared Diamond is a Geography professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. He has many fields of interest ranging from physiology to evolutionary biology and biogeography . Adding to that, Diamond also has published countless articles and authored multiple books. His most decorated book “Guns, Germs, and Steel”, won the Pulitzer Prize in 1998 and is widely regarded as a groundbreaking scientific work.
After reading The Dangerous Game excerpt in the textbook and viewing the motion picture of the story, I came to the conclusion that the story is better than the movie. I say this because the book version of the story did a great job at build up suspense and not straying from the plot of the story. The author, Richard Connell, used vivid wording throughout the story to describe moments that would have been plainly imagined in a reader’s head. For example, instead of saying Rainsford fell off his yacht, the story says, “… he had reached too far and lost his balance. The cry was pinched of was pinched off short as the blood-warm waters of the Caribbean sea closed over his head.” Descriptions like the previous statement allow the readers to come
Global civilization is a phenomenon that is complex. Various civilizations experienced different effects with regard to development. Food production, poverty, economic, and technological advancements are all related to how each society was civilized. This paper responds to the questions raised from the books “Guns, Germs, and Steel” by Jared Diamond; “The Origins of the Modern World: A Global and Ecological Narrative from the Fifteenth to the 21st Century” by Robert Marks; “A History of the World in Six Glasses,” by Tom Standage; and the “Stuffed and Starved: The Hidden Battle for the World Food System” by Raj Patel.
For summer reading, I read Hatchet, by Gary Paulsen, and Eragon, by Christopher Paolini. I chose to do this report about Hatchet, because I felt that it had more impact on me as I was reading it. I also like reading survival themed novels. Hatchet is a story about survival. 13 year old Brian Robson, a city boy, gets his whole life turned around when a plane that he is flying in crashes, leaving him stranded in the harsh Alaskan wilderness, with nothing but a hatchet to aid him in his quest for survival.
The novel mostly covers the story of the group of boys and their experiences during their time stranded on the island. The novel mostly focuses on the main character
the book i chose is called Daniel's Story. The book starts off telling about a boy named daniel. He is a 14 year old boy who lives in Germany. But he and his family are forced to leave Germany because they are Jewish a and in Germany Jews are no longer allowed to live there. Danial explain how confused he was the first time he saw the word “jew”. He wondered why it was a “bad” word. He said “ It was just a different religion why should it matter. His uncle had been fired from his job at a public school and was forced to teach at a public school just for jews. All because of Hitler. Daniels other Uncle wanted Daniel and his Family to come and live in the US with him. But Daniel's parents didn't want to leave their home in Frankfort Germany.
It was a very dark and snowy night in Hampton, New York as Brian Robeson steps out of the car driven by his mother. He looks at the small airport and heads over to meet the plane he would be flying in. It was a small bush plane in which Brian would be flying in. The pilot told him to get in the copilots seat, but before he could get in his mother said” I got something for you, for the trip”. Brian opened up the top of the sack and pulled out a hatchet with a rubber handgrip and steel handle. He gets in the plane and they take off and the pilot starts asking him questions. The pilot says” Why are you going to Canada for”? Brian replied” To visit my father”. After that all conversation stopped and Brian started to think about “ The Secret”.
Neither Obiareus nor the pilot knew what was to come on this trek. The only thoughts in their mind were to get to their destination. They never thought anything out of the ordinary would happen. Careless to the thought of something bad happening, Obiareus stared out his window and enjoyed himself as he hovered thousands of feet in the air. "It's beautiful, isn't it?" the pilot exclaimed, nearly giving the young boy a heart attack. "Yes. Yes it is." Obiareus said in response. Not long after, he began to notice some dark clouds lingering in the air. He didn't think much of them. In fact, he more or less disregarded them and continued to stare out at the world beneath him. But as the pilot began to direct them into the clouds, he knew that something bad was in the near future. He told Obiareus to buckle up. "We're about to go for the ride of our lives son!" He told him. Obiareus looked terrified. The pilot directed them into the storm and it seemed as if they were going to be okay until one very large gust of wind hit them and the planes left wing was torn apart. The plane started to go down and the pilot tried to direct the falling piece of what now looked like a torn apart sheet of metal to a nearby island that they could see in the distance. The island was called Grace Bay Island. At the worst time possible, the plane swayed and crashed full force into the ground. Obiareus was stunned and in shock, but he quickly came to his senses and was determined to get to his father. He unbuckled his seatbelt and crawled out of the seat. The boy knew the pilot was still in the plane and made his way to the cabin of it to see if the pilot was injured. When he reached the door to the cabin he peeked in. The man didn't seem to be breathing. Obiareus was scared and left in a hurry. He opened the door to the plane with a quiet grunt and exited the fuselage. He looked around the
The boys, their parents had a great time in the morning. At twelve )’ o'clock they stopped at a sandy cove to eat lunch. After lunch the boys decided to both jump into the water, they found out it's ice cold. After lying in the warm sand to warm up they continued their river rafting down the river.
