Should it be required that all students leaving high school be able to read and write cursive? This is an ongoing debate in the educational world and will probably continue to be for many years. There has been much research done on each side. Yet, the correct answer is already clear. Knowing how to read and write cursive should not be a requirement for exiting students. Now, some people may say that this is questionable and that they doubt it. However, once they understand the facts they will choose the right side. Some take the side that we need to continue to teach cursive. These people have even come up with some quite compelling augments. Including the claim that cursive helps simulate and develop the brain. Plus, the fact that without it students will not be able to read historical documents. If they can't do this then some of wonderful past will get lost. Some even go as far as saying that the students that wrote their S.A.T. essays in cursive received a higher score on them than those who wrote them in print. Even if cursive somehow manages to simulate the brain, it is not as glorious as it may sound. Since there are also many other activities that do so too such as meditation or Sudoku. Although students may need to know how to read cursive to read historical documents, they don't need to know how to write it. While learning how to write in cursive can take months to master, it only takes around an hour to learn how to read it as long as the student knows how to read.
