Hazards are anything in the workplace that can be potential sources of harm to the health and safety of an employee this can include any activity or substance that increases the chance for employee, contractor or general public injury or property damage. The case study has highlighted many hazards, not only health and safety issues to their employees but also can effect to general public area. In relation to chemicals, a hazardis a set of inherent properties of the substance, mixture, article or process that may cause adverse effects to organisms or the environment. There are two broad types of hazards associated with hazardous chemicals which may present an immediate orlong term injury or illness to people. These are: Health hazards - These are properties of a chemical that have the potential to cause adverse health effects. Exposure usually occurs through inhalation, skin contact or ingestion. Adverse health effects can be acute (short term) or chronic (long term). Typical acute health effects include headaches,nausea or vomiting and skin corrosion, while chronic health effects include asthma, dermatitis, nerve damage or cancer. Physicochemicalhazards - These are physical or chemical properties of the substance , mixture or article that pose risks to workers other than health risks, as they do not occur as a consequence of the biological interaction of the chemicalwith people. When working in a health and social environment, it is important that the surrounding nature is safe and free of any potential harm. A hazard is something that can possibly cause you this danger. Hazards range from something being misplaced to a broken object. When identifying a hazard, risk assessments would take place to find out the best and quickest solution to prevent any danger. The definition of a risk is the probability or threat of damage, injury, liability, loss, or any other negative occurrence that is caused by external or internal vulnerabilities, and that may be avoided through preemptive action.
