My Theme Essay
Have you ever gone along with something just because you want to seem brave? Well Marcus has. He thought that in order to get his father to like him he had to do things that he hated. The story is about a young boy who finds a sick, dying kitten in the alley. He wants it to be his pet, but his brother says no and kills it. Marcus is scared that if he cries than his family will not like him. I think this story does a very good job showing us that you have to not be afraid to make your own choices. The theme of don’t be afraid to make your own choices shows up in the beginning of the story. For example, the author states that Marcus only plays with the kids on his street because they live bear him not because they are nice
Conversely, the Professor lives the life he wanted. As a child, he had to make a choice, stay in the world of the sea or leave for the world of the book. He made his decision and went to work as a professor at a “great Midwestern University”. He was given the opportunity to choose his own path, and to shape his life into the one that he wants.
Themes: activities that young men encounter, the bond between a father and his son, an American imagination; these themes don’t really relate to me because i don’t feel like i have a connection with society telling me to be “reckless.”
People read countless stories that have a variety of themes in them. When people read “Angela's Ashes” by Frank McCourt, and “The Street” by Ann Petry, they can probably sense that there is something similar among the two stories', and that's because they share a common theme. The theme is how people can persevere through problems that they encounter. The reader will discover this similar theme of persevering through problems with the way the authors utilize the character of characters feelings and personality, the way setting creates a backdrop that establishes the tone of the story, and events that cause conflict to the character.
In Edith Wharton's novel, the theme was mostly based on Fate vs. freewill. The character's actions
During this project, my class and I learned many examples of choices and consequences made by people throughout every day life. One specific character in the book, Erik Fisher, made choices that not only affected himself, but everyone around him negatively. Fortunately enough, as bad as these choices were; they did cause a few good outcomes.
The Theme I will be exploring in this play will be family. In this play you come across many scenes that are more focused on the family getting together and being
Seventh Grade features a boy named Victor who tries to get his crush, Teresa, to like him by pretending to know french, when he really does not. By doing this, Victor makes a fool of himself and messes up. The theme of this story is to be yourself. This is shown in paragraph fifty when the narrator says,” He raced to metal shop. After metal shop there was biology, and after biology a long sprint to the public library, where he checked out three french books.” By trying to be someone he is not, Victor is now putting more work on himself because he has to learn French in order to tutor Teresa. On the other hand, in The Cat Who Thought, Jan Skiba purchases a mirror for his daughters which causes them to obsess over their flaws and begin to dislike themselves for it. The theme of this story is the inside matters, the outside does not. According to paragraph six, the narrator states,” A glass mirror shows only the skin of the body. The real image of a person is in his willingness to help himself and his family and, as far as possible, all those he comes in contact with. This kind of mirror reveals the very soul of the person.” The daughters got so caught up in how they look that they began to dislike themselves. So, the theme of this story is the inside matters, the outside
In “A&P”, the author John Updike utilizes symbolism, point of view, setting, and imagery to convey the message of choices and consequences in Sammy’s life. The protagonist, Sammy, makes immature decisions that he believes that’s what adults do. But what he thinks is an act of courage and chivalry doesn’t catch Queenie and her friends’ attention, but he still facing the consequences of his child-like behavior.
the characters. Wharton displays the theme throughout the story with symbols, motifs, and irony; he wants to be able to connect to the readers. The novel uses morality as a sense of principles between right and wrong. Morality seems to have its up and downs in the story, as it does in real life. The author uses this particular type of theme with characters to have a more realistic plot and to help the reader understand of what is going on in the book.
The way I interpreted the story, the themes are choices and what the consequences or advantages of those choices are. He keeps choosing to go from one job to another, and one state to another etc. and we later find out that it was either smart or dumb.
The theme of the story is to always know the truth behind your knowledge. The reason why this is the theme is because his dad gave him knowledge about the place of the gods. After his dad gave him knowledge he eventually decided to go explore this place and he found that his knowledge was the opposite from the truth. The theme is that even though you may have knowledge about what a person tells you, you should still find out the truth.
The theme that sometimes the best thing you can do definitely relates to today’s teenager. In the story, Carla says to Maddy “Everything’s a risk. Not doing anything’s a risk. It’s up to you.” This relates to teens today because a lot of times they won't do something they were really wanting to, and then they regret it later. For instance, after playing volleyball in middle school, I decided not to try out this year. After deciding not to try out, I regretted it and wished I would have played.
The common theme between the texts is mostly conveyed between “If” and the quote by Ben Carson. “If” talks about consistency; how the boy should never give up or have doubt in himself. The quote by Ben Carson talks about how facing obstacles is just a step closer to success.
I thought this part of the story made me think of several new ideas about the courage, our daily challenges and so on. In the story, Dovepaw is only an apprentice, and she is not suppose to take this challenge, but she volunteered and actually confidently said she could do this job better than any other cat. Although she was having a important test of her life, she still choose to take the time to help Icecloud. I think this not only shows that Dovepaw is helpful and confident, but also teaches us that sometimes we should not stick to ourselves’ achievement and test that others give us, and we need to find a challenge for ourselves. This may be a way for you to be
The author also shows the theme when Maddy states, “I don't know what I'm doing, only that I have to. “ This proves the theme because Maddy knows that she could possibly die if she were to runaway, but still decides to take that risk because she knows she would regret it forever if she were to pass up the opportunity.
